Getting My Stamina Back

September 25th, 2008 - 5:59pm by Ryan Torain

Alright, I’ve got some big news this week:

I started lifting weights with my left arm. I’ve started conditioning and running full speed now, too — I don’t have to be on the treadmill all the time. It definitely gives me a lot more to do now that I’m not just lifting weights with one arm. So I’m starting to take big strides just by getting into the swing of things, getting my stamina up.

I’m getting excited. It’s getting closer every week and I can’t wait to get out there. I can’t wait to start practicing. Then when I step on that game field, it’s going to be something I ain’t never felt before. It’s the NFL, I haven’t played in a game yet, I missed all the preseason games. I’ve just been out here watching. I’ve got a whole bunch of energy balled up and ready to explode, for real. I just can’t wait to get out there.

So last week was another exciting game — it was a whole bunch of emotions going all which ways. I was wishing I was out there helping the team, but I’ve just got to give verbal support, just doing what I can to keep guys hyped and cheered up and just bring some enthusiasm to the sidelines.

Combine the big win with the fact that I’m lifting with my left arm and I don’t have to wear the brace 24/7 anymore, and it’s been a pretty good week.

This past Tuesday I went with a bunch of the rookies to a Boys & Girls Club to help get the kids excited about staying active and in shape. That was fun. It was an experience. The little kids look up to us players, so we just went out there and had a good time and played with them. They had a couple questions and I had a couple of questions for them, just trying to make them think. I’m glad we got to get out there and make the kids feel better about themselves.

As you can tell, we in the ’08 rookie class have been trying to stick together. It’s team camaraderie. We’ve got to be close with each other and have a good time.

That’s it for this week, just getting ready for a trip to KC and hopefully we can keep this fast start going.

Ryan….. Glad to see your getting better. Can’t wait to see you in action. At least I will get to see you live in San Diego at the end of the season. Also last year I bought an autograph Jarvis Moss football from the NFL Auction section and Im just wondering when your autograph ball will be available so I can add it to my case.
    Take care…..West Coast

Hey Ryan, I’m a huge fan of yours and I can’t wait to see if your name will be mention along with the other great past RB’s in Denver. I got high hopes for you! I have one question to ask you. If and when you do become the starter in Denver(hopefully soon) is there any chance you could bring back the Mile High Salute? The last time was when Mike Anderson was our RB. I miss seeing Denver Saluting the fans after every TD scored. Now I live in Delaware so I don’t get to see most of the games on TV and I am not able to watch the Denver pregame show, so I don’t know if their is a reason why no rb is saluting anymore. I think you will be the perfect RB to bring it back!! If there is anyway you could respond back to me in an email. (Murph2432@aol.com) Let me know if there is a reason why the Mile High Salute has stopped. Thank You Very Much, Can’t Wait to Watch You On SUNDAY!!

    Hello Ryan,

We are so happy to have you in Denver. I have been braggin to my boys (who are stupid Chiefs fans) that you are the real deal and possibly the best back on our team. Get well soon cuz we need you bro. Make us proud in Bronco Country. We need a guy who can make us jump out of our seats and glued to the TV on Bronco Sunday. We know what kind of stuff you got and we can’t wait to showcase it to the rest of the NFL. Get your warrior face on baby cuz in Denver we EXPECT to win…that’s how we roll!! Ryan,

That is great new!!! I know it has been a trying time waiting and being patient. I remember my nephew hurting his shoulder in high school blocking a punt. HE had surgery and they would not let him move it for 4 weeks. Living with him was like being confined in a room with a Tornado that could nto be turned loose. I must say you have done a great job staying positive and keeping your energy up. I know you will be a load to try and stop when they cut you free from the restraints. HEy when you get to KC, tell the chiefs you will be waiting for them in week 14 and you will have your running shoes on. I an really excited for the rest of the year Fantasy Football wise, I have you and all the denver starters and week 14 is my first playoff week and you guys are gonna feast on the chiefs!

Speaking of feasts. One question you must answer! Living in Kc before, WHO is your favorite BBQ joint? Bryant, Gates, Smokestack, Edwards, or something I have not tried yet? right now my fav is Gates, but I have heard great things about Edwards. Let me know.

    Kevin

Torain – I’m surprised you didn’t mention going home? Will you get to see family in the K.C. area? Are they Broncos fans now??? This is an easy year to make that transition… I was just on craigslist looking for tickets (and broncos fans – you can buy them under face value) and one person wrote, “It’ll be a good game, the Broncos offense is good and the Chiefs defense is bad!” I couldn’t stop laughing!!! Go BRONCOS – get pumped up to take it to the Chiefs in Arrowhead…

im anxious to see what you can do out there we all expect you to be great and end up being the next premier back in the league. hopefully all the pressure does not get to you though and im not knocking any of our other backs cause i like selvin and andre alot i think those guys are excellent but i just have a feeling about you that your gonna do great things as long as you stay healthy which is not easy in this league.but anyways good luck and bring back the salute we all miss it.

p.s. does anyone besides me think we need to bench manuel he is really bad at pass defense everytime we let up a big pass play he is in the picture, also we need to get jarvis moss out there on the field if we want to improve the pass rush he would do alot better then engelberger and ekuban he’s to big and fast to not be good.

  10. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

    Ryan,

Since you’ve been to the black hole in Week 1, you’ve already met the most classless fans in the league and survived it. However, watch for a few unidentified flying objects ERRRR batteries at Arrowhead, especially if we rout them. All joking aside, though, just continue to rehab and I think a chance still exists we might see you later in the season.

  11. chickennob2 says:

This is great news. Elvis got the pins out of his finger. You’ve started full conditioning. Things must be looking better in the training room.

  12. orang_crush420 says:

That is great news!! Keep us all informed on when we should pick you up in our fantasy leagues :)

  13. Hardcore Bronco Babe says:

    Hello Ryan.
I’m glad to hear that your recovery is going so well. I’m sure it won’t be long till you are back in uniform again. Keep staying positive and that will work wonders.

  14. JMB says:

    Nice Work!!

Tell Woodyard if he gets in there to key on Gonzales and hit him sooo hard he has snot bubbles!

    Go Broncos!

  15. Broncosfreak_56 says:

I’m exited to see what you can do in the offense. I can’t wait until your back on the field.

  16. atwaters da man says:

We are all ready to ride to Torian Train all the way to Tampa! If you get a chance I think it would be very worth while to get the entire 1996-1998 Denver broncos film to watch and inspire you. TD was a slasher back and that seems to be the best fit for our offense. Also the 2 years we went all the way there was something that seems very small but I think was very relevant to the success of our 2 super bowl years and that is “Hat Day.” After you watch the film you will know what I’m talking about. Please ask coach Shanahan to bring back hat day as a huge favor please? So glad to hear you are doing well!
I know this year they have tried to push the whole “believe in now” campaign but I think last years mado is what it is really all about…”Who Wants it More!” That is the truth I think and it sounds to me like you want it really bad and I can’t wait to see you knock Hanysworth on his butt! Go Broncos!

  17. Denverboy01 says:

I am soooo excited to see Ryan on the feild! I have been ever since Mike Shanahan said the very strong statement,”He is the best running back ive seen since Terrel Davis.” Now that is a strong comment and it means so much to Broncos fans. Also, I agree with everyone else with bringing to Mile High salute back. The last time i saw it was when Mike Anderson did it after scoring. I really miss it and it is a big part of Broncos history. I think Ryan could be the running back the Broncos have been searching for since TD left. Well hang in there and get better.

  18. baileythebronco says:

read on the combine page you put yourself on the giants team do you still do that? :)

  19. denwu says:

I have to agree with Murph2342. We need to bring back the Mile High Salute. I told this to Elvis Dumervil, he read it, and responded that it’s Terrell Davis’. But the truth is that it’s the Broncos. Terrell gave it to the Broncos that year. Other players did it, Rod Smith did it, and it’s something that brings back super bowl feelings.
