As the Broncos hoped, the status on Travis Henry and Selvin Young remained quo as they went through Friday’s practice. They both fully participated in the session, and are each listed as probable for the game.
Henry’s off-the-field status also remains unchanged, Head Coach Mike Shanahan said after the 90-minute practice, which took place in sub-freezing temperatures.
“I haven’t heard a thing,” Shanahan. “There’s been rumors. I haven’t heard anything. It’s just speculation. I think it started with the NFL Network; they came out with something, but we haven’t heard a thing.”
The wait for a ruling on Henry’s appeal — which he made a fortnight earlier in Phoenix — isn’t a distraction, Shanahan said.
“When it happens, it happens,” Shanahan said.
While Henry and Young are expected to play, running back Andre Hall was ruled out with a high ankle sprain — the injury through which he played last Sunday. He was the only Bronco not to practice on Thursday or Friday.
Two Broncos are listed as questionable — wide receivers Glenn Martinez and Javon Walker. Martinez did not miss any practice time this week, while Walker saw full work Thursday and Friday after being limited on Wednesday.
Fellow wide receiver Brandon Stokley is listed as probable after suffering a knee bruise Sunday; he did not practice Wednesday but had full work on Thursday and Friday.
Meanwhile, in Oakland, quarterback Daunte Culpepper did not practice Friday; he is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. Josh McCown, who started for the Raiders at Denver in September, is listed as probable with a left finger injury and made it through the full practice Friday.

Culpeper didn’t practice and McCown is questionable with a finger injury. Does this mean we could see Russel for the first time?
Anyway, it’s good to see that we’re getting people back.
Mr. Mason, can you give us some idea what the “rumors” about Henry are that Shanahan alluded to?
I’m bummed to hear about Hall. Finding out about his injury makes his Chicago performance all the more impressive. That is a tough guy. I am on the fence about Henry. I know he is a proven commodity, but I think Young and/or Hall (and Mike Bell, even though I know he has fallen out of favor) have the potential to be great backs for us if given the opportunity. I worry about Young’s history of injuries, but he is dynamic when healthy. When I look at Hall, especially his long run in the Titans game, I see some very TDesque traits that I can’t quite put my finger on.
Rumors that there would be an imminent announcement of a resolution on Henry’s status. So far, nothing.
I see…thanks for the quick response. The rumors weren’t about the actual ruling, but just that one was imminent?
Hey Andrew any idea if we can purchase those jersey-hoodies the players practice in? Thanks.
Andrew, where are all the after practice conferences from Friday?? It usually doesn’t take that long for them to be posted..
UPDATE IT!
vegasbronco42:
That is correct. According to multiple sources, it was reported on NFL Network Wednesday that the ruling was coming within 24 hours. Then the Rocky Mountain News reported a decision was coming Friday. Obviously, as Shanahan said today … nothing as of yet.
JaysusCutler:
As far as I know, they are not made for public sale — although judging by the comments this week, perhaps they should be. I think the Broncos might be the only team that has these for their players, but if you see any other practice pics of guys on other teams with the sweatshirt-type jerseys, let me know.
beast#7:
A part of me feels I’ve worked too many hours this week and had too little sleep to dignify your all-caps screaming with a response. But there were no press conferences today. A couple of brief interviews — one off-camera, one for the piece on Domonique Foxworth — and that was it. Our multimedia producer, Kasey Byers, works extremely hard to get many pieces up. Was having two packages on the Man of the Year and community endeavors, two press conferences from Wednesday, five locker-room interviews from Wednesday and Thursday and produced stories on Brandon Marshall and Travis Henry not enough for you?
Sorry, readers, but this person used the all-caps on me before. I’m exhausted, I’ve been sick the last three days, I’ve averaged less than five hours of sleep a night this week when I can barely function with less than 7 1/2, and he/she just stepped on my last nerve. More work to do when I get home … now I just need to close the laptop and back away, muttering “Serenity now … serenity now.” (I’ll take the “insanity later” part so long as I get peace for the moment.)
Mr. Mason:
Get the sleep. You deserve it. You are, in many cases, our only source of information on matters important to Bronco Fans everywhere. You do a damn fine job and I appreciate it. I am in remote Alaska and getting any information is difficult. Keep up the good work.
Darn!!! Can’t believe Hall is out. As far as I’m concerned he has been the best kept scret for the Broncos up to this point. He runs with a Combo of Speed and POWER!!!!! He and Young are our two best backs. Don’t believe Henry is 100% and has played all year hurt. Not so sure he can be affective this year in his condition. And that also depends on the leagues ruling on his pending/possible suspension. Jus want to make one comment. I was so upset about the Chicagao game. What a sad state of affairs. Would anyone agree, that the reason the Patriots do what they do is for the this very reason. Some may say that it’s shows no class. I say when you have a team realing, up against the ropes, with a 14 point lead you go for the knock-out. You don’t stand back let them regain thier composer and get knocked out. With the exception of the Eagles game, I have to say, the Patriots have the right Idea. All of the conservative BS is getting old. Our defense still can’t be trusted to play a full game, so why not just make sure their is no way for a team to come back. Score, Score, Score, and then Score some more. I think of all the losses the Broncos have learned a very hard lesson from this game. They were dominent 3 quarters of this game. No Doubt about it, they must win out the rest of their games to even scratch the surface of the play-offs. I’ve been impressed with thier improvement as of late. Even the defense has shown some improvement. I do believe the problem this year is the same as last. No pressure on opposing QB’s. It’s apparent in the way Dre Bly and Champ have been exposed this year. Don’t think the scheme is suited for thier abilities. They are lined up to far off the recievers. Also Special teams. WOW!!!!! lets kick it to Hester….. What the hell are ya thinkin? Do you watch the tapes? OK, OK, I’m done. I love the opportunity this site gives us fans, to rant, cheer, and be armchair coaches. Thanks Andrew for the forum to do so.
if for some reason henry or young don’t play, I remember a solid back from last year with the name of mike bell, ring a “bell” to anyone?
Mason, can we expect a full by walker if he does play? Not just 8 plays with 0 catches
LOL @ Meisner! Mike Bell? C’mon! He had a chance to prove himself vs Chicago, but he fumbled on his first carry!! Now he’s in the dog house! This is definitely his last year here.
Travis > Selvin > Andre > Cecil > Bell
Bell got beat by practically everybody who was trying out.
Bell stinks, he’s not solid at all.
IT is real simple win out. We have the talent and we deserve some brakes. Lets win out and we will win th AFC west. This team has shown that it is best when its backs are against the wall. Get healthy, finnish games, upset the Chargers, make play when you have the opp., win out and I truely believe that this team can be special. Go Broncos and Mike should be our coach with Cutler. We will be the new New England.
All I can say is go with Young. Henry should be regarded as fodder for next years draft as should Bailey and Bly. We need top rated Defensive linemen as I said last week. Let’s cultivate our younger DBs and RBs and trade off the dead weight. Go Broncos.
I think I will mention this again. Can we finally get rid of Antonopolous. This guy is killing all of our talent. He has been here way too long and needs a nice good bye ceremony and a ticket out of town. Thanks for all you’ve done but your methods of trainig and conditioning are way out of date and aren’t working. I hope I’m not the only one realizing that this guy is a major part of our problem. We cannot keep guys on the field and healthy with him in charge of our conditioning program.
Odomsfan… You can’t have just referred to Bailey as “dead weight” because that’s insane. I must have misinterpreted what you said. The reason that Bailey has struggled (and keep in mind, Bailey “struggling” is still better than probably 90% of the CB’s in the league) is because his hamstring is messed up and because of our inability to stop the run. He’s biting more on the play-action because if it is a handoff, there’s a much better than average chance that he will have to make the stop. I agree that we need good D-linemen, particularly at DT, as I’ve been very impressed with Dumervil and Crowder, but getting rid of Champ Bailey is just a bad idea… Maybe in a couple years this discussion has some merit, but for now there’s just no logic to it.
Thanks Andrew, I appreciate the info.
we should not get rid of champ bailey for at least 3 more years depending on his health, he is, and will be, the best CB in the league!!! i love the combo wiht him and bly, now if we could jjust stop the run, and get some pressure on the QB in stead of giving him 10 min to throw the ball, thne i think we would see that teams will have alot of trouble throwing againts guys like champ and bly
Jeez, beast7, I guess we should get rid of bell for a fumble. After all, after being inactive almost the whole year, it’s not reasonable to think the guy might make a mistake because he was trying to do too much on his first carry. I’m sure Henry, Young, Hall, Cutler, Sapp, Marshall, and anyone else on the team should also be let go if they fumble ONE TIME. This is the kind of attitude we have forced on every qb since Elway, that the minute someone makes one mistake, they are now worthless. Mike Bell worked his butt off for this team last year. He is going through what has to be an extremely frustrating experience this year, but he remains a team guy. He does everything that’s asked of him, and he has complained rarely, if at all. I personally think the guy deserves a little better than that. He showed last year he is a capable back when he gets some opportunities.
Mason,
You work way too hard to even take the time to respond to jerks like beast#7… forget about them. Its people like that, that make this world just a horrible place, such a lack of respect, patience and appreciation for what other do for them. I, for one, appreciate all that you do for us.
On a lighter note, its too bad about Hall… but if we can have either Henry and/or Young, I’m sure we’ll be fine. It would also be nice if Stokley and Walker could have a solid game as well. I’m sure Cutler is thrilled that he’ll have alot more receivers for this game… he’s turning out to be quite the QB, I’m liking what I see. Sure hope he can stay with us for a VERY long time.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!
Here is a big “Boo” for beast#7 ragging on everyone!!! I’ve read the end of “The Book”. Don’t you know the beast loses…
AM - I agree with 07elway… The squeaky wheels may often get grease, but they are often fewer than we think…
Get well - MOST of us enjoy ALL of your work!!!
call me old fashioned but it makes me sick to even hear you guys talking about ever trading Champ and Dre. I would love to see them finish their amazing careers in Denver…but thats just me. Sorry but Odomsfan, Broncomania, and Beast…you guys are just idiots that no nothing and its obvious…try putting the Madden away cuz its making you believe you know some things about real football…much love to all of the positive fans in here! Andrew…your the man. I have been to plenty of other teams sites and I haven’t seen anyone more active in updating their fans more than you guys! Thanks again.
I’m not ragging on everybody, what the!?!?
vegasbronco42, I’ve never said that he should be gone because he fumbled, but the fact that it was his first carry and his time to prove himself that he can be the back, he ruined it. So this is his last year, for sure. What makes you think he deserves a little better than that? He fumbles and he gets taken out of the game by Shanahan and gets no more carries in the game. People don’t just deserve things, they have to work hard for it, that fumble was not a sign of hard work. Maybe if he didn’t get beat by 2 rookies in the offseason for the 2nd RB position, he would be #2, but since he did get beat he’s not.
He showed last year, but when he had the opportunity to prove himself this year, HE FUMBLED! That’s pathetic. If he really wanted to redeem himself, he wouldn’t have coughed up the ball. He deserves to be cut, he’s not worthy!
It’s not about who fumbles the ball, it’s about when you get that opportunity, don’t mess it up! He messed it up by fumbling. And Shanahan was disgusted!! That’s why he was out for the rest of the game, Cecil did a better job than Bell did.
Also rev79, my nick is beast#7 because John Elway was a beast, way to put Elway down by calling him a loser.
Also Mason, no offense, but your voice is irritating and annoying on the pre-game podcast, I just had to turn it off. It’s one of those creepy nerd voices, all you need is an inhaler whiff to finish it off.
“No offense” is one of the most pointless phrases in the English language. Whether one is offended is not the choice of the person making the statement, but the one at which it is being directed. It’s not about intent; it’s about effect. It’s my choice whether to be offended by your flotsam or not.
beast7, if you want to go back and actually read what I wrote, I explained exactly why I feel Bell deserves better than to have some “expert” calling for him to be cut from a keyboard. Like I said, it’s because of how hard he worked last season and how he has carried himself this year. I don’t want to hear excuses any more than the next guy, but I can understand the guy being rusty due to lack of game activity this year, and being so eager when he finally got a carry that he fumbled because he was trying to fight for the extra yards. I’d give a second chance to a guy like that all day long. By your rationale, as soon as one of the other ’skill’ players fumbles, they should be yanked and never play again, right? That’s pretty solid reasoning, I certainly don’t remember anyone else on the team fumbling, then getting another chance to redeem themselves. Oh, and since you are getting all indignant about stuff, I have to take umbrage at your inhaler comment. I seem to recall T.Davis used some kind of inhaler at one point or another. Following your logic, would he be a “creepy nerd” as well?
And Mason, I will add a hearty thanks to the chorus of people who appreciate the work you do. Waaaaaaaaaaaay more informative and comprehensive than some of the other team sites I’ve seen.
Well said, Andrew!!! Thank you for all that you do… you should start a “National Bloggers Day” so people all over in blog nation can spend a day showing their appreciation for all the hard work, people like you do for us adoring fans!!!
And beast#7… go live in a hole, you’re not welcome here in case you haven’t gotten the hint from most of the other comments. If you’re just going to keep saying all these pointless things about Andrew then go start a blog or website far from here just about that… you make no sense. This is a DENVER BRONCOS website, not a bash Andrew site (not that he cares, good for him) but you’re wasting your time and you’re just making a complete fool of yourself. I’m sick and tired of people like you coming on here, talking crap about basically nothing and wasting Andrew’s time… so again take my advice and go live in a deep dark hole, you know some place where the sun don’t shine!!!
Forgive me, I forgot to sign off - shame on me
GO BRONCOS!!!!
Vegasbronco, that is absolutely not my reasoning, I never said that any guy who fumbles should be cut, I said that Mike Bell should and will be cut because he had a 2nd chance to prove himself, and he fumbled the ball, and he is not a “skill player” at all, if he was he would be a starter right? Not a 4th RB on the depth chart! Don’t get so hyped with mike bell, it’s not about what he did last year it’s what he’s doing this year.
Also you’re taking this logic thing way too far, I say something and you try to make it something else. Don’t do that.
Also vegasbronco42, TD was a football player, a magnificent one at that, while Mason, well his job is giving Broncos fans info and typing up blogs on his computer all day. I’m not calling him a nerd exactly, just someone who knows alot, got it?
beast, I don’t mean to offend you, but I am not making something else out of anything. I am reading exactly what you say. If that’s what you mean, then say it. Don’t call someone a “creepy nerd”…your words, then back pedal and try to make someone else the bad guy. As far as Mike Bell, I understand your point. My point is, the guy has worked as hard as anyone since he’s been with the team, and that can’t just be ignored. One carry, fumble or no, after not getting to touch the ball since training camp is not much of an indicator as far as someone’s body of work. It just saddens me as a lifelong Broncos’ fan to see how quick we are to “throw away” a player. We’ve all seen it repeatedly before. Sadly, I’m sure we’ll see it again and again. Oh, “got it”?
Not to bring up the past, but situations like this always remind me of the fans who talked about how we needed to be done with Elway, so that the “Tommy Maddox era” could begin. Thankfully, we all know how that turned out. Not that I would put Mike Bell anywhere near Elway’s stature, but hopefully you all know what I mean.
VegasBronco, I don’t think he has worked as hard as anyone else on the team, that’s most likely the reason he got switched to the FB position and is a 4th RB on the depth chart. Let’s see, Selvin Young and Andre Hall are fantastic backs who beat Mike Bell for that backup RB position, they deserve it, they worked hard. There’s always a reason for something happening or not happening. There’s a reason he was an undrafted rookie, not saying that anybody who was undrafted is bad or anything. Who are you to say that he’s been working hard? I mean, we hardly hear anything about him off and on the field. So I don’t know where you’re getting this hard worker thing from, if he was a hard worker like you say he is, he would be starting or at least be a #2 back, which he isn’t.
Also, I just check the depth chart for FBs, guess what? Mike Bell is the #3 back, so much for that “hard work” huh? He doesn’t deserve anything, at all. There are more players on this team that deserve it more, according to the depth chart.
What happened last year, happened last year. What matters now is the present, not necessarily the past. We don’t really know what Mike Bell did or didn’t do in the off-season for him to flunk down so far on the depth chart, but we do know that he got beat by selvin young, andre hall, cecil sapp, and paul smith. Players don’t just deserve roles they earn it, obviously mike bell didn’t earn his…
The games we attack on defense we win, the games we don’t we don’t. Broncos bring the heat please!
Trad Champ??? I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Sounds like something a Tampa bay fan would say (John Lynch). I’ll be sick if Champ doesn’t retire a Bronco. Even if he was losing a step, wich he so clearly is not, he brings so much more to the game then just his play on the field. Think how much our up and comming CB are learning by just by having this guy around. If you want to be the best learn from the best.
Champ should definately not go any where.
Andrew we all agree you are doing great work! Thanks!
Broncos, Ok your still my team no matter what, but i have never in over 20 yrs. of watching seen the Broncos have such a breakdown on special teams,, OH MY GOSH” Denver wake up and smell the coffee ,, special teams i’m going to excuse yo ufor the break-down dont let it happen again… now every team is going to me setting up wedges and a corner/free safety on punts,, gime a break special teams reallyh showin they don’t want to make the team Mike bell what happend you had a great day on special teams the weeek before ??? why the suddden collapse, just cuz you wear #30 doesn’t make you star material…
Oh forgot Washing ton sorry bout the loss,, kinda ironic one of your best db’s got shot also, really sorry to hear that.,, what was he thinking staying home after knowing people had broken in 2 days prior to the shooting. again really sory to hear, as a fan of the Broncos it’s a sad day when one of your soldiers goes down, just remembver he’s their in spirit just like Dee Williams,, keep your heads up in D>C. peace out…
beast, your ability to read a depth chart is astounding. Before you ask who I am to make statements on this blog, I am a fan just like you. Have you been to every practice, team meeting, etc this year? Me neither. A depth chart doesn’t automatically tell you who works harder. Talent factors into it, too. Clearly, Young and Hall look more talented than Bell. Based on what I see, such as the effort he gives on special teams, the fact that whenever he is in a game he is going all out all the time, it looks to me like Bell is still working. To issue a blanket statement that he hasn’t earned anything is kind of ignorant. If he was not working, wouldn’t he have been cut in training camp?
My apologies to everyone else who has had to look at our back and forth….
Excuse me Dredhed!!! Calling me an “idiot”, makes you look like a fool. Did you even read my statement or did you just see the name Bailey and Bly and ASSume that I said something about trading them? “Madden” are kidding me? I haven’t earned my knowledge of football by sitting on a sofa playing “Madden”. I love the sport. I’ve played it and I’ve been watching Bronco Football religiously since 1979. I even thanked Mason for the site, where as fans, we have the opportunity to rant, cheer, and be armchair coaches. Somehow I got looped into something so Drehed, please before you go trying to throw me under the bus, read what I say first. Thanks!!!!!! GO BRONCOS, STOMP THE RAIDERS!!!!
Must be a bad year when instead of bannng together, the fans are now fighting with each other. Just a little advice. We can rant and rave, however none of us get paid for our oppinion, nor can our statements really make a difference. Lets remember what this site is for. I think this year has been a dissapointment for most fans. I believe this team will be great, just going through some growing pains this year. I still hate the defensive scheme, however have notice improvement. It’s Broncos @ Raiders today guys, focus on that!!!!!
Atwater8….sounds like you know what your talking about! I completely agree…I would rather bring the heat and give up a big play or two because I think the payoff is usually better. At least it makes for exciting football too. No quaterback in the league, not Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, Brett Favre, Jay Cutler etc….. wants to be getting hit a lot or forced to make quick decisions.
pressure is definitely the key to beating good qb’s…the Eagles almost beat Tom Brady with a lot of disguised blitz and coverage…It just seems to me like we aren’t getting to the qb like we used to especially when we went to the AFC championship.
48, were you being sarcastic when you asked what Taylor was doing staying home? I hope so…
