Cutler: ‘Still Got a Little Ways to Go’

November 7th, 2007 - 3:29pm by Andrew

Jay Cutler walked up a step to the media-room lectern Wednesday afternoon confident that his bruised left leg would allow him to make an honest effort at being able to play Sunday in Kansas City — although he stopped short of saying he’d definitely be ready for the game.

“I’d like to say I would (be), but we’ve still got a little ways to go. We’ll see how it feels.

“We’ll try,” he added. “We did a little walk-through (earlier Wednesday afternoon) and it felt all right. I’m sure Patrick (Ramsey) is going to get a majority of the reps, but I’ll be out there.”

At the very least, Cutler was well protected Wednesday as he hit the practice field. His left leg was covered from the bottom of his shorts to his socks, making him look a little like Luke Skywalker hanging out at his aunt and uncle’s moisture farm on Tatooine. But when the full practice began an hour after his press conference, he was in uniform, smiling and joking with teammates Ramsey and Mike Leach while conversing with Head Coach Mike Shanahan.

“I feel all right,” Cutler said. “I feel better. I’m still sore and we’ll take it day by day.”

But just being able to do that was a bright sign for the quarterback, who feared the worst before learning the results of his Monday MRI examination.

“”I was really relieved,” he said. “To get the MRI back and see that it was just a deep bruise and that nothing was cracked, it was a relief. It’s a bruise, so I can go ahead and push it. If it hurts, it hurts, but it’s not going to get any worse.”

So If Jay dose feel okay on Sunday, but dose not practive much would he still go? Or would Patrick get the start because he knows the game plain better…

I have personal experience with deep bruises. As a goalie for my soccer team, I had a deep bruise and played a game where I hit the bruise on a diving save and it got a lot worse. I had a huge calcium deposit in my leg and couldn’t play for six months.

Jay, just make sure you don’t try and come back too early. It can turn out to be a lot worse than just a bruise. As a fan, I would much rather see Cutler miss one or even two more games than be out for the season and possibly even 08 training camp as well.

I think that if Jay wants to play, and he’s feeling better, he’ll start over P Ramsey, but on the flip side, the leg could cause problems if he tries to avoid having a more serious injury. another thing they might do is start Ramsey, and if he has trouble, then resort to jay, or the opposite of that.

Cutler is a warrior a down right tough guy and that was evident last season when he got drilled in the game vs. the 49ers, he missed some reps but was right back out there leading the Broncos in what was almost a dramatic victory! I hope he plays I really do and I believe in the severity that if that leg does get so much as a hand laid on it that it may not be very good, remember KC has a great pass rush and Jared Allen is a beast and right now the KC defense are like a bunch of sharks in bloody water, they can smell and sense Cutlers damaged leg and given the oppurtunity I wouldn’t put it by any of there players to try and take a shot at his leg……..Brister filled in well for Elway for a span and I believe that Ramsey would do the same……Ramsey didn’t look all that bad vs. the Lions we just had too many guys dropping balls and the pass protection was weak when he dropped back to pass…….So Shanny what’s the call????

I am telling you … all the way from Texas … Ramsey should have the ball. Go back to the pre season games. He looked more confident than Cutler. Let him play. One more game and you got a quarterback. Shanny… turn the season to a positive. Win some games. Keep doing what you’re doing and you will keep getting what you’re getting. Time to dismount. It would be good to get a little blocking also.
