I Promise You, This Is Worth the Listen

September 1st, 2007 - 4:13pm by Andrew

If you appreciate the biggest upset in major-college sports since Chaminade’s Christmas Eve 1982 basketball stunner over Virginia, or you just want to hear broadcasters flip out on the air, listen to the Appalachian State call of the last-second blocked field goal that preserved their 34-32 win at Michigan.

Instructions:

1. Click here for the mp3 file.

2. When you load the audio, scroll to the 4:40 mark. The high point will come at 4:52.

3. Turn down the volume if you’re at work or in a place where silence is expected. If not, you might be arrested for violation of about six noise ordinances.

The sound is from Appalachian State’s official athletics Web site, at goASU.com, where, of course, they have more on the game.

And as far as the Broncos go — well, as soon as the cuts are announced, we’ll have them here. Until next time, vaya con Dios.

Every analyst on the air waves was contemplating what the head coaches job stability would look like if the Wolverines lost to Ohio State again this year. I guess that conversation can begin now thanks to Appalachian State.

    Great upset ASU!

There was a brief moment when I thought something similar could happen in the WKU-Florida game. But, the Hilltoppers went for it on fourth down instead of kicking the field goal on the opening drive. It’s too bad. If they would have went up 3-0 I could have heard one of the Dave’s on Lincoln Financial say: “We’ve got an upset in the making!” Sad, really.
