Gameday in St. Louis: Post No. 16

September 10th, 2006 - 1:43pm by Andrew

Through three quarters:

  • Rams lead in total yardage, 196 yards to 178.
  • Broncos lead in first downs, 12 to 11.
  • Rams lead in passing yardage, 139 to 79.
  • Broncos lead in passing yardage, 99 yards to 57.
  • Tatum Bell is the game’s rushing leader (77 yards on 11 carries).

But the most painful statistic for the Broncos — besides the score — is turnovers: Broncos 3, Rams 0. It became four after Jake Plummer’s downfield pass for Todd Devoe was intercepted by Corey Chavous, just one play after Mike Bell had ripped off a 36-yard run to move Denver into St. Louis territory.

This one was aggravating, everything leading up to this one lead me to believe they were ready to go. I hate to even type the words, but they were not ready. It’s only week one, plenty of time to set the ship straight.

Ready or not a lot of things just looked plain sloppy. I’m hoping it’s another hickup like the Miami game was last year. We’ll see and wish.

Veteran teams always seem to struggle early becuase they don’t get alot of work during the pre-season. That said, it does not excuse 5 turnovers. Several teams played poorly, but still got the win, our undesciplined play, coupled with the penalties and stupid mistakes made a win impposible to achieve.
