Henry Sits Out; Bailey Limited

October 24th, 2007 - 5:02pm by Andrew

Post-practice update:

Running back Travis Henry did not take part in Wednesday’s session because of bruised ribs. “Travis is a little sore right now,” Head Coach Mike Shanahan said.

Cornerback Champ Bailey was in uniform Wednesday, but his participation was limited. Bailey sat out last Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh and missed all of the practices on the Wednesday and Thursday leading up to the game and was limited on Friday.

Fellow cornerback Dre’ Bly, however, took part in the full day’s work.

“For the most part, I’m fine. I’m rehabbing it, and I’ll be fine for Monday night,” he said.

Bly said his rehabilitation work entails “just doing flexibility movements and continuing to ice it and doing stretches and stuff like that. For the most part, it’s just keeping it protected until the game. I can’t afford to fall on it or anything like that. (I’ll) keep it secure throughout the week and then play football on Monday.”

Tight end Tony Scheffler, who hobbled off the field with a lower leg injury Sunday night, also fully participated in the practice Wednesday. The same was true for safety Hamza Abdullah, who has been sidelined for over a month with a hip injury.

Defensive tackle Sam Adams, as is custom, did not take part in the Wednesday session.

The exact status for each player — probable, questionable, doubtful or out — will be determined after Friday’s session. The Green Bay Packers did not practice Wednesday and are on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday schedule, so there’ll be no reports on the status of their players until Thursday.

DOES SAM ADAMS ALWAYS SIT OUT BECAUSE OF HIS SIZE AND THE FACT THAT HE HAS TO PRETTY MUCH JUST EAT TO STAY THE SIZE HE IS?

  2. SuperBowlBoundBroncos says:

Hey Mason do you think the Broncos will try and sign Grady Jackson who was released by the Falcons. He is a 350 pound man who can stop the run and fits Jim Bates scheme. What do you think?

  3. stand_ablaze says:

Good to hear that Bly is doing fine. Hopefully Champ and Travis will be ready to play, though.

  4. BroncosFan4Life says:

yea we need a big DL to help stop the run and will champ play on mnf we need him badly!

    GO BRONCOS

  5. broncofrick95 says:

how long does travis henry have till he is suspended????

  6. broncosfanscott says:

I hope Henry and Champ are ready to go Monday night since they will get an extra day to rest. I am glad that all the other injuries that occurred in the Steeler game are practicing.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  7. elway07 says:

I sure hope all our guys are gonna play on Monday Night… it’d be nice to have the majority of our team starters back instead of just hanging out on the sidelines in injury headquarters. And I really hope Smith comes back by the Detroit game so then he’ll have at least one game down before the KC game. Glad to see Champ practicing, come back Monday Night, please.

About ready to watch the Rockies kick some Red Sox butt!!
WOOO HOOO, this is the coolest thing. I’m beside myself.

    GO BRONCOS & ROCKIES!!!!!!!!!!

  8. PhotoHoundAK says:

That’s great that Champ might be back, and that Dre is ok. Having both of them out there with the D-Line getting good pressure will just kick butt. The young linemen are really looking good. Did Rice play in the last game? I don’t remember seeing him. Elvis is awesome. DJ had a great game; I hope he keeps it up. I’m relieved that Schef isn’t injured, he really adds a lot to the offense. The way he hopped off the field was like a punch to the gut, I thought he was going to be out for a while again. If we can just keep everyone healthy and get Javon and Rod back, things are looking pretty good.

  9. fullerdiggy says:

do you think cutler can go one game without an interception.

  10. d2soulja says:

Andrew….What are the chances of us picking up Grady Jackson?

  11. GO CUTLER says:

WAY TO GO BRONCOS KEEP HAVING FUN AND WINNING .

  12. [...] Bly and Tony Scheffler participated fully in practice Wednesday.  Travis Henry sat out, and Champ Bailey was [...]

  13. KoobLis says:

Didn’t he do that in week 1? Or did he throw one then also, the interception that is.. In any case, INT is part of learning process, People have said it and I will too; he IS still a rookie QB..

  14. LetWilsonPlay says:

Yo, guys… we scrapped Bates scheme during the bye week… See Foxsports for the article (notice how much better we did last week), so we don’t need any more big fat defensive lineman that sit out of practice because they are at risk for a heart attack. Our young D-line is starting to step it up now that they have been approved to be unleashed! As for Jay, don’t worry you’ll little heads off, his INT rate will continue to drop especially if we get Rod (I love ROD!) back on the field this week, just think in two weeks, Rod, Javon, The Brandon’s (Marshall & Stokley), Sheffler & Graham… who’s gonna cover them all? And then there is always the run game? As far as offense we can only go up from here!

  15. KoobLis says:

I don’t think rod is playing just yet, he needs 3 more weeks for practice, that’s what happens when someone makes the PUP list.

  16. Maceano says:

I want to see foxworth get another shot this week starting. I am tired of leaders on this team worrying about themselves. Champ Bailey doesnt deserve to play until he starts being a leader again and top crying about a muscle strain! I say we let foxy take the field he let the whole team in tackles last week! I mean look at Dre Bly he has a slightly Sepperated shoulder and he is still playing. It sucks to watch someone who just because they are a pro bowler for a couple years give up because the team isnt doing so well. I honestly think Champ Bailey is a QUITTER!!! Dont get me wrong he is tallented but lazy! We need people with heart to play for our D and Foxy has got heart and so does BLY! Just because you get beat 40 to 3 doesnt give you an excuse to give up. A bye week is plenty of time to heal a strain!!!

  17. scanartist says:

Bates had a system? There was something to abandon? Hmm, coulda fooled me… They did do BETTER… but obliviously they still need improvement.

Champ isn’t a quitter, they had their best game (defensively) all season and you think Champ was on the sideline not salivating to get in there and have some fun too? I would rather ANY starter sit out and get better than just “deal with it” (Bly included) that is how injuries become surgeries and then their out a whole season (Nalen).

And to those out there questioning Cutler, come on, was Elway any better his first year? For basically a rookie, he is doing quite well.

  18. Broncfalls says:

    Maceano,

I’ve addressed you before, and apparently have to do it again. Calling Bailey a quitter is like saying you know football. They don’t mix. It’s one thing to state an opinion, it’s state something completely stupid. When I read these types of things, I honestly wonder if you’re joking!

One of the best to ever play the position, probowler, 10 INT during a season when they didn’t make the playoffs, one of few that is considered a shutdown corner…ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Why not aske Bly, Lynch & Fox if they think he’s a quitter. Aaaa, yes and I forgot about your PHD you have on the human body and it’s injuries. Before you respond, we don’t want to hear about your old war stories about how you’ve had the same injuries and played football…..

My God Maceanon, we’ve already covered this….you’re flag football days are over. Remember? and I don’t remember you ever being on an NFL roster…Soooooo that pretty much makes you a turd! The only thing you said I agree with is that Fox & Bly have heart. I agree.

    Scanartist,

Great point on Cutler. I totally agree with you. HUGE shoes to fill for any QB in Denver, but on soley the arguement of “Let him learn through..” you’re dead on. There will NEVER be another Elway, but Cutler can start writing his own chapter…..

  19. ocrush4ever says:

It’s amazing that Champ can be called a quitter or lazy when he almost never misses playing time. The fact that he’s missing any time at all just proves that there really is something wrong enough to keep him from being able to perform (without exacerbating his injury). Really, that sounds like the comment of someone who knows nothing about Champ and has never watched him play. It makes no sense to me. He’s not just talented. He is a leader, and he prides himself on playing hard and contributing in every way he can. Lazy or “quitter” players aren’t typically the ones who lobby for time on the opposite side of the ball, or who willingly contribute on special teams–especially when you’re talking about a franchise player. Come on. Really.

  20. bronco_hyde says:

This isn’t a regular muscle strain like you would get carrying in the groceries from the car. This is a Quadraceps muscle strain. Very bad deal. Takes lots of time to heal.
Anyone calling Champ a quitter is an obvious bonehead with absolutely no medical/anatomical knowledge. Besides the fact that it is the coaches decision not to play him.
I suppose you think Rice is a quitter too, just because he didn’t play?? Sure he’s been complaining about how he wants to get back in there, and thinks he’s healthy. But coach doesn’t think so and won’t let him play. But apparently he’s a quitter for not playing hurt?

Please, here’s a bit of advice for Maceano, it’s better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

  21. bronco_hyde says:

If Rod Smith doesn’t play this weekend, he’s just a quitter. Come on, he’s practiced, he can run. We really need him, so if he doesn’t get 100+ yards and 2 TD’s in his first game back, before he’s 100%, after hip surgery and 10 months away from the field . . . . he’s a quitter, and should have retired.

  22. raloe1 says:

Maceano, come reall!?! Champ a quitter!? Really!? Was he a quitter while he was playing special teams as a franchise player, was he a quitter when he also played with a separated shoulder a couple seasons ago for us? Was he a quitter when he was asked to play inside to help our sad run defense a few games ago. Get your f***in facts str8? Are you a Bronco fan, really!?!

  23. raloe1 says:

bronco_hyde, now are you serious???? Or are u just poking fun? The man is old as f***! I love Rod, but I would understand if he is unable to come bk. He is a 35+ year old WR with no real speed anymore who had H-I-P surgery! I do not think it is far fetched to not see Rod again, which would be unfortunate.

  24. mkp2477 says:

Maceano, do u have clue of what u speak of? Champ a quitter? Dude 2 years ago he a 3rd degree separation of his shoulder and played the whole year!!! Know yur facts b4 u go an insult a real trooper in da NFL. We ask him to go an island with the best receivers in da league week in and week out and what does he do? Shut them all down, (except when we get no pressure and hes out there runnin with these big physical receivers all day). No, Champ is probably the best all around corner in NFL history(look at what he does week in and week out)! I hope what I saw last week is a sign of things to come, except on dat last drive when they tied up da game. We need to stop da run, and then we can beat anyone in da league!!!!

  25. raloe1 says:

well said mkp2477! I dont know what the hell is wrong with Maceano!

  26. SuperBowlBoundBroncos says:

Aw man who saw the Jhonson’s interview? You gotta check it out. Chad Jhonson and Keyshawn Jhonson battling it out during an interview. A great video!!

BTW WHOEVER SAID CHAMP IS A QUITTER OR LAZY IS A R-TARD

  27. #80fan says:

I hope bronco_hyde was being sarcastic. Rod is a leader on the team. He is a fighter and that is why he is my favorite player. If he was a quiter, then he would NOT even be in the NFL. Anyways, I the Chad and Keyshawn Johnson interview and it was very funny.

  28. LetPlummerPlay says:

Sorry guys, i always feel like the devil’s advocate nowadays. However, I’m still feeling the ill effects of Shanahan. In any event my only comment this week is to all who keep proclaiming the scrapping of Bate’s system was so wonderful.

Denver allowed 28 points in Mile High despite Ben’s interceptions and fumbles….I’d say the defense is still LAME and continue to say we need to start at the top, fire Shanahan.

  29. bronco_hyde says:

Obviously i was being sarcastic, just trying to demonstrate to Maceano what he sounds like.

  30. Broncofan1088 says:

LPP- I’m glad to see you have moved from cutler and the offense to the defense now. I guess you have to have something to complain about. Althought the defense did not play truly amaizingly, they did not have champ and they still do have rookies at starting positions. I am not sure whether this team will turn it around or not but if they can beat greenbay it will be a big step in the process of turning it around. Shanahan proved he should remain the head coach after this week, we will soon find out if he can prove it again.
P.S- What happend to thursdays update mason, you slacker!? :-P

  31. raloe1 says:

Okay, I thought so….You had me for a minute! :)

  32. raloe1 says:

Okay, I thought so….You had me for a minute!

  33. New Tune says:

what is the deal with T.Henry? When is he gonna have a brakout game? He is looking pretty average right now…….

  34. Step On Me says:

I hope Henry and Champ are able to play on Monday night. However, their health is the most important thing. We need to make sure they do not rush back because it would be better to have them for the long run! Besides, I think Selvin Young did an excellent job last Sunday taking over for Henry. Not to mention, I think Foxworth did an exellent job of takingChamp’s place. For the team members, don’t listen to these so called fans. Champ is not a quitter if he does not play this weekend. Neither is Henry or Rod. Especiall not Rod. How stupid are people? He had major surgery and he just made it back to the practice squad. I don’t exepect him to be back for at least 3 weeks. These so called fans need to realize that these players need to be healthy for the long run. It is better to make sure their injuries are completely gone before they come back. That would be better than the players coming back to early and re-injuring themselves which would cause them to be out longer. No rush guys, take care of your inujuries and come back when you are compltely better.

By the way, Mason, how is your elbow? I hope it is feeling better.

Good luck to the Broncos for Monday night. Go Broncos!!!!!!!!

  35. bronco_hyde says:

    Step on me,
Chill out man. The Rod thing was a JOKE. I was demonstrating obsurdity by being obsurd. Obviously everything I said about Rod was totally sarcastic. It was just a way of showing Maceano what he sounds like when he’s talking like that about Champ.
Please don’t lump me into a group with the so-called fans who no nothing about Broncos Football.

This is one really bad thing about blogs. You can’t hear tone or voice inflection, and we tend to read everything literally instead of in the tone it was meant.
No one in their right might would accuse Rod of being a quitter, or expect 100 yards and 2 TD out of him his first game back. Let’s all try to use our brain a bit before we take things so literally. OK?

  36. JHON BRONCO says:

CHANGE SAM ADAMS , TRADE GRADY JACKSON

  37. Maceano says:

Hey my comments about champ I guess are frustration. Its pretty funny watching some of you idiots respond though. I mean Champ Bailey is ok but I watched a TE Dallas Clark just straight out play him one on one. So you guys can get deffensive if you want. I have lived here all my life and am a huge broncos fan but I hate quitters. I honestly think Bailey thought we were gonna get crushed like we did against san diego. You know I hear people talk about how he got 10 ints last year. BUT THAT WAS LAST YEAR! We need players to play and stick through the thick and thin. Broncfalls You sound like your 12. First spell then organize. You sound like you are from Canada. HAHAHA

  38. archangel77 says:

A QUESTION FOR ALL OF THE BRONCO FANS!

I was watching the interviews on Broncos.com that Lynch, Bailey, and Moss gave on Friday and I was surprised by how down trodden they were. Do you think that this is a mind set that the Broncos players have taken to per a suggestion from the coaching staff or do you think that it has to do with something else? Normally I wouldn’t have taken much notice but the difference between this week and the norm was staggering.

As for the defense I don’t know the specifics of what was changed and I don’t much care but I saw 11 guys out there on Sunday night playing the most physical football I’ve seen them play all year and I loved it. I know that Denver has to improve it’s second half play but the first half was one of the most dominant I’ve seen any team play all year and the last four minutes of the second quarter were the best I’ve seen our defensive line play in a couple of years. This is the fire that has been missing all season and I think the Broncos will extend that play into the second half over the next few games. We, the faithful, have given it time and held the hope that things would improve and they have. The monster that a lot of us saw clawing to get out of the box is free. He may still be chained to the wall but the links are about to break and when they do Katie bar the door!
