Henry: Partial Tear of PCL; In Uniform for Practice

November 15th, 2007 - 1:42pm by Andrew

Travis Henry at Practice on Nov. 15

Saying that he had a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, running back Travis Henry prepared for practice Thursday afternoon, knowing that how he fared on the field on this day could well determine whether he could line up against the team that released him in March.

“I feel like I can play, but I’ll see what I can do today; that’s going to determine when I get back,” he said in the locker room.

A brace covered Henry’s knee, but he noted it was for practice-time use only.

“I’m not going to wear it in any games,” he said.

While Henry was in uniform and warming up for Thursday’s session, he is not expected to practice Friday. Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced at his press conference Monday that Henry’s hearing with the league will take place Friday in Phoenix.

POSTSCRIPT, 4:32 P.M. MST: Henry had limited participation in Thursday’s practice.

    I hope he makes it.

  2. anonymous says:

I hope Selvin Young starts it out the rest of the year.

  3. Donuts says:

Rest one more week Travis, but don’t smoke anything while watching the game monday. Besides it’s gonna be Lendales night anyways. WE CAN’T STOP THE RUN.

  4. Anonymous says:

why does he even bother? his career is injury-ridden….Young is outperforming him…he’s a pothead…….just give it up already…what a disgrace to the NFL.

  5. Anonymous says:

Out with the old…in with the new.

    It’s about time.

  6. O_O says:

We need Travis Henry, have you guys forgotten how he runs? He’s a powerful back that gets the Defense tired. Selvin Young had one good game and now everyone wants to crown him the second coming, give me a break.

  7. comebackkid says:

I don’t want anyone hurt, especially a Bronco but after Sunday I would rather have Selvin Young

  8. RealisticFan says:

Give T Henry a break Anonymous! People make mistakes (yes even several times) Besides, I like the idea of Selvin on 1st and 2nd and Henry on 3rd and short. As explosive as Young is he doesn’t have the power and stiff arm that Henry does. I don’t care if we split the carries some, I think that is our best bet.

  9. donuts_isanidiot says:

we have stopped the run against pitt and kc idiot.

  10. dfish001 says:

i think we should split the carries, but not 50-50, more like henry on short yardage gains, and maybe goaline, but i think young shold get most of the carries, cause henry is a washed up scrub, and O_O, sure young only strarted one game, but look at the way he runs, he runs wth heart and purpose, unlike pothead henry!

  11. shutout says:

I like Young, and although Henry has made his mistakes Henry is a more experienced hard hitting running back, splitting the carries is a good idea. I hope Henry gets to play.

  12. Anonymous says:

Henry is hurting the team. He shows no signs of explosiveness. Who cares if he can’t pick up those short yards? Any back with a big butt and horse thighs can do that, but not every back has the speed and big-play ability of Young. Henry is a proven pothead, who is lying to Coach Shanahan. He is entering his day of judgement when he meets with Goodell on Friday. I can’t wait until this piece of garbage is banned from the NFL.

  13. RealisticFan says:

    Donuts, have some faith.
Donuts_isanidiot, do you really call that stopping the run though? The steelers still got more than a hundred and we stopped an old guy from getting over 70. i don’t think I will feel better about our run d until we hold a good team to under a hundred.

  14. watchtheboard says:

are you people actually watching the games or just watching Sportcenter….Lendale has a string of 100 yard games fat or not that was just broken this week… we stopped the run TWICE in nine games…wow and in one of those games we gave up near a hundred to Priest if not for that weird play were he los like 15-20. We have not necessarily been the steel curtain. AND in that game where we held Tomilinson in check his BACK UP HAD A MONSTER NIGHT… I do think they are improving on defense, but they have yet to string games together and I do know that TN is going to pound it. And for all the pristine people in here that have never made a mistake, TRAVIS is a TESTED (no pun intended) and PROVEN back. SELVIN had a wonderful game, but mostly because of a few big runs. He would actually be a great 3rd down and change of pace back. People who make comments like that forget that Henry was leading the NFL in rushing before his injuries. You would say Jesse Chatman is better than Ronniee Brown because he is having a good stretch or maybe Turner is better than LT because he had explosive runs one game. LEARN FOOTBALL before you make comments, otherwise just enjoy the pretty colors the Broncos wear…we will 10-6 beat the Pats and play the Steelers in the AFC championship…

  15. GO CUTLER says:

i hope everything turns out ok for travis. we will find out tuesday or sooner i dont understand why he waited a week to get a mri. go broncos 1!!

  16. knuther says:

I agree with anonymous, Let Selvin play the rest of the year. I think we should cut Henry and move on. I really like what a hard nose player Selvin seems to be, and he is hungry. He does well in blitz pickups and he can catch out of the backfield. As far as run Defense I thought Dj finally got it. He was running around and really smacking people. I also thought Hamza played a strong game. KC Has a bad running attack, The Titans will test the D this week much like Jacksonville. I personnaly think we have a hard time with bigger guys so this will be a big test. I am not getting too excited yet, lets string some good games together.

    Go Broncos!

  17. RealisticFan says:

    Knuther,
I am excited about Selvin too, but watchtheboard has a point. There is a lot to be said for tried and proven. I don’t want to get rid of henry because of that, but I do still think Young shoud get the bulk of the carries

  18. OscarVofox says:

I agree with watchtheboard. Henry has proven himself a powerful running back, and as asset to this football team. And as far as him lying, to Shanahan, he sure doesnt think so. Let the judge decide tomorrow. Young is also an awesome back, and quite possibly, the future of the Broncos run game. But for now, I think they should split the carries between the two. Two rested backs, are better than one worn out, and the other on the sidelines. And as far as Denver stopping the run game, we are getting better. Are we were we need to be at this point in the season? Everyone knows the answer is hell no! But we are improving. Im not ready to write this season off by any means, but wait and watch next year. These young players we have now will have some time to work together, they can figure each other out. Next year, I smell a potential title run coming.. Go Broncos! Mile High Reigns Forever!

  19. broncofanforever says:

I think selvin had an alright game but I think Travis is a better back split the carries 60/40 I won’t convict Travis until it’s proven everyone messes up sometime we just don’t always hear about(hint)

  20. RealisticFan says:

anonymous, broncofanforever is right. T Henry may or may not be guilty (probably is) but he is innocent until proven guilty. Why doesn’t anyone respect that anymore? That is one of the BASIC principles of our judicial system!

  21. comebackkid says:

It is like the quaterback situation with trying to replace John Elway. We havent had a solid running back since Davis. Yes we have had running backs that have gone over 1000 yards but no one that had the package like TD. I believe the reason why we won the 2 Superbowls is that Elway finally had someone to hand the ball off to. Cutler is going to be a success. Now we need to find a runing back and stick with him.

  22. gleaverman says:

    SHUT UP!!!

Travis Henry has one of the best stiff arms I have ever seen. He is a force in the back field. Selvin Young is fast but not an every down back. Young also has had durability problems, so don’t go jumping on the Selvin Young badwagon just yet. Odds are, they’ll just ship him out at the end of the season like they do with all of thier running backs. I’ll take a healthy Travis Henry over a young one game wonder any day. Not to say that Selvin Young is a one game wonder, he’s played well so far. So did Quinten Griffin. For one game. Against the Chiefs. Where is he now?

Without Henry, the Broncos have no depth at running back. None. Mike Bell is not that good. When will you people learn? The Broncos signed Henry to be THE every down back, and when healthy, he is plenty capable of being an every down back. I don’t care about his personal life. I don’t care if you have kids that shouldn’t be looking up to guys like Henry. Don’t make them watch the games with you. Every time Henry gets tackled he still gets five more yards after contact. He’s a good physical runner who deserves some respect, because if he’s suspended, the Broncos will have no chance at running consistantly.

Travis Henry desrves a fair chance. This is America. Inocent until proven guilty, right? Stop ragging on this guy. He just want’s to play football. Who cares if he smokes pot? How many potheads do you know who come home, beat up thier wives and cook thier baby in the oven?

I’m sick of reading all of this mindless banter from you fair weathered “fans”. You are all the same idiots who want Jake Plummer back. The same idiots who wanted him benched last season. The same idiots who want Shanahan gone. He’s had ONE losing season out of 13. I’m NOT calling this a losing season, becuase there is plenty of football left. It will be a sad day when Shanahan retires. Give the man his proper respect. Trust the Mastermind, enjoy the game, love the Broncos and SHUT THE **** UP!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!

  23. kb3073 says:

I was excited about Henry until I heard about nine kids with nine different women, then throw in the drug test BS and I would rather win or lose without him. Henry is better than Young but he’s a complete F’in idiot.

This game is almost a must win to keep pace with the Chargers. I’m excited to see the Cutler and Young match up. ESPN loves Young so I would love to see Cutler out play him like he did that guy in Arizona last year. The loss of Walker has been huge for Cutler as well as the entire offense. If we win this game and get Walker back next week things will finally start to look good for us.

  24. mommie7902 says:

I personally dont care who starts, finishes or carries the ball more or less as long as we get a win. Go Broncos

  25. jumbroncos88 says:

what is up with all the pesimism with donuts and whatnot, whether henry starts, or henry sits and young starts, it doesnt matter, system works, and we’ll have no problem stopping the run or the offense of tennessee…we just gotta worry about stopping vince, and gettin some points against their stout defense, i hope henry gets out of his charges, ive heard nothing but innocence from everyone, and if the nfl can suspend him for just being around it, thats bull$%^#…if he submits a hair sample, and passes, that should be enough for them..

  26. broncoforlife says:

I like sevin young but i also like travis henry and since most of the teams that got to the playoffs last year had a two back system i wouldnt mind that. The system works anybody back there is going to have a good game but did you see sevins determination, its hard to ignore and it was one game but i hope to see more out of this rookie. I dont know either if the d has got it together but we will see on monday night and hopefully we can. Shanahan is the best coach in the leage only one losing season in 13 is astounding and i think we should respect him and support his descions as far as travis guilty or not hey we are all human and before you go pointing the finger think for one moment and maybe see if he is or not and just start blabbing your mouth off.

  27. o henry says:

    ??????

  28. ballin bronco says:

I think everyone has forgot that Henry was leading rusher at the beginning of the season before he got hurt. Yes he is injury prone but he is a good back. I think they should still use him but also use Young in a two runningback system. This is crunch time and we need as much help as we can get.

  29. Anonymous says:

WOW, give the guy a break… There is no way Goodell should even think of BANNING Henry. Sure he’s tested positive more than once. But, you people are acting like he’s killed someone. Its just pot, which you can argue should be legal. I really like Selvin Young. But there is now way he can handle the whole load. I really hope T Hen gets the nod to play for the rest of the season, if so, we’ll have a great RB tandem.

  30. Broncfalls says:

I’m not sure there is a huge downfall to this situation actually.

Listen, I think we all were impressed with Selvin’s performance against KC. I actually thought it was the icing on the cake to see his post game interview. GREAT! character. Sure seems like he respects the organization and the league. With that said, Selvin has a long road ahead of him. At this point it looks like it’s a proven one.

Henry’s been there and done that. We’re at the half way point win all games now matter in a very big way. Henry needs the ball. 2nd half wins carry a much bigger burden than the 1st half. Experience is a key. The HB postion is one that we don’t want inexperience coming into play.

Let Henry do what he was brought here to do. Here’s the beauty though. If Henry is gone (suspended and/or hurt) I know a guy who has the next best chance to do great thing who is coming off very good performances and who’s confidence is rising.

To those of you bringing up the 2 back situation. Do you think it’s hard for those backs to get that momentum going? Is there a rythm that needs to be acquired? Just curious on what you guys thought? I do like the idea, though.

p.s. of course we win this Monday night!!!!

    Go Get Em’ Boys!!

  31. Dekreybroncofan says:

    Okay everyone,
Think about it. Who do players play the best against? Ding Ding Ding there old team, and when Travis was healthy he was the number one rusher in the NFL. I don’t know about you but I cant say the number one rusher is bad, but he has been injured and I hope they don’t bring him back to soon. I mean if he is going to be suspended play him, but if not we do have a very good quick back in Selvin that makes the D chase him. Knock them in the teeth with Travis, and then have a beaten up D chase Selvin in the 2nd and 4th quarters. Make sure to come out of the half pounding it with Travis again, and its going to be hard for them to Cover 15, 14, 89, 88, and 35 after Travis puts them on there toes. Take all that, a hostile environment, and a Denver D that finally knows how good it is thanks to Elvis’s leadership on the D line and we have a shot to win this thing. I think it will be a shoot out on an exciting Monday night game with two of “the up and coming QB’s” learning under the longest lasting coaches in the NFL… Denver: 34 Tennessee: 27 with both kickers getting two field goals.

  32. vegasbronco says:

The debate about him being “innocent until proven guilty” is no good in this situation. He’s not in a criminal court! It’s kind of like probation…he got caught breaking the rules, he got put into the program. What’s more, he KNOWS he was in the program, so he should be more careful than anyone. The bottom line is the guy can put whatever he wants into his body, and I don’t think any of us really care. But he has rules at work, just like the rest of us. I know if I have one “dirty” test at my job, I’m gonna be told to pick up my last check and good luck finding another job. He has an employer, and that employer has a league he reports to. Cry me a river because “it’s just pot”, but every one of these guys knows the rules before they choose to break or not break them. That said, I hope it turns out okay for him and he gets to keep playing, but nowhere does it say that an employer has to keep an employee who repeatedly breaks the terms of his contract….

  33. vegasbronco says:

Before I get branded anti-Henry, I love what he brings to the field. He was averaging…what, about 130, 140 yards in the first couple of games? Just like everyone said when they signed him, he runs with authority and I think he brings some power to the run game.

  34. ballin bronco says:

Finally its sounds like there some folks on the chat know what the are talking about all this bashing of Henry and talk of letting Young start all the time is crazy. Yes I like Young as well as the next guy but he still is a rookie. Now defenses will be ready for him. We need Henry in the backfield he is the more experienced back. While we have him, use him let all the other stuff work its self out. This is a important game on monday
no time to be playing with the line up. Run both keep the defense guessing
    I’m ready for the game.

  35. [...] Travis Henry has partial PCL tear, limited in Thursdays practice and will not practice Friday. Mason’s Morsels

  36. raloe1 says:

We should simply split time btwn Selvin & Henry if Henry is healthy. Stop with the silly postings of Selvin is great and he is out performing Henry. That is not to say Selvin isnt looking good, but remember how good Henry looked b4 he got hurt.. (yes again, lol!)

  37. raloe1 says:

dfish001 and Henry runs with bad intentions and punishes the defense. Again Im not saying I do not like Selvin…just being realistic.

    Go Broncos!

    Raider—- F*ck em
    Chargers—– F*ck em
    KC—- F*ck em

  38. raloe1 says:

Anonymous if Selvin ability was so big and he was so fast he would not have got caught from behind by a linebacker on his long run on Sunday. He is fast, but not nearly as fast a lot of other bks in the league. The majority is right. Splitting tim eis our (BRONCOS) best option. Also henry may not have the “explosiveness” but he is still averaging 4+ yards a pop!

  39. raloe1 says:

Damn I just read what you said watchtheboard. Well said!

  40. clutch734 says:

I hope henry plays…we need both of them ….but if not, young should do OK

  41. jro2625 says:

i don’t care how many rushing yards we give up as long as the our score is more than the opponents

  42. BWoZ26 says:

I completely agree with watchtheboard, Henry was doing great before all of his injuries and hes still in the top 10 last time i checked which i admit has been a while, still especially when he isnt suffering through an injury hes a great RB, why do you think we got him in the first place? this is the denver broncos, what do we do? we run the ball, why would we get a crappy RB when thats our favorite means of moving the ball? yes selvin did good but still hes not as good as travis henry

  43. [...] Travis Henry has partial PCL tear, limited in Thursdays practice and will not practice Friday. Mason’s Morsels

  44. ballin bronco says:

watchtheboard Said is right, as i said yesterday people have a short memory about Henry. But anyway on the game monday i think the biggest problem is going to be stopping the run not really with Lendal but with Vince we have not been getting good penetration to the QB’s this year. Having Lynch back will help keep Lendal from breaking off big runs and stuffing the middle, the problem will be the D line containing Vince also or safetys need to watch the pump fakes Vince does that alot. Our offence is looking like they can score again and put points on the board so i’m not to worried about that.
