Denver’s players got the day off on Tuesday, but three of them will not be back at practice when Wednesday arrives, as the Broncos released wide receiver Brian Clark, defensive back Curome Cox and defensive tackle Amon Gordon.
Gordon had tumbled down the depth chart in recent weeks. After becoming a first-teamer in the preseason and starting the first three regular-season games, he was deactivated for four of thes next five contests, including all three after the Week 6 bye last month. Gordon logged five tackles in games against the Bills and Jaguars and ended up with 16 total tackles in his four games this year, but did not log a sack.
Clark, meanwhile, was waived for the second time this season. The team placed him on waivers on Sept. 29 — one day before the Colts game — then brought him back on Oct. 2 when it waived Domenik Hixon. Clark then played in each of the next four games, catching four passes for 23 yards and returning three kickoffs for 70 yards. He did, however, fumble twice — once on a kickoff return against San Diego and again while stretching out to try and score a last-minute touchdown in Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions.
Cox, meanwhile, was inactive for the first time this season on Sunday at Detroit. He played in 36 games — starting five — over the last three years for the Broncos, logging 26 total tackles, a pair of interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 10 passes defensed.
Denver also moved defensive end Jarvis Moss to injured reserve; he fractured his right fibula and tore ankle ligaments in practice last week.
The Broncos filled the roster vacancies by signing wide receiver Taylor Jacobs, a former No. 2 pick of the Washington Redskins in 2003, and three defensive ends — ex-Atlanta Falcons Josh Mallard and Paul Carrington and Larry Birdine, who was most recently on the Titans’ practice squad.
Carrington was waived from the Falcons on Sept. 1, while Mallard was waived from there on Oct. 13. Both Carrington and Mallard played last year in Atlanta under current Broncos defensive-line coach Bill Johnson.

Wow , 29 , i thought i was upset but when i read your post ….i may be the happier guy of the world compare to you . Yeah our whole team sucks right fotr whatever reason and i’m just waiting for better days .
Rev… Why would you want us to make the playoffs so we can get torn apart by the pats or colts. This season is obviously going to be used to rebuild… just face the facts. Theres no need to hope for more than what is possible. I’d love to get tickets and go to the games whether they win or lose.
I know that they could have been a good team if they did not get insanely plagued by injuries this year, that I will always believe, but you can not change that. I do think a new trainer is well overdue, greek is old and out of date.
Good work Shanahan, bring in four new bums to replace the ones you sent packing.
I have never seen so many bull$&@% posts in my entire life. Let me clarify who I am speaking to. I respect all calls regarding players, coaches, staff, play calling, schemeing, ect. What I can’t handle is those of you that want to throw in the season. Hell, I have already addressed one “fan” who said he/she was done watching them this season. However, still shows up here to post. I agree with almost everyones concerns, but quitting on the team is non-optional. Isn’t that what a fan is? One that voices their concerns & praises but never quits?
Broncofan1088,
I don’t want to take your comment out of context if I do, I apologize. But, are you really saying you wish our season to be over instead of them getting that one chance in the playoffs? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Yes, they would be amazingly huge underdogs, but I’ll take my chances rooting for the Broncos rather than sitting at home not getting the chance to cheer for my team one more week.
Again, I share the same disgust as most. And what I don’t agree with vs some I keep to myself because I respect your opinions. But don’t give up on these guys. This team is certainly capable of beating most teams maybe even all if the stars and moon align perfectly….but it’s that “want” that keeps me glued to Bronco football.
And lastly, can we for the love of God please stop bringing up Elway, TD, Sharp, Jackson, Atwater, The Swan, and anyone of the other all time greats and the comparisons we like to make! That goes for the washed up QB’s like Plummer too. Nobody will ever disscredit their place in time with the NFL, but THEY ARE GONE! sad to see it happen because of the joy they brought to so many millions of fans but it was time for them to move on. Wether it be professional or personal.
We simply need to go to KC beat the hell out em’ and return Monday to regroup…Well maybe not Monday they’ll probably be off that day
Go get em boys!!!
I say go Broncos, from Bend, Or.
I once learned quite some time ago: “The success or failure of any given component of a team is a direct reflection of the leaderships failure to properly implement, plan, and follow through” Seems to me, baised on that quote, the leadership of the team are the ones that should be getting released.
Like someone said earlier, Plummer didn’t play with any heart. Yeah, he had some great games but there was something about him towards the end that seemed like he was playing like he wanted to be traded. I want a QB that wants to be there and it shows, I want a QB that plays b/c he loves the game — I see that in Cutler everytime. I also want players in every position that want to be there and play b/c they love the game. Of course I love to win, I can’t stand to lose so all these bad games are driving me NUTS!!!! But I know this team can pull through and prevail, we have the talent and potential – we have to use it. These young guys are so full of talent its just waiting to burst out.
If this team was playing like their lives depended on it, giving more than what’s expected – we’d be 9-0, we’d be the team to beat, we’d be raising eyebrows left and right. If this year isn’t our year, next year definitely will be. Unlike the majority of people on this blog, I still have faith in my team. Just b/c we’re not having the best season this franchise has ever seen, what kind of fans are you if you keep giving up, wanting to fire everybody, wanting to get rid of the best coach we’ve ever had. You all are outside your minds.
I’m not quite sure all you nay-sayers realize if you fire everyone we don’t have a football team and so then tell me – just how in the world can we win games if we fire everyone???? I want the best for the Broncos just as much as the next person, but FIRING EVERYONE WON’T SOLVE ANYTHING. Well, I’m so glad that’s finally settled. Have some faith people.
GO BRONCOS!!!
I can’t believe they are doing Clark like that. He plays with a lot of heart, and he can also go vertigo.
I AM SO DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY????!!!! I truly liked Brian Clark!!! He is such a positive role model and a spectacular individual, that I really believed would be with Denver for years!!!
He tried so hard…he worked his butt off, unlike some other players on our team. I really wish that he would have just turned down the offer to re-sign, because obviously the Denver Broncos did not appreciate him, allow him to make his mark, focus on his talents, nor give him a chance to truly shine…I mean give him a chance!!! Maybe he should have had more play time…and don’t take him out if he makes a mistake…everyone makes mistakes!!!
Don’t cut him and then sign new players…what a frickin’ slap in the face!!! I feel so bad for him and his family!!!
I am one of the biggest Denver Broncos fans around, but do not agree with this move at all!!!
Brian Clark you were an asset to the Denver Broncos…I wish you the absolute BEST with your future!!!
I don’t bring up the past players (BRONCFALLS) to compare players. I know they are no longer playing! I am saying these guys who played every down like it was their last, have to get a little upset at times. Not because of the loses, but the commitment and desire to be a succesful NFL player who makes a lot of money doesn’t seem to be there!!!
You know, as much as I love Elway, TD, McCaffery, Sharpe, Atwater, Pryce and my personal all time under-rated favorite, DE Kenny Walker, these players are never coming back! get over it! Move on!
It’s time to root for what we have and watch them develope. It’s better to say,”I cheered for them all along.” Than to jump on the bandwagon win they do win it all.
Go Broncos!
I LOVED Brian Clark. That kid is gonna be big someday. I wish we kept him. I couldn’t believe it when I just read that we cut him again. WTF did he do wrong? He fumbled while trying to stretch out for a TD. That fumble didn’t cost us the game, so why cut him for that? I wish more of our players put themselves out there trying for that extra inch. maybe we wouldn’t look so pathetic!
Ok…”Reality Check” For all who continue to state how MUCH you loved Brian Clark, GET A CLUE! He’s just another mediocre WRs among many, who is destined to become a special teams player…but never a receiver!!!!! Cmon, you all have better insight than that…dont you?
Now…about those DL/DE’s we really NEED
Do I wish this season to be over and us to lose? No, never.
Do I think this season appears to most definitely be over? Yes, with the way the injuries have plagued this team and the way the players have been playing I see NO chance of winning the superbowl this year, at all. I’d love if they do, I do not see the chance and I think you would have to be crazy to think they can win this year. I’m content knowing they will get better though next year at least.

Being a Denver Bronco since 1979 this is the most disgusting season i have ever witnessed. Were not saying Cutler has to be another John Elway, because theres only one Elway. Am just asking Cutler to show up and play, I know we have a lot injuries minus Rod Smith AND Javon WALKER ,but Cutler suck it up and play. If was Denvers GM i would trade that clown for Vince Young. At least Young is exciting and has a winning team. Cutler has never won over 7 games while at vanderbilt and i dont wont that trend to start in. Bottom line Cutler is just another Brian Gries or Bubby Brister a HAS BEEN THAT NEVER WAS ! Mad Bronco fan!!!
Way to overreact “Cutler who”.
Sorry i am not overreacting. We need some readjustments to turn this mess around.Am not totaling blaming Cutler because we have a lot of key injuries and hes right out of college. Every one wants or at least almost every one wants him to be like Tony Romo. But things a lot of people dont know Tony was on the sidelines for 2 years carring a clippborad and learning the system and the league before he took over . I think Shannahan took a desparate move and a panniack move and force the kid into a starting position before he was ready and he was to young. He SHOULD HAVE HAD HIM CARRYING A clippborad for a couple years.Because Plummer did take us 13-3 and took us to the title game before Shannahan mad his crazy move.Cutler needs help then worked into the sytem then we can see what he got.
I just want this team to get better. I hate the Raiders and have just had so much fun laughing at their sorry team these past couple of years. I also hate the chiefs and chargers. We have a team that can be great, it’s just one of those years that nothing seems to work. I live in Indy and every damn time the broncos come here I have to get laughed at by every Indy fan there is. Please get htis teamed turned around so these Indy fans will get of my back.
i just recently moved to virgina and i can say one thing they need to get rid of ramsey because all i here is that the fans here in vigina wich are all redskins fans say ramsey is not the right qb for denver all i have to say is they just need to find a reliable back up qb for cutler or we are going to have a very long season
CUTLER WHO SAYS JAY IS NOT A CLOWN BUT YOU ARE A JOKER JAY HAS MORE TALENT THAN GRIESE AND BRISTER . LETS STRAIGHEN THIS OUT KNOW . VINCE YOUNG IS NOT BETTER THAN JAY . YOU JUST WAIT TILL JAY GETS SUPPORTED BY THE FANS OF THE BRONCOS INSTEAD OF ALL THIS SILLY NONSENSE OF HIM BEING A BAD QB . LETS BACK JAY HE IS OUR QB OF THE FUTURE . DONT JUDGE HIM ON 12 GAMES . THANK YOU !!! GO BRONCOS1!!
