Fundraisers and Outdoor Fun, With Camp Around the Corner

July 24th, 2007 - 9:31am by domonique_foxworth

I had a busy week, actually. I went to the Museum of Nature and Science to see the Titanic exhibit, which was pretty cool. I’m going to Titanic on the Terrace this coming Wednesday, which is a fundraiser for the museum. Everyone gets dressed up and hangs out as if they were on the Titanic, I guess. I imagine as a black man on the Titanic I should probably put on some sort of help attire, but I refuse to. I’m going to pretend like things were fair back then and wear a suit.

I went white water rafting up on Clear Creek with Mile Hi Rafting — the same ATV people. It was a good time. My tour guides were Danimal and John — Danimal’s a funny name but he’s a great guy. We had a good time. It was quite an adventure. I’m a little competitive so we went on the intermediate so we hit some level fours. I’m going for some fives and sixes next time. It was my first time so I figured I can handle fours. We definitely bounced around a little bit.

I went to a polo fundraiser thing — the Denver Polo Classic. It’s a big fundraiser for the Denver Active 20-30, and they had polo matches and kind of a Kentucky Derby feel. All of the women had big hats, they were selling mint juleps. It was a good time. Good fundraiser for an organization that does a lot for kids. It was fun to be there.

My favorite part was the Jack Russell races. They had three heats of Jack Russell Terrier races. I paid a lot more attention to those than the polo, but it’s good to say that I’ve been to a polo match.

That night I went to a party at the Sculptured House — my second trip there. I got to meet the owner, a guy named Mike. Enjoyed myself — it was fun.

I was proud of the spirited and energetic performance of the hockey team on Saturday, but they did come up a little short against the best team in the league. There’s always next week.

I was trying to avoid talking about training camp at all costs. I’ve been playing for so long all my friends and family understand camp’s coming around, so it’s time to leave me alone. I guess we need to postpone the friend applications because I will be MIA for quite some time. For at least a month it will be tough to get a hold of me. So please hold on to your friend applications until after camp.

But we’re all looking forward to it — we’re really excited, just talking to my teammates. I guess no one’s really excited about two-a-days, but we’re all excited about getting back together and getting back in the swing of things and having fun with this great team that we have. That we think we have, I guess. It remains to be seen.

We have our last writing class tonight. I’m planning on picking it up after camp and getting back involved with it, but I’m really proud of the progress that we’ve been able to make this summer. I think we can make some additions to the class after camp because some girls are moving on to college.

I was the spokesperson for the Broncos Reading Corners last year, so some of their best readers are taking a trip to a water park on Thursday. I was invited, and I can’t wait. It should be fun. I’m not a big fan of water parks, but I think that they deserve a reward and I guess me being there is kind of cool. Hopefully. They may not like it that much — I don’t know. I was asked to go, and I can’t turn down some great readers. Got to be a positive role model.

Hey Fox, glad you had some fun rafting. Sounds like a lot of fun. Jack Russell races seem like a kick to watch. :D I’m sure the kids will be excited to know you’ll come with them to the water park (if it’s Water World, I think you’ll enjoy it). You’re a good inspiration for them and many others.

No friend applications until after camp? Sounds good, since I should be moved by then. Where shall we send them, when that time comes around? :P Also, you need to get someone to make you a form for people to fill out… that’d be great! haha

Take it easy Foxy and good luck at training camp. I’m rooting for ya!

Domonique, its great to see that you are still able to go out, have fun, and experience new things all while still being so strongly involved with the community. I have loved reading your blog and hope you keep up the good work! I think that it is great to see things from a different perspective and get insight on the off-the-field team activities. Good luck at camp, man.

I just wanted to say hey to Dominique. As a proud graduate of the Univ.of MD. and a long time MD. football season ticket holder I was lucky to watch Dominique through all 4 seasons at MD. and now that I am here in Colorado I can watch him and Curome cox play for the Broncos and represent the Terrapin nation.

Also having shared a class with him during his last semester at
MD. I know what kind of class act he is.
