Go Broncos.
We had a pretty good game. It was impressive. I’m very proud of the entire team — offense, defense, special teams. Everybody stepped up and played probably the best game we’ve had all season.
I think the character of this team has been a theme throughout the season. It’s been tested often and I think we continue to show a lot of positive signs in spite of our record. I think lesser men or lesser teams probably would’ve folded and not given as great an effort as we did given our current situation. I’m still proud of this team and proud of the guys on this team and especially what we accomplished this past weekend.
It was a big win. Something to be proud of. I have to be honest, though, I’m a little disappointed in the one scoring drive they did have. They converted three fourth-downs. That’s unacceptable. We could’ve had a shutout which would’ve been really great. Those are hard to come by in this league. They converted three fourth-downs which just should never happen. But as for the rest of the game, they had 129 yards of total offense, so we can be proud of that, but we definitely need to work on getting them off the field on fourth down.
I have another busy week. It’s a short week because we’re going into a Thursday game and we don’t have a day off this week. Just come right back in on Monday and we have a regular workday Monday that’s primarily focused on special teams. After that I have to go do my radio show (Monday nights on 950 the Fan). From there I’m going to an awards ceremony. I’m supposed to be giving out a special Darrent Williams award to a Colorado athlete, so I have a pretty long day. A pretty full, long day. Looking forward to it.
On Tuesday I’ve got another regular workday. It’s probably full. I’m going to go down to the Boys & Girls Club. I normally do that on my day off, so I do it then. It’s not as jam-packed a day, but there’s not a day off this week. It definitely sucks that there’s no day off, but as a player, we like to play, so as soon as the games get here, the happier we are. Practice is not always fun. Practice is never fun. I think the first day of camp is fun because we’re happy to get back around each other. The rest of the practices I would not consider fun.
We have fun at practices, though, especially our DBs. We have a good time laughing and joking no matter what we’re doing while remaining focused. It’s something we’re able to do that not a lot of other teams or at least even units on this team can do is have kind of an upbeat, light demeanor with lots of laughs and joking around with each other but still stay on task and not make mistakes during practice and execute well on the weekend.
I guess I wouldn’t recommend approaching work to everybody the same way we do as DBs but it works for us. We have a good time and we always work hard and think we’re one of the more consistent groups on the team.
Let’s talk for a minute about Brandon Marshall’s touchdown celebration penalty.
The NFL acronym, people have subbed in a lot of things like Not For Long and No Fun League. I guess this would fall under the No Fun League category. I didn’t think it was a big deal. It wasn’t taunting to the other team. It definitely wasn’t premeditated and no one got hurt.
Maybe just because I’m young — I like to have a good time and I’m not an NFL purist that thinks you should just go in the end zone and turn around and go back. I think it’s fun. I think the fans enjoy it. It looked like the fans that were there getting snow thrown around them, they loved it. They had a great time. Those are the type of jovial celebrations that I think should be acceptable, but I am merely a corner/safety for the Denver Broncos.
I don’t make any decisions. I do make my opinions known at the NFL Player’s Association meetings since I’m the team’s rep, but my one opinion doesn’t mean that much. Anyway, like I said, it’s a bit over the top. Man’s just having fun with some snow.
Tony Gonzalez is a great player. Our two games we played against him this year we played really well. He’s their best player probably; especially when Larry Johnson isn’t playing, he’s the best player on their team. The fact that we played well against him each time we played him is probably part of the reason why I think we controled them defensively in both games.
So many great things happened last game it’s hard to pick one thing to talk about, but Elvis Dumervil stands out in my mind as one of the best young defensive linemen in the league. He’s one of the most consistent players on this team. He’s a standout. He’s going to be a great player, for us hopefully, for years to come.
Just the youth movement that we’re kind of going through right now with Marshall’s 1,000 receiving yards with three games to go which is impressive, and Tony Scheffler’s been stepping up lately, Elvis is really consistent, Steven Harris got some time, a lot of the other young defensive linemen got some time, a lot of the other young defensive linemen are getting some time, Hamza Abdullah stepped in and made some great plays in the first half of that game — I don’t necessarily think of myself as young, but I really am also, so I guess I’ll throw myself in the category. Karl Paymah’s made a bigger contribution than he has the other two years. Just all over the field — D.J., he’s young.
Gene is what I call D.J. I’ve got to get everybody to catch onto that one and start calling him Gene. The offensive line is just about all young first-to-third-year guys with the exception of Matt Lepsis and Montrae Holland. And Jay Cutler obviously. That’s exciting for this team to have such promising young players. It bodes well for the future and even for the present if we can all get it together and play like we did last Sunday consistently. The season is not over yet.
Going down to see Texans Head Coach Gary Kubiack and General Manager Rick Smith and a lot of other ex-Broncos is exciting. You obviously feel fondly about those guys. I was a defensive guy so I didn’t get to spend much time with Kub but he seemed like a great coach. He definitely was a good guy. We’re happy to see them doing well down there. It seems like just about any player that we release they pick up. They at least go there and visit. Most recently, Curome Cox, who was my college teammate and played here for a while, is now contributing to their team on special teams a lot. Jeb Putzier and Ron Dayne, you go down the list of all the guys that are down there now. It’s good to see guys that you know succeeding other places but there’s always a little extra something when you’re going against guys that you know personally because you don’t want to have to see them later.
It should be an intense game. It’s indoors also. Indoors in Houston should be a lot easier to deal with than outdoors in Denver right after a snow storm.
It was in the teens for a while on Sunday. It got into the 20s. That must’ve been when I started sweating. It was a pretty cold game, but if you’re playing a lot, which I do, it doesn’t bother you as much. I feel like it’s tougher on the coaches and fans — and the sideline PR guy. It gets pretty cold for those people. But we have heated benches which I’ve never seen a coach or a sideline PR guy sit on. They don’t get all the luxuries that we get. Just being active helps out a lot.
Someone asked me about the sprints I did before a few plays. I was just showing off how fast I am. No, it was just to stay warm. When you take a little while, especially in that weather, you’ve just got to stay warm, so you take a couple sprints to make sure. It’s important to stay loose and stay warm in those kind of conditions, because not only will you not perform as well as you can, you’re more prone to injury I feel like in those conditions than in ideal 60- and 70-degree temperatures.
Those extremes are tough to deal with. Really hot and really cold. Anyway.
I decided that the 10 grand that I got for the Walter Payton nomination that I would put it toward the Darrent Williams Teen Center. I guess it’s not much of a surprise. Probably most people expected that I would do that. The expenses go up. We set what we thought we would need. We set a price or a level we needed to raise to get the teen center up and going, but expenses keep going up. It’s one of those things that it just keeps growing.
I think $10,000 is a healthy sum that will put a dent in our new expenses and that’s something that I think about at least every day. I’m really excited about it. With Christmas and New Year’s approaching, New Year’s being the time that Darrent died, I think about it just about every day. When we get the center opened in March, I cannot wait. I’m looking forward to being there seeing somebody cut the ribbon.
Maybe Darrent’s mom can fly out for that. I’m sure she will. Anyway, I look forward to that and we will leave it at that note.
All ready!

You guys played so good on Sunday I was so happy yoy beat the Chiefs
because I am surrounded by them at work since I live in Hutchinson Ks
coming into work on Monday was sweet!!!!!!
Everyone on the team should be so proud of the way they played.I am
looking forward to the game on Thursday nite it should be good.
I just want to tell you I think it is nice that you do all you do in the

4 ever Bronco fan in Kansas
I am so happy man. You laid Tony out man. WOW he didn’t feel you comin you were as sly as a “Fox” but hit like a TRUCK !! haha. We have a very young and talented team and we can only get better. I love celebrations after TDs. I can’t stand these dumb penalties…yup the No Fun League. That is very cool that you are giving that money to the Darrent Williams Teen Center. If D-Will’s mom can’t fly out you should do it. It was in the 20′s/30′s over here in Little Rhode Island on Sunday. The snow melted and it was all muddy in our field it is a baseball field but we play on the curve in the outfield it is really fun. It is a big park and it is named after my Uncle Anthony J. Sivo he was killed in Vietnam. So it’s like my home field “Sivo Park”…we played for a couple of hours I was slippin and slidin all over the place pretty much everyone was it was hillarious. I pulled a prime time after my pick then the 1-2-3 like Champ after that I point to the sky for D-Will. That is my trade mark with my friends lol.I can’t wait for thursday. I am still upset that Kubiak and Cox aren’t here but what can we do. Lets go out and beat those Texans !!
All Ready !!
Dom,
What a dominate performance! Well done.
Talking about young guys, Brandon Marshall has certainly stepped his game up tremendously. Could you perhaps elaborate on what its like to see someone like B-Marsh step his game up throughout the season? Since you are on the other side of the ball, it’d be interesting to understand your perspective.
Also, great playing out there yourself. Seems like the defense is really starting to mesh and allowing players like yourself to make some big plays. I hope to see you and the rest of the young talent in Bronco uniforms for a long time.
God Bless
Hello Foxy D,
That was the best game you guys have played all season and it was so much fun to watch and very impressive. You guys took complete control of that game, and I do agree that we never should have let the Chiefs get that 7 points but at least you guys on defense came out and did your jobs. You held them at 7 lousy points, which makes for a pretty good defense there in Denver. Keep up the GREAT work and we can win the rest of our games… we have to, end of story.
All the young guys were a blast to watch, watching them work their magic at such young ages but so full of promise, potential and VERY bright futures with this team. You made me a very proud and happy Broncos fan on Sunday. Thank you!! You guys in all areas of the team need to stay consistent with how you guys played on Sunday, do that and we’ll be a force not to be reckoned with.
I’m glad to hear about your personal donation to D-Will’s foundation… I know there’s no where else you would rather give that money to. I can’t believe its almost been 1 year, its sad that he hasn’t been with us, may he Rest In Peace. That would be real cool though if his mom could cut the ribbon for the opening of the center… and since you were such close friends with him, I personally think you should cut the ribbon with her. It would only seem right, his mom and best friend, can’t really imagine anyone else. Time sure does fly by with these kind of situations but for his sake and Damien’s we need to win all of our remaining games and at least get into the playoffs… of course I want to go all the way but I know we’d have to face New England if we want to get anywhere near the Superbowl.
I honestly think next year will be our year, after we started this season off kind of sloppy I got to thinking that next season will have the Denver Broncos written all over it. Someone needs to steal the Patriots thunder and who better to do that than us!!! RIP: #27, #29 & #21
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!1
Great game on Sunday Fox!
Everyone played great and it was fun to see everything finally come together.
I agree with you on Marshalls celebration. He was having fun and it was no knock on the other team. Just a great player having a great time.
Thank you to your contributions to the DW teen center. I’m sure the kids appreciate what you do there. You’ve been nothing but a great contribution to the team and I hope to see you in orange and blue for a long time.
Congrats on your win. Ice cold orange crush sure tastes good! Keep up all of your good works in the community and you will go far. Even after your playing days are over. I know you get playing tips from all of us “fanatics”, but maybe you could give one to your teammate ‘Dre Bly… learn how to tackle! Go Broncos! All Ready!
Great game Fox!
I’ve been waiting for that game all year long. Compliments to the defense and the big ST tackles.
You said you are the Broncos rep for the player’s association. Maybe you could suggest that the prop rule be changed to apply only to props, or foreign objects, that are brought onto the field. That way the ball and any snow wouldn’t be considered foreign props.
While I don’t like a lot of the celebrations by Chad Johnson and TO because they’re done for the sole purpose of showing off, I LOVED Marshall’s celebration because you could tell it was just pure emotion and excitement, no bragging or showing off.
We’re working on a new nickname for Brandon in the forums because he has outgrown the baby TO name. So we’re thinking the “Snowbeast” is a good one.
Anyway, don’t want to make this too long. Again congradulations and well done.
Ok…Good game! There you go…I said it!!!! It was a good game to watch, and WOW did we fans need it! It’s been tough to endure at times, but when you watch these young guys step up with the energy and sense of purpose, it makes you feel good about days to come.
I’ve wondered why Steven Harris never got called up. Its ironic that now that Sam Adams is gone, the team looked like a defense that saw the gaps, hit the gaps, and many times ran through the gaps stopping the RB for a loss of yards. Could it be possible that either our scheme, Sam Adams or both are the reason. I guess we’ll find out Thursday Night. But man, if we can repeat Sunday’s performance, it really gives optimism about the future, but still questions about what’s different now, than before? Im very curious…but HAPPY.
I wish Foxworth would comment about our Dre Bly…Does he not know how to tackle, or is he afraid to stick his helmet in there and bust some chops…Being around Lynch and other hard hitting players, you’d think it would become obvious…oh well….
Fight on Donks! We’re behind you!
That was a great performance on Sunday. I’m ecstatic that I’ll be going to see y’all on Thursday – still in the thick of the playoff race. I’ve been impressed with Dumervil this season. I hope he has another wild night against the Texans.
And hopefully the offense keeps chugging along the ground. I don’t care what people say about the system – Shanahan consistently finds some really talented backs.
Mile High Salute, Broncos! Take the win down in Houston!
i dont see why every one is knockin dre for “not tackling” the guy can stand pain did any 1 notice him jack up his shoulder on a pic and he kept playin? good game fox hope you guys can keep it up the next few games and give us something to root for in january
Thanks for a wonderful game this past Sunday. It was great seeing ya’ll have such a good time out on the field. It seemed the defense was feeding off the offense.
Even special teams had some great tackles!
So DJ is Gene, huh? That’s a good name for him :O)
As one other poster mentioned here, the folks on the boards are trying to come up with a name for Brandon Marshall. What do you guys call him?
For that matter, I would love to see a list of the names that ya’ll call each other. Nicknames. We fans just eat that kind of thing up!
For instance…what nickname is yours?
Take care, and say “hi” to Kubiak from all his fans up here in Broncos Country. I remember him playing backup to John Elway, and he coached here for a really long time. I am glad he is making his own name.
Win this weekend and let the comback continue!
Go Broncos!
So Fox,
I saw that 1st down catch on you, but it seems like you played really well minus that play. I think Champ was trying to help you out on that play… The Camera man was just in a really bad angle for you. Anyways I am looking forward to your pick on thursday… Just a feeling I have.
Dom!
Nice game last Sunday!
I also noticed the salutes are back! That’s awesome!
Let’s try to blowout all three of our remaining games! truely make a statement, make the playoffs, face the Patroits (still undefeated) and hand them their first loss kicking them out of the playoffs and giving them nightmares that will last a lifetime!!!
Now that would be something!
I know, a little far fetched!
One game at a time……. let’s go out and beat the Texans first!
All Ready!
good game…more like AMAZING game!!!
i think you should get to cut the ribbon at the teen center! that would be pretty cool!!!!!!!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-PARIS(#1 BRONCO FAN!!!!!!!!!!)
Foxy,
You guys played great on Sunday. Oh and I absolutley loved B. Marsh’s celebration, I mean all the guys are making these TD’s and their making it rain but B. Marsh is a step ahead and he is making it snow! Haha. Just one thing, why didnt you mention NFL 201? Were we not interesting enough? Just playin with you. It was really fun and you were hilarious I really couldnt stop laughing, you are the Sexy Safety haha.
You are just showing why you were nominated Walter Payton Man of the Year! Donating $10,000 for the Darrent Williams teen center is fantastic! I cant wait for it to open!
Love ya,
Ashley
Hey Foxy,
I usually read the blog every week but I got behind a couple weeks
Anyway, I just caught up and they are amazing as usual.
The KC game was sooo cold! I made it to half time then I went up to a friends suite. I couldnt take it anymore BUT I would’ve stayed out there til the end if I had to!
Oh and I did somethng I thought I’d never do….I went to the Bronco/Raider game in Oakland! I always said I wouldn’t do it but hey, you only live once. It was an expierience, not so much an enjoyable one, but at least I can say I did it.
Well, just wanted to say good luck Thursday.
Fox, Nice game on the weekend, but you know that!
Brandon Marshall gets penalised for SNOW, but a few weeks ago Larry Johnson grabs a KC flag waves it and plants it in the endzone and that’s ok??? The NFL needs to be consistent if they want to enforce those things, it’s crap!
Sure our team has had a few ups and downs this year, but all I want for CHRISTMAS is – a Denver at San Diego game for the AFC West title!!! To me, the result isn’t as important as seeing a “knock down/drag em out” WAR on Monday Night Football!
I actually think SanD has better talent (this year) than our team, with LaDanian running the ball, but I want to see my team “take it to them”! If we do that I think we can win, considering San Diegos lack of leadership, Norv’s head “skills” and our underdog status!
But alas, this week – we need to Kick Kubes and Detroit needs to ROCK San-D!!
GO BRONCOS!!!
AWESOME GAME THIS PAST SUNDAY!!!!
LOVE MY BOYZ!!!!! SEE YA’LL IN HOUSTON THURSDAY! I’LL BE IN THE STANDS WATCHING , SCREAMING , AND CHEERING YA’LL ON AS YA’LL BEAT THE TEXANS!!!!
SWEET!!!!!!!
GO BRONCOS!
JENN
Hey Fox,
Great game!
You guys played really well. You looked so well put together and I was so proud. Selvin was awesome. Special Teams was on point. The defense was clicking…Beautiful. Just beautiful.
And Elvis? That dude is sick. I am so happy he is a part of our defense.
Shout out to my brother, the Kappa man, Brandon Marshall!!! I didn’t know he was representin’ the crimson and white! Loved the end zone celebration, Marsh.
Fox, best of luck to you guys in Texas. Looking forward to a win…
All Ready!!!
~ChocolateQT
Thanks for the solid performance Fox. I’m so proud of you guys and although the Chiefs game didn’t air in Utah (we had Pats-Steelers on instead), I still followed the game via the nfl.com game tracker. 129 yards of total offense surrendered is something to treasure, but we’ve got to focus on beating the Texans this Thursday and keeping playoff hopes alive. It will be on in Utah (for those of us who get NFL Network anyway, I’m glad I do!!!) so put on a good show and as usual, make us proud.
Fox,
Speaking of Elvis, I know on Monday’s you watch the game film from Sunday. Do you guys count how many times Elvis get held during the game? I watch the guy get mugged on most passing plays with no call, most of the time the tackle is holding his helmet like a bowel of popcorn. I know that it must be a little frustrating to him, but he seems to be a real classy guy and doesn’t really say anything( NOt like it would matter, he would only get fined).
Dom I love you man
Dom I love you man.
Wow! That game was awesome! Your hit on Tony Gonzalez was top notch. Way to be. Sunday’s game was thoroughly enjoyable. The Texans have become my 2nd favorite team…for some pretty obvious reasons. Take care of yourself on these couple of days in between games. I’ve had Thursday’s game marked on my calendar since the schedule was released.
B Marsh’s celebration was great. Very creative. He didn’t go over the top with it either. Some players become obnoxious and sometimes they are too enthralled with their own accomplishment vs the team TD. Let Brandon know that the fans really enjoyed that one. Btw I’d like to see a resurgance on the Mile High Salute. Maybe Brandon can pull that one out tomorrow.
Take care! Hold on to that momentum for tomorrow!!
You are a stand up guy and a great player on and off the field! I didn’t know the guys you lost but I miss them too and best wishes to you and thier families!
Elvis is in the house every week and I was happy to see him recognized this week, finally! The defense played spectacular this week, been waiting to see that all year! What do you think the difference was compared to weeks prior? Guys were flying to the ball, tackling, and getting penetration. The offense definitely made it easier for you guys to play the type of game that fits the players as Elvis said.
Special teams was amazing! I was at the game and instead of holding my breath waiting for the worst, I got to cheer at plays made by Paul Smith, Taylor Jacobs, Winborn and others. It’s also good to see that you mention Paymah who has been playing well on Defense and on Special teams.
Haven’t been happy with ref’s calls all year (not just in Bronco games) so the B-Marsh penalty was no different. Let the guys decide the games and have a little fun!
There are a lot of “Young” players and it’s exciting to see them doing so well so quickly! Any other week I would root for Kubiak, But not this week.
Go Broncos!
D-Fox,
Nice game this past week. I think you got alot of upside as player and I am looking forward to seeing you play in the years to come.
But I do have to say that your off the field character is what seperates you from alot of players in the league. I spent the past 6 years in the Marines, so I know what it’s like to be looked upon to make the right choices. Your involvement with the D-will youth center and with your messages on T.V. to go to college shows that you are embracing the fact that you are a role model. I’ve never met you, but I know the Denver community appreciates that.
Nice hit on Tony Gonzales! Keep up the good work!
P.S. Stop Picking on Mike Bell…LOL (AM 950)
Great game! Go Broncos!
Yeah, keep it up. I have been a little weary of Denver this entire year, being that it seems they lack something very, very important: Consistency. But I still believe the next three are winnable. But they have to play all four quarters. Not just two or three! And they have to play like they did against KC. There is no way, otherwise, that the playoffs are possible. However, if they do play well, like they have proven they can, and they do play all four quarters of the game, then they will probably win. If they are going to have a prayer against teams like the Colts or the Patriots then they are going to have to play everyone the same. Not just when it counts. They have to be consistent, play four quarters, and play every game like they did KC. That’s it. I do still believe, but one loss, and it’s over.
You guys were just so awesome on Sunday, that’s what I like to see. It was tough seeing you guys struggle, but you stepped up and did well against the Chiefs. by the way, that was a massive hit on…dang i can’t remember who it was a this point, but yeah you hit him and the ball popped out of his hands and i think you guys recovered it. it was SWEET!!
but anyway so yeah you guys were really awesome and like you said your team is young and you’ve got so much talent that you guys are going to be amazing for a long time to come. I wish you guys luck tomorrow and I’ll be watching and cheering for you, hopefully you can hear me from my little corner of New Mexico! Take care!
~steph~
By the way, I hear you like youtube videos, don’t we all!
Here is a season highlight of the Oakland Raiders, it’s been cheering me up for WEEKS, I watch it normall just before I start work just, so I KNOW – things could ALWAYS be worse!

Enjoy!
Foxy,
I agree with all the people on here who want to resirect the Mile High Salute! I would love to see it make a comeback!

Well Fox,
It was nice having you as a Denver Bronco… Something tells me other teams are going to be able to pay you mare than we can.
