Kyle Johnson’s return to the Broncos only lasted five days.
Tuesday, the team waived the veteran fullback, two days after he saw some fairly substantial work at fullback and on special teams in the 37-34 loss to the Chicago Bears. Johnson saw sizable action on the Broncos’ final three series after Andre Hall finally succumbed to the high ankle sprain he suffered on the Denver’s first play from scrimmage. When Hall left, Cecil Sapp moved to running back, placing Johnson back on the field at his customary position.
Concurrent with the waiving of Johnson, the Broncos re-signed offensive lineman Isaac Snell, whom the club had waived on Thanksgiving to make room for the five-year veteran fullback.
Snell first joined the team off the Titans’ practice squad on Oct. 10, but has yet to see game-time action.

ring-around-the-rosies . . . .
Surely there’s someone on the 53 man roster than can be released permanently so we don’t get this stuff anymore. How about the Sauerbrun . . . . just kidding, it wasn’t ALL his fault.
Bummer to see Johnson leaving again, I really liked him. They should use him in the redzone.
Thanks for the info Andrew, any word on Henry yet?
Is Hackney still on the roster?
No word on Henry yet … and Hackney is still on the 53-man roster.
I understand the question at the QB position earlier in the season, but not anymore. I think Jay has more than proven his durability this year. Now our backs and line are not all that stable at this time so why get rid of one? I like Hackney, and think he has talent/promise for his size but our need for him isn’t as high as our need for someone like Kyle.
Man, I love Kyle Johnson. I am really annoyed to see him go again… Especially considering that the Broncos might have to literally pick a guy off the street to be our RB this week. I don’t really get it. But then again, I’m not a coach, and I don’t have access to the NFL gamefilm, so maybe Johnson looked really bad on Sunday to the trained eye. To me he looked fine. On another topic, I really with the NFL would just announce about Henry already. Good or bad, I don’t even care anymore, I just want to know.
Is snell good
Weird. A shame about Johnson…I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back on the team within the next five weeks though.
It just shows how fickle a place in the nfl is really, there one minute, gone the next…
jeesh, this is getting ridiculous. Release a guy, sign a guy only to release him again. Get embarrassed by San Diego, win against Pittsburgh, only to get embarrassed again in Chicago!? Come on Shanny, you’re a better coach than that.
Kyle is stand up person, player, and teammate. The guy averaged over 5.9yrds per carry last year and we don’t need him!? We’ve needed him back the whole season and never more than now. Maybe tomorrow when we find out about Henry you’ll be calling him up again. Wouldn’t surprise me ….
I think we need Kyle Johnson more than we need a practice squad lineman. Johnson has been a Bronco fixture since Howard Griffith left the team, meaning he brings experience and leadership and with technically a rookie QB, we need that leadership (Jay is doing a great job though). I am also disappointed that Sauerbrun is even a Bronco at all, I believe Paul Ernster outplayed him this pre-season. I think that Sauerbrun is only here because of his ties to the Special Teams coach, since he worked with him in Carolina, where I am obligated to remind you that he was kicked off the team, call me crazy but I smell a pattern. Ernster was not only a great punter, he was a kicker at NAU, lets face it, Elam has made some great kicks this year but missed some chip shots and is no spring chicken. Having an Ernster, who can pull double duty should Elam get hurt, is just an efficiency plus (think QB/WR Wallace in Seattle). Finally, will someone sit down with Mike Bell and build his confidence back up? He was looking more like Tatum when he fumbled and in no way should he be wearing the number 30 if he is going to do that! Here, I’ll just do it myself, Mike, you’re a great player; I know you wanted to showcase yourself since you got a carry but lock up the ROCK! I applaud your selfless move to Fullback but the next you get the ball, be Arizona and view those other guys as Oregon!!!!! Oh and Travis Henry, will someone ship him to Chokeland for Lamont Jordan and Dominic Rhodes before he pops out another kid? He’s going to have way too much time on his hands and since he knew about the test months in advance and still screwed it up, Choketown is his best option because those fans have real short memories, and you’d have to with that many #1 picks coming in the near future!
I agree completely on Johnson. He has been too good to this organization to be treated like this, and he would bring much needed leadership and stability if he were actually brought back for good. Moves like this will cause other veterans to think twice about the Broncos when it comes to free agency as well, because other players will not want to be put through this kind of back and forth. And can we please quit calling Cutler a rookie?!!?! It wasn’t true in week 1, when he started his SECOND year in the organization, started his SECOND training camp, etc. If you insist on playing the “rookie as a starter” game, he has now started 16…he is not even a rookie that way now!
i guess missing that huge block that got j sacked on what would have been the game winning drive. Shanny knows best!
Yeah, because the guy who hasn’t practiced or played on the team for the last 12 weeks is the only person to miss a block on the team this year.
If we are going to cut everyone who misses a block, we are going to be left with nothing but defensive players……
You make a good point about calling him a rookie, as of now he is not a rookie anymore and you are right, who missed the block on the blocked punt?
Hey Mason….What are the Broncos red zone efficiency with Johnson v.s. without?
It seems we were way more effective with him! I can think of quite a few boot leg plays he caught or was open on.
These days the red zone is more like the dead zone. In fact I think those guys think it is the NFL’s 3point line ; )
Thanks,
Joe
GO BRONCOS!
viccity77:
Then why not cut Bly too? His stupid penalty only cost us the game. Or maybe Champ can go too, because his man caught the last TD? pff…
The ST Coach missed the block on the blocked punt. We wasted a TO because their screwy formation spooked us. In reality it shouldnt have mattered as we should have been punting out of bounds anyway. Then after the TO nobody notices that Tillman is lined up with nobody on him. Take a delay if you have to! Sheesh!
Another week wasting TO’s trying to get personnel right or calm guys down. Seems like that should have been done in the preseason.
The wasted timeouts are becuse our coaching staff is clueless. We lost to a crappy team with no offense. I do not even want to know what San Diego is going to do to us?
We have one fullback, ONE, and don’t bring up Mike Bell because I think we all know he won’t see the field again. Seriously, if he’s THAT MUCH of a liability CUT HIM and bring in someone that can PLAY! It’s not as if the rest of the NFL is just waiting to snatch the guy up!
Shanny had better pray to god that nobody gets hurt in the next game.
Kyle, Kyle, Kyle, we need you. Henry is a pot smoking liar who has trouble leaving his winky in his pants. Bell, well he not that impressive, he makes a big run and showboats with a goofy wiggle and the new guy Young hasn’t proven anything yet, Not to say he isn’t going to be good. Afeterall he a rookie thrust into a starting job. Cecil the deisel is to slow. Kyle has at least proved he is durable. He may not be a running back but he make a good fullback that our joke of a backfield needs desperately.
Henry the bust anyone?
man what a revolving door policy we have here, no wonder its hard to be consistent week to week.
