Disappointed, But Ready for Sunday

September 29th, 2011 - 5:37pm by Rahim Moore

Whenever you lose there’s always a lot of woulda, coulda, shouldas. I was disappointed because of how hard we worked throughout the week and our gameplan was perfect. I just hate losing. I’ve lost before in my career, and it’s not fun.

But how hard we took it just shows how much this team wants Ws. Whenever you play a sport like this, especially with the coaching staff we have, you should expect to win. One thing about individual accolades — sure, you can look good. But when you win, everybody looks good. Our main job is to make Coach Fox look as good as he is. That man deserves wins. He’s, what, the third active coach in wins? We want to get him to number one.

I’m going to tell you one thing about sports. When you play on the road, it shows you how much you really can do. It shows your ability. When you play at home, you feel comfortable. When you’ve got to play on the road in a hostile environment, that brings the most out of you. I love road games.

Of course that means I’m excited for this weekend in Green Bay all the more. You always want to surround yourself with the best, and they’re a great organization historically. It’s going to be a tough challenge for us.

First, I see how Aaron Rodgers makes great decisions. He’s a captain, he’s a leader, and he is just as good as advertised.

Second, hopefully we get guys back like Champ. I miss that dude. Seeing him on the sideline in Tennessee, he needs to be on the field. First of all, with an injury, he doesn’t have to come to away games. But he came anyway, and that just shows you the love of the game he has and the love he has for his teammates. Also I’m anxious for Elvis and everybody else who has been hurt to come back too.

I’m excited for this weekend. It’s gonna be a good one.

No matter contracts, etc. John Fox playing Tebow, would be out of his comfort zone. It goes without saying, that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. With that in mind, the benching of Tebow until he is ready, can be attributed to, 1) contracts 2) Orton is the QB that Fox wants 3) they will wait until Tebow can play the game that Fox wants.

Either way, if Fox is allowed to stay on his high horse, and fail to adapt to the way the game is played today. We will have stability in a fractured franchise, restore some respect, but the wins will not be there.

I do not expect Fox to reinvent himself, not after this many years coaching. Even though a certain Dan Reeves did end up back in the Superbowl without John Elway. Shanahan, probably never will. Wade Philips, well the man wasn’t successful in Denver either. And yes, some of us remember the Philips days as well.

  2. stevecan2 says:

With Fox at HC, I am waiting to see us running from the Wishbone.

  3. brian_schneider says:

Yeah…I “Wish” we could run the ball better and throw Tebow a “bone” and start him. LOL!

  4. royalbroncofan1 says:

Glad to read Marcus Thomas will be back at DT. I believe he’ll be more effective in 4-3 base as we’ve yet to see him this season…(regular).

  5. henryac says:

I said a long time ago that I thought the leadership of the team had a “Tebow” problem. They didn’t draft him, he isn’t the type of QB they want, and the last thing they need to happen is him to play and be successful. Then, they might not get “their:” QB for years. I don’t think it has anything to do with records, playing ego, or any of that crap, John Elway’s legacy is secure as long as there is an NFL and I am sure he knows that. I think it is just another case of a square peg in a round hole. If they play him and he is successful, no new QB in the draft, if they don’t play him, lose, and draft a QB anyway, they get crucified in the press and by the fans for not giving him a chance. Their only chance out of this mess is to play him and have him fail but that would destroy any trade value he would have for next year. What to do, what to do!

    Broncos 31

side prediction….Tebow will see this game in some capacity!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  7. brian_schneider says:

Like I said in the past the biggest reason why Tebow might fail as a QB in the NFL is because no one will give him a chance. Its not because he’s not coachable, or that he doesn’t work hard, or that he doesn’t have the talent, he’s smart and he can learn and adjust to the speed of the NFL. If Tebow fails it won’t be because he didn’t give everything he’s got to try and succeed.

  8. henryac says:

Brian, I agree. I hate to make this prediction and I hope I am completely wrong. Somebody, somewhere will give the kid a chance and he will succeed, but I don’t believe it will be with Denver!

  9. stevecan2 says:

The current staff is still learning. It will take time, but what I will not stand for, is running up the gut, get stopped. Run up the gut again, get stopped, run up the gut, get stopped. That should not take long to figure out. We cannot just pound the ball in between the tackles and hope for the best. First half, we were stuffed up the middle. Second half, we kept running up the gut and continued to get stuffed. It’s the little adjustments that I am looking for first and foremost. It shows an absolute inability to adapt, when second half adjustments are not made. Where I do, see hope is that the 4th and 1 go, seemed completely out of character for the snore fest that we are, but it showed just a glimpse that maybe, JF does have something deep down, that can be daring.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

Henryac and Brian have got it pretty much nailed for now, hence the famous QQ.

  11. brian_schneider says:

Being predictable is one thing, but being predictable to the point where the defense doesn’t need to play honest is a whole other thing. Last week 4 shots in the redzone, 4 shots up the gut, 4 times the door slammed in our face. Why…because the defense knew we were only going to try and pound it up in there. The d-line went low, the LBs went high…stuffed. If we would’ve had a TE or FB out in the flats or in the endzone it would’ve been an easy 6 pts. Every team is predictable because every team watches tape and knows their tendencies and stuff. We can no longer be predictable allowing the defense to not play honest. That’s where the adjustments need to be made.

  12. HardHitting27 says:

Anyone see the Kiszla article in the Denver Post today. “Real QB problem? It’s Tebow Envy” Talking about Elway not letting Tebow play because he’s jealous.
    Good read.

While I don’t buy the Elway being jealous thing, I have thought the same thing at times about Elway when it comes to Tebow.

Last shout out to John Fox, please, please, please, please, please, please, please Start #8 Orton this sunday……………. on the bench.
Or consider this, start Quinn and Tebow alternating to start the game, let them run up 35 points and then let Orton in the game to manage it and play not to lose.

  13. brian_schneider says:

I know we’re not only beating a dead horse but the horse has been buried 6 feet under and we’re still “stomping” on the ground above it. LOL!

  14. broncoterry says:

Stevecan2 what are you talking about? Why would Fox run the wishbone? I am guessing you were a Mcteamkiller fan? I love the broncos! GB 21 Bronc’s 17 world champ are tough.

  15. stevecan2 says:

The wishbone never utilized the run outside of the tackles. Unimaginative and completely un relevant to the current game. I guess it went over you head, that’s okay.

And yes, I was a Josh McDaniels fan, until we were losing our asses. And the thought that only McDaniels fans would hate John Fox, again something went over your head.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

Good thing HarHitting doesn’t read previous posts, LOL.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

    HardHitting, sorry

  18. shaztah says:

On the Lloyd thing, I have said all along that Orton and Lloyd are in cahoots to pad each others numbers so they can try to get big long term contracts next year that is why Lloyd did a 180 on Tebow when Orton was named the starter. Now Lloyd is realizing that Orton is for Orton and he doesn’t care who gets the ball (Decker) as long as it helps his numbers. Be interesting to see if Lloyd does a flip flop again and start backing Quinn or Tebow again LOL.

  19. casinoroyal19 says:

Was watching espn and they were talking about how the vikings should bench Mcnabb if they lose this week because of his lack of fire and competitiveness when the team is doing bad. All I could think of was why don’t people say that about Orton? He it the definition of no fire and competitiveness lol

  20. HardHitting27 says:

    No worries Bay.
and no I haven’t had time to read any previous posts. what did I miss?

  21. RabidOrange says:

    casino,

They can’t say that about Orton, because that is tantamount to supporting Tebow, which would be committing media blasphemy. As soon as a reporter on a national level supports Tebow, his will get skewered by networks and other analysts. Career killer.

  22. O&BinCostaRica says:

Good Morning Bronco’s Country! Happy Friday Broncomaniacs! The weekend is here and thus excitement grows about Sunday. Besides the actual game, what is it about Gameday y’all look forward to the most? I mean the game itself doesn’t look too promising and could be over by half time with the QB play we have. At any rate, for me, besides the actual game, it is the drinks, the food, and the total disconnect from work, and other life stuff.

Share your gameday experience! Here in Costa Rica the weather is year round about 80 degrees so I always light the grill, or the smoker, got cool beers and Rum and Cokes. My favorite cuts are Sirloin 3/4 in. St. Louis Ribs with Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce. All of you are welcome to catch a game here with my family anytime!

    GO BRONCOS!

    Bench Orton
    Bench Orton
    Bench Orton

    PLEASE!

  23. shaztah says:

Yeah Rabid and just think when Tebow is given a chance and has great success just think how many of those media people will say stuff like ” I always knew he would be great” LOL.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

O&B, I’m in! Just gotta figure out the flight and accomodations first, LOL.

NFL football in the tropics, how cool is that!

  25. baylinorcrush says:

HardHitting, nothing really, we were just talking about fans who say Elway is jaleous of Tebow and fears he might end up better than him, then telling those punks that the best punishment for them would be to force them to watch every single NFL game Elway ever played and that would shut them up, that’s all, LOL.

  26. RabidOrange says:

“We knew he’d do good things.”
“We told you so, he just needed to come into his own.”
“He’s ready, now. He wasn’t before.”

Yep. That’ll be the chorus line. Oh, yeah, don’t forget the headlines about how he was told he couldn’t from high school all the way through the pros. The best line will be:

“Again he proves his naysayers wrong!” Never mind that they themselve were his naysayers…

    Semper Broncos!!!

  27. baylinorcrush says:

This look at Rodgers by Legwold is worth a double take for the ones making score predictions, haha:

Aaron Rodgers is completing a double-take-worthy 71.8 percent of his passes this season with eight touchdowns and one interception. And since the start of the 2009 season, Rodgers has likely been the league’s best quarterback against the blitz.

Most seasons a quarterback who averages more than 8 yards per attempt will be at or near the front of the league’s quarterbacks rankings. Against the blitz, since the start of 2009, Rodgers is averaging a staggering 9.48 yards per pass attempt.

That means he’s not only completing passes against the extra rushers, he’s completing passes that go for big, game-changing, defense-gouging plays.

Already in three games this season, teams have tried to blitz him with little success. The Bears did snag his only interception of the season last weekend out of a blitz package, but Rodgers has been blitzed about a third of the time on pass attempts thus far and has thrown for more than 400 yards on those snaps, as well as three of his eight touchdown passes.

But that’s the difficulty. Defensive coordinators also know to let somebody like Rodgers — with the receivers and backs the Packers have in a scheme that stresses defenses all over the field — simply stand comfortably in the pocket and pick away has no chance of succeeding.

He’s completing over 70 percent of his passes under whatever duress defenses can muster now. To dial things down is likely inviting him to make it look like some seven-on-seven drill in training camp.

So, the Broncos’ best option is the most difficult — get there with four. They don’t necessarily have to be four defensive linemen, but the Broncos have to find a way to pressure Rodgers with four players, whatever four they decide to send.

  28. HardHitting27 says:

Bay, obviously myself and Kiszla are a little slow then on the Elway jealousy thing…… doh!!

I’m looking forward to another good showing from the D this weekend. so I’m going to watch the game while they are on the field.

During offensive possessions, I will watch any game from the last couple seasons, as it will be the same thing, with no changes.

  29. baylinorcrush says:

The problem we are facing is Rodgers looks like a QB on 7 on 7 drills in real games while Orton only looks like that on 7 on 7s, LMAO!

  30. baylinorcrush says:

Kiz was actually very anoid by those comments and clearly stated so, telling them to go sit on a couch and get therapy, haha.

  31. baylinorcrush says:

I thing the first time I heard that here was like 3 or 4 months ago.

  32. baylinorcrush says:

    annoyed, haha

  33. baylinorcrush says:

    And jealous, embarrassing stuff…

  34. royalbroncofan1 says:

O&BCR – Pretty much the same here in Colorado.

Friends & family get together for the game.
We take turns hosting for out of town games, and some home games if we don’t attend. This weekend’s our turn.
Have to get up early to get the smoker fired up.
I’ll be smoking some baby back ribs and with a good kansas city rub. (With a good rub, you don’t need bbq sauce), but do have KC Masterpiece on hand. Might also do some pulled pork. Throw in some Bronco Beans (crockpot) and a good homemade dressing for coleslaw and we’re good to go. Others will bring something as well.
We’ll be sure to have some cold frostys on hand…lol!

  35. alexanserg says:

I kinda feel like through the preseason and before the raiders game, the QQ stuff was totally irrelevant. Orton seems to have made it relevant again with his play.

That tennessee game was just about the worst game I have seen him play, along with the KC rematch last year. Can’t wait till week 9 or whenever it is that they can start Tebow or Quinn without contract escalators kicking in.

Next year Orton will probably be signed as a backup somewhere for close the league minimum. Maybe even here in Denver. He will be one of the best backups in the league.

  36. alexanserg says:

Dang RBF1. I want to watch football at your place. lol

    Sounds like a h— of a spread

  37. hometeam007 says:

Rahim- thanks for the post. We all heard about the quiet of defeat in the locker room after the last game…..It was a though loss.

You have a great opportunity to show what we are all about with the defending champs this weekend.

Forget about the Broncos offense for one game and shutdown that GBay passing attack. Do that and the world will pay attention. You all are working your butts off and we all are very proud of the progress our Broncos defense is making!!!! Take advantage of your instincts Rahim!!!

  38. hometeam007 says:

    correction….tough loss….

  39. royalbroncofan1 says:

Yeah Alex come over sometime…lol. You can usually get the 3 packs of bb rib racks at Sams’s for $28.00- $30 bucks.

  40. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Some impressive numbers from Rodgers as expected. Would need to blitz only 4 and sometimes blitz 5 (miller being the 5th man) … we need to get pressure on him without sending the whole house. Which means Doom and Miller would have to hold it down. And I think they are good enough to handle it on thier own. Assuming Doom can go. Either way … doesn’t look good for us … never did … but I still always pick us to win. The difference between us and Packers past competition this season … the teams they played could actually hang … they had QBs that could get into a QB shootout with him … one that they lost, but they could at least get into the shootout. Don’t think Orton can … sure he shot alot last year but they rarely resulted in TDs so who cares for it.

All the broncos can do is try to establish a running game (like they always try to do with no success) and own TOP and limit Rodgers time on the field.

  41. RabidOrange says:

I’m disappointed to see that no one uses TD’s sauce. When I BBQ here in Idaho, I like slathering spareribs with Mile High Salute Spicy BBQ sauce. I have to order it online, but hey, it’s worth it. I just wish I could BBQ more. Especially on game days. Semper Broncos!!

  42. baylinorcrush says:

Unfortunately the Packers D held the usually good Bears running game to like single digit yards last week!!!

  43. royalbroncofan1 says:

Thx for reminding me rabidorange. We bought some but have yet to break it out. You can pick it up here a King Soopers.

  44. RabidOrange says:

Yeah, I’m jealous that I can’t just run to the store and grab some if I run out…

  45. henryac says:

I just had all my teeth pulled and and dentures put in you guys are talking about smoked ribs and BBQ! Now that is cruel and unusual punishment!!! I can’t even eat ice cream right now, having a hard time with jello. But that’s OK, I hope you enjoy the weekend as much as I used to. Maybe in a week or two, I can get back to it but I’m on the PUP list for the next few weeks.

  46. royalbroncofan1 says:

Sorry henryac… will refrain and stick to football… :-)

  47. bddolph says:

sorry boys and girls we don’t have a tebow problem we have a coaching problem. fox is an average coach who will not change his style which has proven to be unsuccessful. broncos will be average at best and a non playoff time till we get a coach that will bring the fire to win attitude. my fear is this team will slip into a 2000 decade raiders team. hope iam wrong.

  48. Lenster7 says:

Orton sucks what a loooooooser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t take it anymore He’s a boring person and QB just not fun to watch make’s me sick Help me after the last to seasons we have to sit and watch this he’s a joke!!

  49. Crush Arizona says:

That’s pure horse cr@p !!! He’s totally fun to watch just ask any Fader fan and I hear there’s Signature drive on in Nashville some local ballot or something like that…….I’m just saying is all.

  50. broncofan9137 says:

If we see Tebow this week I’m sure Fox is trying to set him up to fail, & try to shut us up about Tebow. Wright now I don’t trust Fox. I don’t like his game plan of run, run, run & run when don’t have a running game. If Tebow was at QB we should pass to set up the run.
