Oh, the many frustrations of this season as a Denver Bronco.
We had another loss, another frustrating loss, against a team we feel like we could beat. That seems to be the story of the season. We come off a great game and then play poorly.
We have been extremely inconsistent. It’s frustrating missing the playoffs this year. It’s one of the many drawbacks of our inconsistency and the constant change that we’ve had especially as a defense. One of the most unfortunate things about having a season like this is the casualties we have around here as far as players are concerned. It’s just the way the business is if your team isn’t producing. Generally, someone has to pay the price. Sometimes coaches get cut, sometimes players get cut. Fan support thins. So there’s a lot of prices being paid around here right now.
A lot of players are getting cut. We’ve had it throughout the course of the season especially on defense. It’s been a revolving door it seems like with players in and out and in and out. Now it’s Tuesday which is normally the cut-and-sign day around the league. I came up here to work out and bumping into a couple of my teammates — I guess now ex-teammates — who now are free agents is a sad part of the business, but it is a business.
I guess feeling bad for them doesn’t do much. Producing on the field probably would’ve kept more people around so that is our only recourse, to try to play better and save our own jobs and the ones of the people around us. I think that there’s enough pride on this team that we’re going to play hard for the rest of the season despite the fact that there’s no playoffs to chase. There’s still a lot of pride on this team and in this community to put out a decent product, one that we can be proud of and one that the fans can respect.
Not looking too far ahead into the future, we have San Diego this week, but this offseason’s going to be a very interesting one around the Broncos facility, especially in the secondary where I’ve grown to be pretty close to all the guys. We’re a really close group in the secondary. There’s a lot of free agents in the secondary this offseason, so it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with those guys. I hope most of us can stay around. I’m one of those free agents, although I’m restricted. I think Hamza Abdullah and Karl Paymah are also. Nick Ferguson is also a free agent. There’s a few guys whose contracts will be expiring. Some of us will be restricted, so hopefully the Broncos will keep us around. Others will be free to go on to other teams. Nick is going to be a ‘free’ free agent. There’s always speculation around John every year about whether or not he’s going to return since he’s been playing so long. Along with the rest of the team, it’ll be interesting to see especially in the secondary what comes of the offseason.
In the offseason, I think one of the really important things for this team is to make sure our leaders assert themselves and develop a hard-working, no-excuse culture of production throughout the offseason that will carry over to the next season. I think that should be one of the main goals for the captains and the leaders of this team during this offseason. Hopefully we can build some continuity and camaraderie with our team going into the next year and these next couple games are a way for us to start that process.
The last time we played the Chargers it didn’t turn out quite well. We were disappointed with how we played. While we are not the team we had hoped we would be right now, we’re still a lot better than we were then, so we’re looking forward to the opportunity to play them at their place on Christmas Eve and display some of our improvements. It is a Monday night game for the world to see. Like I said before, the pride this team and organization has will show through this Monday I expect.
It’s kind of a short blog this week. Not much to talk about. You just end up beating a dead horse with the frustrations that the Broncos have. I think that it’s getting more and more difficult to focus on the positives but there definitely are some.
I think we’ve found some stars on this team throughout the course of this season especially with Brandon Marshall and Elvis Dumervil and I think Jay Cutler has come into his own and he’s somebody that we can trust this team to. I think going into our next season and several years to come we have a leg up on a lot of teams, because one of the most difficult things to find is a quarterback that you can trust to make plays when you need them to be made, and I think we found that in Cutler. We found a tough receiver who will make plays in Marshall and we found a great defensive end, a game-changing defensive player I think in Elvis Dumervil. There are some silver linings. We had almost a first-year offensive line with all the young guys stepping in. They’ve done well as well as our rookie defensive linemen.
I hope you enjoy your holiday week. All ready!

Foxworth man i am with you
i think its time to give you a shot to play CB or SS or FS your choice
and i hate to say this but if that means going to another team
the only thing i will say is
its been awesome seeing you play and i would hate to see you go but chase that dream be the next Champ with somebody else
Foxworth, your tha man!! we need your heart and leadership in this locker room…champ cant be the man forever and we need you to be the successor..I feel next year we will be in contention…i think Denver is your best chance to start in the future..your way better then bly, no offense if he reads this..but your younger, faster, and just plain play with more heart..My new years resolution is to see Fox in a broncos jersey next year!! pay the man and play the man
You forgot a vital component, Fox, yourself. Hopefully, you stick around. I like you as do millions of other Broncos fans. All will be well. Of this, I have no doubt. The harsh reality is we are a young team, and young teams have to learn the hard way by incurring frustrating losses. Nevertheless, I’m not disappointed in you guys. Let’s just make things hard for the Chargers and Vikes, okay? Keep up the good work!!!
You and most of the players can’t be blamed for the way the season has gone. There have just been so many changes in personnel and schemes that it has really been tough for you guys, but I believe the team will turn around and be a threat next season. The talent is definitely there, just not developed yet. Cutler will be a great franchise quarterback, and Brandon Marshall is pretty amazing! Can’t believe his throwing snow in the stands during the Chiefs game drew a penalty. Players need to have fun and get to celebrate big plays (as long as it doesn’t go too far). Back to fans - sometimes they’re TOO critical. If a fan bails out on the team, then they were never really a fan in the first place. Good luck and Merry Christmas!
Well, Mr. Foxworth I really hope the Broncos keep you around for many years to come. You have managed to stay pretty up-beat in your posts this year, but the frustration definitely comes through on this one. I hope you (and the other players) don’t feel as though this was a wasted year since we didn’t make it to the playoffs. Like you said I think the true core of the team was revealed this year, and I’m sure the coaches see who has played with heart and intensity this year. Injuries really plagued the offense this year. Anyways, I just want to let you know that I have really enjoyed reading your blog the last couple years and watching you play and really hope to see you retire a Bronco. Good luck this week against the Chargers, hope you get a pick for Christmas!
Foxy if Shanahan is smart he will keep you around and I hope that all this frustration upon us doesnt make you want to go get a ring some where else. Have a good and safe Holiday. After we beat the Chargers of course.
“It’s kind of a short blog this week. Not much to talk about. You just end up beating a dead horse with the frustrations…”
Couldn’t you have used a mascot from a different team?
All kidding aside I definitely see you sticking around. Seeing how you are restricted the team is only going to re-sign you this year if it is to match another team’s offer. With CB being a “premium” around the league I wouldn’t be surprised to see you get an offer or two. I know the Chiefs would love to “raid” as they have attempted in the past and they need some younger corners. In the end, you will remain a Bronco.
You were drafted along with Paymah, Abdullah, and Darrent (God rest his soul). Denver knew one or all of you guys were going to pan out. With the heat they have received for recent drafts and letting guys go I just dont see it happening. I think Management (Shanny) understands he is best sticking to the younger guys and going through growing pains if need be.
(I do see Bly getting traded though! Maybe we can send him to D.C where he wanted to be all along)
Now all you need to do bring it like you do and become the leader we all know you are!
This team will be exciting next year!
GO BRONCOS!
Thank you, Foxy, for your vote of confidence for the O-line. This was possible the most disparaged unit on the team, yet I, too, believe they did a great job. People seemingly fail to consider that none of the current starters have every played together before this season, that two of them have never before been starters, and another is playing in a position in which he also has never started. Moreover, it looks as if Lepsis is still recovering from his injury.
Hopefully, Lepsis will be 100 percent by next season, and the Broncos will have Nalen and/or Hamilton back. If so, they will have a juggernaut for an O-line, IMO.
The most consistent unit on the team, though, has been the secondary, IMO. If you all can stay together, and the Broncos can import another good defensive tackle to go with the budding stars on the D-line, I believe we will be amazed at how much the secondary has “improved,” if you know what I mean.
The Broncos are blessed with exceptional talent in the secondary, with Champ at 1, Dré at 2a, you (Foxy) at 2b (or vice-versa), and
Paymah at your heels. Then you have rising star Abdullah. I’m
excited about your future if, as you mentioned, you can all stay together.
I’ve been a huge fan of yours, Foxy. Thank you for justifying that,
on and off the field.
I can understand your frustration. The talent on this team cannot be questioned. We are still very young, and it is hard to change things up as much as we did this year and still have success.
I wouldn’t encourage you or any of your teammates to read the other blogs. There are a lot of stupid so-called Denver fans out there. I can’t believe all the people who are calling for Coach Shannahan’s job. Come on. He has made this team competetive for 13 years. He’s an offensive mind. I know we struggled offensively this year inside the 20s, but we still moved the ball. I don’t understand the people who hate of Jay. Cutler looks good for the amount of time he has played. I honestly wouldn’t trade Jay for any other QB in the league. I see more potential in him than any of QB recently. He can create plays, make any throw, and seems durable. Brandon Marshall is great. I just hope he doesn’t turn into TO.
I like all our running backs, especially Selvin. Stokely is great, and so is Walker. I think we need to focus on getting one more athletic offensive lineman, but the offense looks good going into next year.
I honestly love the defense too. I still would love to see you get time at FS. I am not in the locker room or at the meetings, so I don’t know if the problem on defense has to do with schemes or players not doing their part. It is probably a combination of both. We have the talent to be great though. It takes time. Losing Al Wilson really hurt. I think next year we will be much better.
I am only concerned about John Lynch. He is still good, but I worry about his health. He has been getting hurt a lot lately. I know he has a family, and I hope he starts to consider them more than his career. You don’t want to end up with serious post-playing injuries or worse.
It is special teams that is really a concern. We cannot continue to put our defense and offense in such bad situations. We need to focus on that.
Keep your head up Dominique. I hope you stay in Denver because you never want to lose a team player. You also seem like you do a lot for the community. I appreciate anyone in your position who understands the truly important things in life. It is easy to focus on worldly things when you live the celebrity lifestyle. Money can’t buy you happiness. None of us will ever be able to take our possessions with us. Personally, I believe that we are supposed to help those who can’t be helped. Christ says to love one another as I (meaning Jesus, not me) have loved you. I think that is so true. For me, sharing Christ’s love and gift of salvation is more important than anything else. Secondly though, we should love those who don’t seem like they deserve it. I don’t know your religious background, and I won’t ask. But, you seem like you have a heart for the things of God. Have a great Holiday. Keep your head up.
Nice entry Foxworth!
I like how your staying positive. As well as us fans. I am going to the Vikings game hoping we can pull an upset! I’ll be rooting for all you guys!
As far as this offseason goes, there will be changes, but thats like everybody else. I just hope we can have a sound draft and hopefully not too much of a revolving door like this whole year has been. I know we are only a short time away from playoff contention and I am confident in that.
Fox,
I hope we re-sign you , Hamza , and Paymah. When I was rolling down to leave a reply I saw “I do see Bly getting traded though! Maybe we can send him to D.C where he wanted to be all along” That is a dumb comment. Why would we trade Dre’ he is a great corner and why is he getting alot of the blame our D can’t stop the run and our CBs are cheating up to help losing is a team effort as is winning. About San Diego we need revenge this has been a bad year an all but this is one season I can’t wait to smash on the Bolts and get em back. As for the off-season I hope we don’t have any really really frustrated Broncos that want to leave. On cbssportsline.com I post on there to talk NFL and I started a thread about you and if we should re-sign you. I think if you put on some pounds you could be a full time starter at free saftey if John retires then we would have you and Abdullah back there with Champ Dre’ and Karl at CB.I love Nate Webster he is a great player I hope we re-sign him but if we let him go Boss Bailey is a free agent also. I think we should go after a BIG DT in the forst round and start Elvis Crowder Thomas and that BIG DT lol. I am concerned about the Henry/Walker situation I would keep Javon. Henry can leave I like him and all but I am worried about another slip up plus he is always hurt. Well any way I am begging you to please stay a Denver Bronco I don’t want to lose another favorite player of mine.
All Ready !!
dude sivocb 24 dre bly has sucked everywhere he has been except UNC in college, even while on the rams it was a toss up between him and two others Light and Allen…but anyways…his own friend and ex team mate said he is a no hitter.,…and thats the biggest prob with him….not the fact he lets old vets burn him like tim dwight of the raiders or fast younger guys like andre johnson,,but has anybody watched him try to tackle.. unless he can grab the man by the ankle,,he gets outta the way and hopes he slows em down…darrent and fox..both learned from champ…you go in there and wreck havoc the best ya can….i like dre but im sick of watching him slide to tackle and get burned week in and week out at least once a game deep for td…go back to the tapes….start fox and trade bly for a 3rd round pick..if you can get that for him
Like you said, there’s not too much to say here. Only 2 weeks left. That’s kind of a bummer because I don’t feel like the Broncos have lived up to their potential. I guess I feel cheated in a way. I’m not ready for the season to be over at all because I’m waiting for that break out.
I really hope that you’ll stick around Denver. It’d be a huge loss to the team, to the fans and most importantly to the community. If you go there are some guys that will really have to step up their game in charity work.
I’ve got something to cheer you up a bit. Its the new McDonald’s commercial promoting the Happy Meal. Its a good one, even tho I don’t eat there. Enjoy! http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZwkZHSbvBIY
Merry Christmas Fox!!
Foxy,
I cant agree with you more. Inconsistancy on a team is the most frustrating, especially when you come off of a big win like KC and just go down afterwards. Dont think that Broncos Country is thinning out we’re all here for you no matter the record. Off seasons always make me nervous with the free agencies and stuff. I hate seeing players that Ive come to watch every Sunday be passed to another team, its just weird. So you should definintly stay with the Broncos, I would hate to come on here and not beable to read your blog and know whats going on. Marshall, Dumervil, and Cutler have all shown great potential and they help keep the team going. They get so fired up and play with passion, its nice to see that. Dont forget about Scheffler though, big man stepping up and doing everything he can to get that TD on Thursday. Im really excited for next year because all of our young players have grown and thats always a great thing to watch. Im ready for the game on Monday Night (Christmas Eve) going for the glory right now and no one’s going to bring us down! You be safe this holiday to now you here.
Love,
Ashley
sorry fox but im tired of the wait for next year excuses that i hear and read from everybody, in this game nothing is guaranteed especially with injuries and free agency. Everybody on the team has to take ownership of how things went this year. Yes the coaches should of done a better job of calling plays but it still is the job of the team to execute as a unit and that just didnt happen that often this year. Everybody wants to say how some players are old but the patriots have old players who seem to do enough to win especially on defense. For some reason in our locker room their just isnt foucs 100 percent of the time and thats why we lose games we should win. Im not going to say we should bring in a whole bunch of new players, but i do think we need to play everybody at their natural position were they can excel. Ferguson has to go he is to slow and is injured every year, john can stay but he needs only to play in running and blitz situations maybe he can be converted to a linebacker on certain downs. Well another frustrating season but I’ll still be rooting for the team on monday.
Hey Fox,
Man. The off season is upon us, huh? Going into the off season sucks. My Sunday’s are spent flipping through channels, cleaning out my closets, clipping coupons that I never use (Who clips coupons any more? Who does that?!), and eating way too much because…well….there’s no NFL football on tv.
So yeah, it sucks. And it sucks even more when you know your team didn’t do as well as you’d hoped during the season and there is a chance that the players that you really, really have grown to love may not be around next year.
I have to admit, and I am quite embarrassed to say that this season I’ve screamed cuss words that I didn’t even know I knew. In fact, I think I even made up a few new ones. It was ugly.
Anyway, at the end of the day, you boys are loved by so many. And although the season was disappointing, we will be out there again next season supporting, cheering and loving you all the same!
Merry Christmas to you and your famliy. And Merry Christmas to the rest of my Orange and Blue boys!
Best of luck to you on Monday night!
All Ready!!

Oh yeah…
Dumervil for President.
~ChocolateQT
i really hope you will still be a Bronco next season! i also really hope Nick will to!
GO BRONCOS!!
-PARIS (#1 BRONCO FAN!)
I agree about Jay, and I hope my last comment didnt make you feel like I dont want you on this team. It is just better judgment tells me anouther team can pay you more. I have the part of me that thinks that dosent matter as much to you are the experince you get here, but money dose talk. I think there is going to be a big CB market this season with a certian someone from NE getting ready to leave.
Oh and I think that the people who don’t support Jay need to be cut because the Offense is being built around him… Just give the Kid a year or two, and the naysayer will dwindle.
Thanks. Thats what all fans needed,Positive words about the progress of the team, and the downfalls of the team, Its good to hear that kind of thing from you with no corners taken. One thing you said in your message was that when stuff go’s south for the broncos that fan support thins down, I hate to think that true fans stop watching and supporting the team because we have some ups and downs, Dont get me wrong my heart stopped when we lost all chance of going to the playoffs,I took all the crap from my friends for a couple of days let it all soak in for a coulple more, But man this season was a blast all and all when I really thought about it are team is fun to watch grow and knowing that its all going to come together and be unstopable I cant wait to see you guys play in san diego thats the begining of are next season what we leave is what we take with us to the offseason and I cant wait to take back what is ours,
Thanks and never leave anything on the field.
Fox, have a good Christmas and hopefully you can get your interception this week.
all of you that are bagging on dre bly need to stop! if you think we would have done better this year with another corner other than dre you are completely insane and know nothing. we could not stop the run at all nor rush the passer except for elvis (doctor doom) worth a d#$m. we need to get a hold of some d-lineman with more heart than what was shown this season.
As for you Fox, I have always like your energy on the field and you are very giving with your time off the field. You are a true superstar and I hope you will stay with the broncos.
PS, If you can, watch some tapes of how tyrone braxton used to play safety for the broncos, he was a corner early on in his career and moved to safety, you remind me a lot of him and I know you are a quality corner but we need you to get some run at saftey either when Lynch retires or if Nick decides to leave, anyways just a thought from a life long BRONCOMANIAC!
ramboskithefan
I can understand what you are saying but you can’t trade him after 1 year he has had arouhg year but remember 2004 when Champ got lit up for 6 TDs that year…look at him now. The whole D had a rough year but you can’t start trading everyone. I think Darrent would have been alot better than Dre’ and the same with Fox but would you rather have 3 good CBs or 2…..Don’t forget we have a S in Fox if Lynch goes.If you want to talk NFL or any other sport create an account and post on CBS ere is the link

hey D. Fox,this season has been a rollercoaster ride only more down sides then ups.I am really looking forward to seeing you next season with the AFC champion Denver Broncos and going to the superbowl. My girlfriend and I are looking forward to meeting you at this mon. nights game in S.D.She is a choken charger fan(please do not hold that against her, she really is a great girl} thats why we have a love, hate relationship.I tell her all the time how classy of a guy you are,and she has seen how great you are on the field, but living in S.D. I never get a chance to see you guys in person except once a year, and that sucks. My girlfriend asked me what I wanted for christmas, and I told her , to be able to meet some of My Broncos, wish them a merry christmas, and have a victory over the chargers.I hope thats not too much to ask.Let’s finish this year right.D hope to be able too see you about an hour or so before kickoff. If not have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
yours truley,Kevin & Valerie
I can’t think of any better way for the Bronco players to relieve thier frustrations than to knock the spit out of the chargers! i don’t care if you win the game, just thrash them!
Foxworth,
great post man i agree with you, too badfor the buisness side of the game ,but the coaches do what’s they feel is bes for the team, anyway good luck man i hope you land a great deal your a starter on any other team man. good luck and best wishes…
ALL READY
Fox, you have shown your loyalty to the Broncos through play, passion, and professionalism. A little bit more of that from a few more of your teammates and things may have been a little different this season. I have enjoyed watching your development and I wish the best for you and your family.
Now go and get yours.
If Shanahan and the Broncos’ brain trust think they can do better than you for cheaper, believe they will let you go. Sometimes I think Shanahan shows too much commitment in players that don’t deserve it and not enough in players that do.
Your career is ahead of you. Keep proving that you can play and there will be a place for in this league. Another opportunity is on the horizon. All Ready!
good luck tonight! and merry Christmas Eve!
Don’t forget to mention Selvin. He too has been an emerging star. He has over come a lot of obstacles in his life and has great work ethic. Definitely a great role model and great player. I love the youth on our team. I pray you can be a part of that next season and the season’s to come.
