Predictably, given the tenor of the commentary on NFL Network’s broadcast and the NFL.com report by the channel’s Adam Schefter about the Broncos’ quarterback position, backup passer Jay Cutler was besieged by the press as he silently dressed at his locker-room stall following Thursday night’s 19-10 loss to the Chiefs.
Here’s what the rookie had to say:
- ON THE SITUATION AT HAND: “It’s been tough, but I’m here to support the team. I’m going to support Jake as long as he’s the starting quarterback — and he still is. So we’ve just got to get back to work.”
- ON WHETHER PART OF HIM IS ITCHING FOR A CHANCE TO PLAY: “I think everyone in here wants a chance to go out there and show what they can do, but right now, it’s not my time. I’m just watching and learning and going about it like that.”
- WOULD A NINE-DAY BREAK BETWEEN GAMES HELP IF YOU BECAME STARTER: “I guess. I think it could help Jake, it could help any quarterback, as well. But I don’t know. It’s not up to me.”
- WAS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ABOUT PUTTING YOU IN THE GAME? “No.”
- ON HOW THE RUMORS AFFECTED PLUMMER: “Jake’s tough. He’s been through this before. He’s dealt with adversity. He’s played really well at times and he’s struggled at times. It’s just a roller-coaster ride. I don’t think what happens outside the locker room really affects him.”
- ON WHETHER HE’D BE READY IF ASKED TO PLAY: “Yeah. I think I can go out there and play and be efficient with this offense.”
- ON THE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HIMSELF AND PLUMMER: “It’s been great. Jake’s been a professional about the whole thing, as I have, and we’re friends off the field. There’s been no bad blood there at all.”
- WITH THE LOSS, THE MEDIA AROUND, IS THIS AN UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATION? “No. It’s going to happen. Wherever there’s a quarterback controversy — whether it’s true or not — the media’s going to come at it, so I’ve just got to deal with it and move on.”
- ON WHETHER HE FEELS HE WILL BE RUSTY IF HE PLAYS: “Yeah, you might be right. I don’t get a lot of reps during practice and I haven’t played since preseason, so if I do get in there, I’ll have to knock the rust off, but it’ll slow down as the game goes on.”

Long time Bronco fan here. Plummer had help losing this one. The O-line; dropped passes from veteran corps; a deflated, lack of confidence, what in the world happed because the injuries aren’t that bad DEFENSE; and special teams that ranks at the bottom of the leauge (Jason Elam excluded). This is tough to watch after hopes were so high early on. Fighting for a wildcard is about all we have left. I can’t put my finger on it because the talent is there. The fire is out, our confidence is shaken and the next five games will all be tough. Good luck fellow donks fans.
Sorry I mispelled “league”–mistakes are happening everywhere lately!
The Pressure of Cutler looking over his shoulder must be affecting Plummer. Though he acts as if it doesn’t bother him it does! If Jake wants to keep his job he must stop worrying about Cutler. Don’t get me wrong I right now i want to see Cutler in there too just like most Bronco fans. Hopefully he starts against Seattle, hopefully.
If the defense would just wrap up the ball carrier instead of tring to lay down the big hit, then Champ won’t have to make just about every tackle.
Where has the running game went? Where have all the big plays gone. I feel like our playbook is more like a pamplet with very few plays.
Jake has just looked bad. Im a big fan of him but Ive even gotten to the point where I think Cutler needs to be put in to see what can happen. Plummer hasnt had the most time to throw this year, but he has also been very bad with accuracy. Switching Walker for Lelie was supposed to be a passing game boost. There are alot of problems on the offense…Im not sold its all Plummer, but theres only one way to see
I disagree…..I saw Plummer play last night and he was working his butt off. He made played but everybody around him let him down….especially pass protection, and dropped passes, and we have no pass catching tight end…How about the running game 28 yards…Is that Plummers fault???????C`mon people Plummer never won us the superbowl but he made the team a contender everytime he played. Don’t get me wrong I want to see Cutler but let him start next year fresh.
I hope next year he will do well somewhere else. Don`t be surprised if he goes to baltimore and wins a superbowl…
I only blame Plummer for the Rams loss….
Dissapointed but hopeful bronco fan
Leebov,
I think that if we wait till next year…we repeat this season. Let Cutler play now to get a feel for the real NFL. Do we want to throw another season down the drain.
I agree w/you comments about the other parts, but I was @ the game and saw several plays Plummer could have made, too. Opening flea-flicker was open and over thrown…could have been huge. Many times plays are there he doesn’t make them.
Leebov has it right, what about the protection issues, dropped balls, and the “no pressure” from our def. front four. You cant blame all this on plummer. Everytime he says hike, lineman are on his eyes…and what does he have to do, run out the pocket and yes, try to force something. The flew flicker was grat (thanks to TIVO) but again someone got through, and it became a rush throw (look at the play again). Plus, why in the world would we throw it to a tight end?
Look Im a plummer fan but hey I do realize its Cutlers time next year. FIne! But you put him now to “get a feel for next year”. What are you saying give up this year? Hes going to have growing pains. Get real people, OUR WHOLE TEAM SUXKS except Champ and Elam. No Domination. Lack of concentration and most importnantly confidence.
The broncos, in my opinion, should just play ball. No pressure, we prolly cant win the division, get a bye, or win first place in the AFC. Its time to rest and come back with no pressure in mind.
besides, if we put Cutler in now…..he gets hurt, THEN WHAT?
Ask plummer to come back in? HA….you know what happens then?
For whatever reason, Jake just is not getting it done. Worse yet is the fact that he regularly hangs the recievers out to dry. In other words, he puts the ball in a place that more often than not, the reciever is gonna get creamed.
If you look closely at the film, you’ll notice how touchdown opportunities are being missed simply because Jake ‘missed’. When Javon reached behind him to pull in a sideline pass, the defender was able to bump him out of bounds. If that pass had led Javon in stride, it’s very possibly a big play TD. And that’s only one example.
Jake, you’re a good guy, but the time has come to step back and re-evaluate what’s happening to your game. Take a back seat for now. Be a team guy by helping Jay get his game face on. Help us win by helping him win. At seasons end, you can assess your options, including other offers that will surely be enhanced by your ‘team first’ approach to this current and difficult situation.
Jay, it’s your team now. Take this baby and make it humm like Biff did.
You’ve got a great team around you, and a coaching staff that is second to none. The fans are eager and excited about you, and for you. Why not be the first rookie QB to win a Super Bowl ? With just 5 games left ?!!
Just do it baby !
Just a foot note…could we be missing Kube that much?
I can’t say Plummer played a perfect game, but as was pointed out, we don’t seem to have a running game any more. When we had Tatum and Mike, and Nash, they were trading off and the D had a harder time keeping up with the ball. Now it seems it’s Mike Bell every time and they stop him easily.
On Sunday’s game against the Chargers, and last night, Plummer had several passes that should have been received early on, and these were passes that Walker or Smith could easily pulled in. With all the passes that don’t get pulled in, it’s no wonder there are a few bad ones in later on. Shanahan’s playbook could be updated a bit. The plays that were working are getting stale and they don’t have anything new. They need to change it up a bit so they aren’t so predictable.
Agreed on the defense. They have gone from the number one with only 2 touchdowns allowed to the 5th or 6th games of the season, to a joke with one or two members that remember how to tackle. Lynch was doing well early on, but last night I don’t think I saw him make a play. Champ is the only one left doing anything and he can’t be everywhere at once. Is it possible KC just all had teflon coated jerseys?
And one last comment on the NFL network. They need to get rid of Dumbell as soon as possible. He couldn’t get names right, didn’t know what the score was at halftime, and they really need to cut the crap speculating what Shanahan is going to do with Plummer. One mention was enough, I think they brought it up about 50 times during the game. Bad enough they badmouth the team every day, now they have to berate individual players as well.
Happy Holidays,
Bill
Guys this choice is simple. Jake is a good quaterback, and i was glad to have him on the team. However, he can only take us so far. Our teams problem is that the ball is not consistantly moved down the field. Even if we don’t score points, we have to move the ball. We have too many 3 and outs to be a serious contender. Other teams move the ball that’s why they win. Their defense gets a chance to rest. I have watched games where our D made a big play and got us the ball back, and had to get right back on the field in 3 plays. Mike Bell plays well at times, but he’s not consistant either. This is not to say that Tatum or Nash is better, because i feel Mike gives us the best chance to win.
If Cutler is put in as the starter and he moves the ball consistantly where we can us that record holding kicker of ours more often, we will be in better shape against teams like Indy and San Diego. if we can beat Tom Brady on a consistant basis, then Peyton and LT should take the same loss. We cannot do that with Jake. If putting in Cutler is conceeding the season, then so is leaving in Jake. Jake has proved that he can only take us so far plus his nunbers in a good game are like most QB’s on an off night. That won’t win champoinships.
there are many problems with the o and d but the biggest problem on the o is that there is no running game to speak of at the most important times. i watch everygame denver plays and jake does make mistakes but there is more problems with the fact that the line gives jake no time, recievers are dropping the ball and the playbook that consists of 20 plays and everything else is added on. jake is not a dazzler but he goes out there and puts 100% into everygame. the o-line has to do better in pass protection jake is having to move around almost every play and alot of the times throw off his back foot because he cant see anything. i think everyone should look around the lockeroom including shanahan and figure out what they can do better. go broncos
Fire Jake Plummer. He had his chance this year, and has failed us. It’s time to cut our losses and move on. It’s Jay’s turn.
ok, here is the thing. our entire offense is exactly that… off. we cant blame it all on jake, but i have noticed over the last several years, ie the plummer era, that jake struggles to win the tough/close games. our running game is weak, and inconsistent, but i also think that may have something to do with not having a true starter. and what ever happened to the cut back? that used to be our bread and butter, now it looks like we dont even remember what a cut back is. our o line is having a BAD year. and i think that is affecting all areas of our offense. but ultimately we need someone that makes us (fans and broncs) feel like we can win again. we have lost that swagger, that confidence! teams dont fear us! they know that all they have to do is score 17 pts and they have a pretty good chance of winning!! we need a spark, and i think Cutler can give us that! at least we will have hope!
go broncs
ps YES … nfl channel’s commentary sucked big time!
We are definitely fighting for our playoff lives at this point. It was very hard to sit and watch us get beaten by what I believe isn’t as good a team as we are. I think it will be tough to get Cutler ready for the Seattle game, but a change is in order. Plummer hasn’t been good enough this season to keep the starting job. He hasn’t been good at all to say the least. Forget the rookie stereotypes and lets play football. Their are many things we could do better as a team. Special teams is one thing that comes to mind. The coverage has to get better. We sit at 7-4 and have a shot for a wildcard, but the rest of the schedule looks scary. We can’t really take the Card’s or 49ers for granted as certain wins, but we can hope for a wildcard at 10-6 I think at the least. We must get more production on offense, and I believe that Cutler can make the throws to utilize our wr’s. Walker and Smith are very good, and have to be frustrated. Let’s get it together and finish this year on a playoff run, because we aren’t far from contending once again. We also owe the Chargers one for that comeback embarassment. Al Wilson and Champ will get the guys fired up I know. Thanks and Go Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!
plummer sucks ass
everybody keeps talking about a wildcard when we still have a shot at the division, especially if we win outright and play chargers again….as for plummer, ive been a huge fan of his, but he doesnt look like the plummer of old, but i cant put my finger on it….the play calling sucks..we used to use bootleg where jake is at his best, and these past weeks hes been dropping back and using 4 wr sets….and as for the defense, i agree that nobody knows how to tackle but put a shoulder out…..practice should be in full pads and practice tackling… I cant handle another loss…not a good time to put rookie in when we are still 7 and 4…if Jake doesnt play well in first half of seattle game then throw cutler in, but give him some first team reps this week so hes ready…..denverforlife……..GO BRONCOS………….
I think they should start Jay culter, he has a strong arm and a rare ability that very few players have. besides you guys are wrong. some of PLummers passes were high, low, behind the recievers, or just horrible accuracy throws. i have been a J Plummer fan for a long time, but latley im kind of giving up on him, not all the way yet but it’s getting there. but Mike Shanahan knows what he’s doing, and maybe it is just the media, or maybe it is real, but if Plummer is the starter, he is going to have to make 3RD DOWN CONVERSIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! thats where you make your money as a quarterback…… does anybody not agree with me. well thats all i got to say.
GO DOLPHINS!!!! GO MARTY BOOKER!!!
I curse at the screen everytime I watch Plummer make a stupid play. I used to say that Griese was the most useless quarterback and Plummer was the second most useless quarterback in the league next to him. So I was real happy when we signed him. Really we all just got spoiled by Elway and we’re not going to be happy with any quarterback. I’ve yeld at the TV a hundred times this year to pull Plummer. But the fact of the matter is that he has been winning and I liked the emotion he showed after the game. It’s the first time he’s impressed me. Cutler is not going to do a better job than Plummer this year and the team is going to play a lot harder for Plummer. The defense needs to get it together and start playing ball again. We’re 7-4 and we’re going to play well enough down the stretch to make the playoffs. P.S. Now maybe Terrell will get the credit he is do. Any running back fits into the system eh? Put him in the Hall.
Jake had is time and nothing was produced. The last game aginst K.C. was just as bad as the loss aginst pitt. in the playoff’s last year. Not to say that the “D” played to par. I have never seen a so called #5 ranked “D” play like a bunch of pee wee’s. I was alway’s taut to tackle at the feet, NOT the shoulder’s. Anyway as for jake, I’m a die hard BRONCOS FAN set your no good butt on the bench and learn from a rookie how to throw the ball and win football game’s. I bet the rookie don’t wear a glove!!!!!
delux304 if Cutler plays and gets hurt we have Jake and Cutler has a year to heal. If Cutler doesn’t play we have Jake, Cutler sits and nobody knows what he will do in a regular season game. Think before you write. This is all about confidence. The team doesn’t have confidence in Jake. Time after time when Elway was playing, a player would say after the game, “I looked at John and knew we were going to do it”. The team doesn’t have that confidence in Jake. That energy, emotion, swagger, whatever you want to call it, is the difference between winning and losing when two good teams play. Fans can supply the “we have confidence in you” energy. Thats part of home field advantage. It’s not just disrupting the other team with noise. If Cutler makes the easy accurate throws and converts some of the 3rd and 3-4′s the running game IS getting. Everybody will gain confidence, get into rhythm, keep the D fresh, give opposing O less chances. Denver has a SYSTEM. With a QB that passes accurately, the system works better. Denver needs a QB that can consistantly make a read, quickly find 1 of 3 or 4 receivers and make the short throw to keeps the chains moving and the clock running. And occasionally go up the field the keep D’s honest. We have all seen the system won’t win the big game with an inconsitant QB. Keep the O on the field and the rhythm comes, the RB’s find the holes and cuts. Receivers find the open zones or beat a CB. The line learns to work together. The other teams D gets tired. This isn’t hard to figure out. If the QB is consistantly over throwing, underthrowing, throwing ahead of, or behind receivers, the O is not going to stay on the field. Against KC, Denvers average field position was the 27. They needed 7 first downs(less if there was a big play) to score. An inconsistant QB won’t get the 3 1st downs( half running half passing) the passing game will need to get to score. The way to get the O playing better is to keep them on the field. Jake isn’t doing that. I think Jake has done that to an extent, but I don’t have confidence that he will do it on a regular basis. If I can see that, the people who know and play the game every week can see it.
good questions being raised, here are some points
1-i think we are missing Kubiak alot, I havent seen anything much new brought to the table offensively besides some flea flickers
2-i think we’re missing Mike Anderson badly. I like Mike Bell but he needs to punish the Defense more…kinda like I saw Nash doing against SD a few times last week
3-Im not so sure that the O line is playing badly. I think teams are throwing alot of blitzes at us because they know Jake isnt going to make them pay for it. I cant recall any play this year where Jakes burned a team that blitzed him
4-in all of our losses I have seen the same thing defensively, we dont get to the QB
i agree, we NEED a pass rush from SOMEWHERE!! that is a BIG time problem. jake is inconsistent, inaccurate, untrustworthy, and fans, and SURELY teamates (even if they wont admit it) are losing faith in him. he seems to find more ways to lose the big ones than win em! sorry jake, ive always had your back, but its time to step aside! you wanna win? put cutler in!!
yeah put cutler in for you fake bronco fans can boo him its all about team. let Elway go. Give jake 15years to win a super bowl. you people arent real Broncos fans. Peace out
we can’t wait 4 more years by that time Jake will be older than the hills, we want to win games and to win a championship right now.
I mean this might be our 4th consecutive year to go to the playoffs, and we keep getting further and further, don’t you people think that this might be OUR YEAR to take the chance and go to the superbowl.
First of all, Mikebellnumba20 needs to shut up..hes a poser that apparently likes the Dolphins. I think that we should try Cutler for a game and if things do go wrong hopefully jake wont be really mad and take everything out on the field when he plays. Then as someone said earlier we took Elway for granted and arent used to having qb’s like Plummer throwing passes behind, to high, to low, i know that it was in one game and he has his better ones too, and that Elway wasnt always perfect either but he was great. Then there is this option; let Plummer play the first half of the Seattle game and if he messes up and isnt doing all that great, put Cutler in for the second half.
well, i guess thats its not really that we took Elway for granted its that we were just soo used to having a really good qb, then we go to Griese, then we went alittle better to Plummer, we just arent going to meet anyone to match Elway, he was easily the best qb for the Broncos and always will be.
i got to go to bed its passed my bed time….GO BRONCOS!!!!
I am not totally sold that Plummer is solution or the problem. There have been loses that you can’t blame Jake, where he played his butt off. There have been games that you are saying Jake what are you doing. I am not the biggest Plummer fan but the whole team has lost our “MOJO” fore say. The defense was so tough starting the season now we give up big plays, miss tackles, get no turnovers (when we need them the most), we don’t get any stops on third down, and biggest we are giving up touchdowns instead of field goals like we were early. ( I would rather not give up any points.) I understand that Jake and the offense has put the defense in horrible situations in the last few games; but they do the same thing when the opponent starts inside their own 20 yard line and they put together a great 80+ yard drive. The defense is no where near what they were talked up to being right now anyway. The offense line is non-existent and with that goes the pass protection and the running game. I understand there has been some injuries but that is why there is backups, good backups. Special teams are Special but the wrong meaning of special. ( not Special at all.) I thought the loss of Kube was not going to be a big deal. We still had Shanahan the great offensive mind. Well the two page play book is not working. Like someone said earlier we need more plays. Example the San Diego game went to prevent offense in the second half. We took our foot off the accelerator or off the Chargers throat. This is an example of not Jake’s fault. The plays that are being called have some to do with it. ( To the coaching staff lets open it up more we are suppose to have one of the most threatening running games in the NFL and a great deep threat in Javon lets use them) SO the blame can be put from the top down to the water boy. I read an article that stated ” Shanahan has had to tone the offense down to eliminate Jake’s mistakes.” If this is case which something has happened to all the pages in the playbook then this makes my case for a Jay Cutler start. You look at Dallas which I hate Dallas. Look where they were, the same thing Offense line not blocking, no running game, and a pretty good defense that was getting socked in the gut like our Defense. Then Tony Romo came in and it gave the whole team a new attitude. Our team needs a lift and maybe, no Cutler will give the team a lift. If Cutler can just do a few things like keep the offense on the field for maybe six plays instead of three plays, and get points whether 3 or 6. The defense gets their swagger back and they will be able help carry a young rookie quarterback. Cutler was said to be one of the best in this years NFL combine and look at the success that the other rookie QB or young first time starting QB (Romo and Rivers) are having already. If Young and Leinart had our defense (playing the way they are capable of playing) who knows what their record would be. We need to shake up something the way things are going isn’t working.
WE need a lift Go Broncos!!!
Go Cutler!!!
Thanks Jake but you have done all you can do I think!!!
Go Broncos!
I agree with trying Cutler out. If Plummer is not happy with that, then he needs to take a look at the career he has chosen. Football is a team sport.
In my opinion, we also stayed with Griese way too long.
Elway had the talent, the passion, and incredible football sense. Hard to capture his essence in stats alone, as he was a great leader, and inspiried his team.

It’s weird how we can sit here and complain so much, but it is true. We do need to have our deffence make tackles, like in the Kansas City game, everyone was trying to go for Lary Johnson’s legs when they just needed to hit him. and then once again, Plummer needs to make the passes, im not going to blame it all on him either but then there is Mike and Tatum, we need to run them alot more and then need to get some rushing yards. We have only seen Cutler play in the Preseason games where all the teams have out their secondary in and they arent as good as starters ofcourse but Cutler threw only 1 pick, he had 4 touchdowns in 4 games and had somewhere like 42-59 or something i saw that on ESPN a few weeks back so im not sure, but his QB rating was 108. Sure that is only Preseason but we NEED to try him out and if Plummer cant live with that then there is somethng wrong.
I am disappointed to see so many fair weathered fans of Jake Plummer. I am sure all of you cheering to replace him were also the ones cheering when he was winning but now that he is in a slump, you want to boot him. Shame on you. I have been a Denver fan for over 22 years and we have had our ups and downs but we always come back. Jake is great. Denver losing is not solely on his shoulders. It is a team sport…you lose as a team and you win as a team. If the media would stay out of it and just let them play, it would be better. To Bill who stated the comment about NFL Network and the commentators—you are so right. If I could have reached through the TV to Chris Collinsworth, I would have choked him. If that is the only thing he can talk about and it wasn’t anything to do with the game itself, he shouldn’t be announcing. To sum it up, I love the Denver Broncos…is there any other team to cheer for? I stand behind Jake Plummer…he is our starter and he can recover…he needs positivity and the support of his teammates and fans. Jay Cutler may have some talent, but he needs to be groomed right now and learn the ways of the NFL before getting a starting job. Stick with Jake Plummer and give him the positivie support he needs.
ialuvsden,
Just to reply to your post. I have never been a real Jake fan. SOmething had change when Griese was here. Glad to see a change but it was not the solution. We need a change again. When drafting a QB that high in the draft I think that everyone is sensing a changing of the guard. I think it will give the team a boost and swagger we need and are.
I’m a big Plummer fan, but let’s admit, the time for change has come. I see all of the comments in defense of Plummer and the dropped passes on Thursday were certainly glaring errors. But they also spoke volumes about the team’s confidence in Plummer – they have given up on him.
Case in point – list any passes that Plummer through on Thursday where he hit his receiver in stride. Thoughout that game Plummer missed great opportunities by throwing behind receivers or over them completely. He missed an easy third down in the second half after avoiding a sack by throwing the pass in the ground in front of the receiver. This was not an isolated incident – Plummer has been missing receivers all season long – especially on long passes. I don’t know how many touchdown opportunities that I’ve seen blown this year because Plummer either threw too long or short on the big bomb with a receiver wide open downfield. I’m tired of watching other games where quarterbacks hit those passes for big gains or touchdowns.
The lack of a rushing attack hurts too, there’s no doubt about it. But seriously, since no one is respecting the deep pass, it’s easy to key in on the run. Every team is playing very agressive inside of ten yards since Shanahan has watered down the offense so much to cater to Plummer’s inadequacies. With extra players up front, the backs often have no where to go, even when there’s a hole to run through. Until Plummer can prove to teams that he can win a game by throwing 35 times or more, can work the bootleg effectively etc., the run will be nowhere in sight.
Plummer just doesn’t have it right now. Does anyone actually feel confident that Plummer can lead a fourth quarter comeback right now? I certainly don’t, and I don’t think Plummer does either. Look at the fourth quarter performance in the last two games and you’ll see what I mean. Both of those games could have been won in the fouth quarter if we had a quaterback with some composure and confidence. Even if Cutler can’t do this right away, I’m OK with it. I honestly believe there is little difference between Plummer and a rookie right now, especially with the offense watered down so much.
It’s time for the Cutler era to begin – bring it on…
I jumped off the Plummer bandwagon last week, and it all basically comes down to the play of the other starters around him. The dropped passes and poor defensive effort all stems from Plummer’s ineffective play. Our defense makes an inspired turnover just to watch Plummer lead the offense to a 3 and out. The recievers drop passes because they are not inspired to play for Plummer. They are more used to seeing poor throws and poor decisions of Plummer than they are used to seeing a good throw come their way.
I think the Broncos are looking at a change similar to the one that took place in Dallas a few weeks ago. The complexity and chemistry of the team(the ENTIRE team) changed 180 degrees with one roster move. Romo in place of Bledsoe. I feel sorry in a way for Plummer because he is a nice guy and a good person…but the Denver media has eaten him alive. He should know now that he will be much better off getting out of Denver and moving on to bigger and better things elsewhere.
I cannot wait to watch Sunday’s game…although I do expect Cutler to play a little sloppy his first time out, but no matter the outcome I think after this Sunday’s game he will be on his way to greatness.
I support Jake 100%, but I also support Shannahan 100%. I also know that Cutty is the future, and the future does have to start some time. This season is an emotional roller coaster, I just want whats best for the Broncos and right now the only thing that will help is victories. If we start getting them then all will calm…

im still wondering if there is any substance to the rumor about plummer being benched in favor of cutler. is this just speculation? or does someone ACTUALLY know? i personally have never been more ready for a change! go cutler, go broncos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guys, let be fair to Jake and Jay. I would say who has a better practice against first team defense and gives our team a best chance to win a game will start the game.
Let us start by saying that I am not the biggest Plummer fan in the world, but it aint all his fault for the poor play on both sides of the ball. There is a defense that my 8 year old daughter could run through, on offensive line which is just offensive to say the least and recievers for some reason that couldn’t catch a cold let alone a pass. Then there is Plummer who couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. With all these problems everyone thinks a change of quarterback will make everything right, try again.
I have read the comments by several others about what Romo did for Dallas and how it changed things there. What everyone is forgetting to say is that Romo has been there for 3 years he is not a rookie being thrown to the wolves. If you want to make comparisons do it by using rookie QB’s Lienhart has won one game even though his coming in was supposed to be the catalyst Arizona needed. He even has to of the best wideouts in the NFL and a future hall of famer at running back to bad he has a pourous offensive line and no defense to speak of. Vince Young has won 3 games, he is a great athlete but the there is no support to speak of on either side of the ball. Lets face it folks unilt the team pulls there heads out of their respective butts and start playing football the way they should it wont matter who is QB.

What everyone is forgetting to say is that Romo has been there for 3 years he is not a rookie being thrown to the wolves. Romo had time to learn the system. If you want to make comparisons do it by using rookie QB’s Lienhart has won one game even though his coming in was supposed to be the catalyst Arizona needed. He even has 2 of the best wideouts in the NFL and a future hall of famer at running back to bad he has a pourous offensive line and no defense to speak of. Vince Young has won 3 games, he is a great athlete but the there is no support to speak of on either side of the ball. If Cutler gets the start next week there is no guarantee that the Broncos will play any better and everyone should be prepaired for the rookie mistakes that Cutler will make.
Lets face it folks unilt the team pulls there heads out of their respective butts and start playing Bronco football the way they should it wont matter who is QB. Personally do I think Cutler is a better QB? YES YES and YES but the thing every Bronco fan has to remember is that Cutler is not Elway and never will be so we shouldn’t compare him to Elway like we have the other QB’s Denver has had since.
alright let cutler play stop saying jake is the best cutler can’t do any worse and RANDY MOSS MIGHT JION THE BRONCOS AT SEASON END!!!!!!!!!
Okay I will agree to some extent the both sides of the ball have been horrid as of late, and special teams is even worse (with the exception of Elam) but lets look back at the last two losses. First the San Diego game score at the half 14 – 7 Denver, Final score 35-27. So what does this tell me? I think that the offense is not giving the defense any rest. They go in there and go 3 and out. By the time it gets to late in the 3rd and and 4th Qtrs the D is tired. Who is to blame for the offensive struggles? Plummer is the leader of the offense. He is supposed to be the one they turn to. Okay so you say the O line is lazy, slacking, and the running game is no good. Well think about this with out a pass theat we become one dimensional and the defense can key on our runningbacks and force Plummer to beat them and he can’t do it as of late. Now lets take a look at the KC game. Score at the Half 10 – 3 KC, final 19 – 10. Once again, lack of offensive production. I have to say the Defense did pretty good to give up that kind of rushing yardage and only give up 19 points. If we can’t depend on a 10 year vet to produce a game winning drive why not put in a Rookie and at least enjoy the game. If someone is going to make poor decisions and give the game away it may as well be “The future” and lets get ready for next season. I however believe that by putting in Cutler it is not giving up on the season. It is trying to cause an offensive spark and maybe just maybe score more than 20 points in a game on a regular basis. Plummer made a good living on moving out of the pocket and throwing the ball so to say the O line is not giving him a chance and he has to move and throw well isn’t that what he did so well last year and has now apperantly forgotten how to do it? Plummer is having a bad season why can’t we all realize that and Jump on the train and support the Decisions made by Shany? After all he is the best Coach we have had in my Era. (since the 90′s)
It is always tough to bench a QB with a team having a winning season and in playoff contention. Also, I know one player was not the solely responsible for the Broncos’ recent losses. However, I do believe that the team has already reached the proverbial glass ceiling with the Snake at the helm. Most likely Cutler will not be the “miracle man” that people in Dallas are claiming Romo has been, but the Bronocs have the ability/potential for more with Cutler as opposed to the Snake. Shananhan knows what he is doing out there. I cannot believe that so-called Broncos fans can quenstion him and his play calling. As any knowledgeable football fan/former player/coach knows, the playing calling must be tailored to the personnel on hand. There are successful “systems” out there, but you cannot fit a square peg into a round hole. The limited playbook is a direct result of the limits on the Snake’s abilities. I commend the Snake for playing to the best of his potential, but he has maxed out already. Cutler has much more upside, so although he may initially struggle, there will be many more plays available due to his talent.
On another note, I am absolutely furious with the defensive line. Our front 4 has been doing absolutely nothing for the defense. The lack of pressure on the opposing QB puts much more pressure on the linebackers and secondary to remain in coverage. I know I hate to be negative towards my team, but I cannot stand the play of the denfensive line. It’s almost pathetic. I would say the Denver front 4 has to be one of the worst three in the NFL. If ESPN, SI, and others are going to say that the Snake is statistically one of the worst in the league and deserves to be benched, how do we, as Broncos fans, allow the D-line to get away without their due criticism?
Just my $0.02
I agree, there is a lot wrong with our team. And a lot of it is probably due to us no longer having Kubiak call the plays. Don’t diss the defense, though. Because when our offense is not producing, the D has to work twice as hard and have to make the plays to win. If they can not trust in their offense, then they are going to try to strip the ball and hopefully run a fumble for a touchdown. The entire offensive performance can be decided upon by your quarterback. It is all in the mind. If the other offensive players can not trust the quarterback to make plays, this will effect their play. If they constantly worry about interceptions, this will effect their play. Cmon people, Jake Plummer has the WORST quarterback rating in the league…that means bottom of the barrell, number 31…how can you say he is playing well or that things are not his fault with that stat? I also agree that the running game needs to improve. However, it seems like our coaches abandon the running game way too often and too early in the game. Plus, the Bell’s are not big enough to be sent up the middle, so why do the coaches keep trying that play? If they are going to go up the middle, they need to send the fullback. And they need to do with the Bell’s what they did last year with the other running backs…change them up throughout the game. However, the biggest problem I can see with the running game, compared to last year, is last year we had at least one larger running back and this year we have two fairly small running backs. So, maybe the coach should have the Bell’s switch time with a full back instead of with each other. Who knows. All I know is, they system was not working with Plummer, so let’s see how it works with Cutler. I don’t see us losing anything by starting Cutler, but I can see us losing the rest of the season with Plummer at the helm. And I love Plummer…I was so happy when they aquired him and it pains me to see his play so off this year. Maybe this break will help him shape up his game…who knows!!!
I have agreed with Shannahan’s desion to keep Jake in until I saw how nervous he was looking before the game. Jake’s consistency has been an issue since he arrived. When Jake threw that INT on the first drive I had a feeling it would be a long night. Later in the second half some passes where dropped and Jake could be seen arguing with Shannahan and I knew it was the last of Plummer. Football is a team sport that starts with the Quaterback as leader. If Cutler can thow Deep Accurate Passes to his wide recievers it will open up the rest of the offense. Plummer has missed many a big play and if the Broncos are going to make the playoffs now is the time for a change. The rest of the team had better take a deep look inside or BIG changes will be comming next year. If the Defense can’t start to step it, Champ will be leaving. He was a one man show last week. The O-Line needs to step up as well. The NFL network commentators were the worst ever. My 2 cents.
One more thing.. Good Luck to Jake because there is a spot for him as a backup in the NFL.
Will everyone still agree with the decision if we end up missing the playoffs this year? I didn’t see any of the preseason games, so I haven’t seen Cutler play at all, but I can’t see putting a rookie in when we would be in the playoffs if it ended today. I think this is the first time I’ve ever agreed with something John Madden said — that considering we are still in the playoff hunt he would stick with the veteran.
With that said, I’d rather have a playoff team with a new quarterback than miss out with a veteran. I guess we’ll see next week against Seattle and then at San Diego. One thing we have going for us is that the final five teams we play are all in the bottom half of the league in pass defense. And hopefully the running game doesn’t leave Jay hung out to dry.
Just a little comment here from a seasoned Bronco fan…. Since I was 8, sitting at the foot of my dad’s recliner, watching the “Orange Crush”, eating peanut m&m’s, drinking Mountain Dew (the strongest we had in the house)(I always got favortism from my dad, being the only football loving daughter out of 5 daughters) I always LOVED the controversey about the Donkey’s (term of endearment from my dad). There has very seldom been complete agreement ANY season that I can remember. I can recall VERY WELL the newspaper articles AGAINST J.Elway being at the helm. He also had his bad days and his critics!! I’m sure if you asked HIM, he would tell you that there were many times he was nervous if he would have a job come next Sunday. People were always screaming to put Kubiak in when Elway had an off game. Aren’t we glad that Johnny wasn’t replaced when he wasn’t producing? This is not to say that I think J.P. should stay in… I have been struggling in my own mind with the pro’s and con’s> Plummer vs. Cutler. It’s a hard call in some ways… especially coming from someone who moved FROM Denver to Boise (Jake’s hometown)… seeing all the support from the people here (and I am telling you there are a LOT of Denver Bronco fans here!) for Plummer. It’s a little sad to see him benched but “For the good of the team” I definately understand. My husband (a friend of Jake’s and former high school football DE against him) and I argue all the time about it… but now the arguing should be put behind us as we settle in with a new starting quarterback, and give Jay Cutler all our support. Let’s all give Cutler the support he needs to feel confident that the fans are glad he is here and we can’t wait to be in the playoffs once again!!
Come on bronco fan!!! I’m sorry I’m not a Jake fan!!! He tried to do his part but when the game gets rough Jake always finds a way to choke in the big games!! I’ve been saying it for a long time that they should have started Cutler and was very happy when he was drafted because we needed a quarterback!!! I appreciate the things his done so far but it’s about time couch saw the light and it was a great move. I’v been a bronco fan for as long as I could watch football and I’m 32 years old. GO CUTLER!!!! I hope take the lead and does a great job for all those doubters!! Alway’s a bronco fan a heart!!!
