Catching Up With the Family

October 2nd, 2008 - 1:20pm by Ryan Torain

Kansas City didn’t go as well as we all would have wanted, obviously. But one good thing game out of it — I got to see my family.

I was raised around that area, and the majority of my family is still there, so that was good. Aunts and uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters — I got to see them all. It wasn’t for a long period of time, but it was just good to see them for what little bit of time they had. I took what I got and enjoyed it. Definitely took a lot of pictures.

I know I admitted growing up that some of us were Chiefs fans, but don’t worry it’s not that way anymore. My family is just a football family. My dad’s side is from Baltimore, and a couple of my uncles liked the Chiefs. But everybody’s a Broncos fan now.

Not much new is going on this week, just the same old, same old. Which I guess is a good thing by itself — everything is going smoothly in my recovery. I’m just trying to get my arm strong and keep on working in the training room.

Hopefully I’ll be back on the practice field in a couple of weeks. I’ve just got to be patient, that’s how it goes. For now I’m just preparing for the game as if I’m playing. Going through the same meetings as everybody else, studying, doing the same tests and just helping the team mentally and verbally. That’s the role I have right now, so I’m just trying to help out where I can and make sure we get this W.

From what I’ve seen on film, the Bucs look like a tough team. They’ve got a very sound defense where everyone knows their position well. There are a lot of vets on that side of the ball. We as an offense just have to be ready for them.

Nothing really else to update you all on, except one thing I’ve been seeing online. I never really played fantasy football, but some of my friends told me some of the experts have been saying to pick me up on your team now for when I’m back on the field.

That’s tight. Definitely go ahead and pick me up. But I don’t know nothing about all that fantasy draft stuff. I don’t know about putting points up in that, I know I’m just trying to put up points in the real game. That’s all I’m trying to do.

That’s it for this week, but I’ll check in next week. I might let you all in on what a typical day at Dove Valley is like for me during my rehab.

Sounds like things are going good Ryan, all of us fans can’t wait for you to be healthy. I’m defiantly going to pick you up in my fantasy league. Only problem is we are all Bronco fans so you will be picked up soon. :-P
    Keep on keeping on

  2. gassman9225 says:

    Cool Ryan,

Keep doin’ your thing in the meetings and rehab and all that and I’m sure you’ll be ready to contribute to our backfield in no time.

  3. navy_bronco_fan says:

    Ryan,
Can’t WAIT ’till you get back on the field, dude! I’ve been watching some YouTube highlights of you at ASU and I’m excited to see what you bring to the Bronco’s running game. It looks like you cutback alot and also make quick lateral cuts that I think will work great with our zone blocking scheme. Plus I’m liking the way you drop that shoulder and make the chump tackling you PAY. Take care of that elbow and get healthy ’cause we’re gonna need you down the road for a playoff push!

  4. Ddk Broncos fan says:

Yo ryan im glad everything is going well man
I love Selvin and Dre, but man you really look like you can do some damage to opposing defenses. I can’t wait to see you come back so you can restore our running game.
    Get well soon
    DdK

That’s great that you were able to spend a little bit of time with your family. I really hope this week against the Bucs turns out a whole lot better. I am gonna be there with my brother…its his late birthday present. Too bad he’s there to see Tampa. So I hope you guys ruin his birthday and pull out a win!! :) See you boys Sunday!! I’ll be cheering loud!!

  6. kmb says:

    Ryan,

Glad to hear things are going good with re-hab!! Looking forward to getting you back and creating havoc on the opposing team’s defense!! Glad you got to spend some quality time with your family. Keep being the moral supporter for our team. GO BONCOS!

  7. Guron says:

When you get ready and get well I would like to see your name in the record book. I want you to be bigger than Terrell Davis, Clinton Portis, Mike Anderson. Will you be ready when we play Cleveland Browns or will you be back sooner?

  8. broncofan2415 says:

Man, I cant wait to see the Torain Train come back on the field. I really think that this is going to be our X Factor. He will be coming in at the perfect time and can tear it up. I hope he runs all over the Pats.

  9. JayCutler4MVP says:

Guron they said at the soonest he will be ready by the New England game. the set date is for Miami week 9

  10. 203KillinSpree says:

Ry, man we need you out there! Try and get out there earlier, like by week 7! Don’t want you to get hurt but if you’re lifting you can make it in 2 weeks! Go get em!

  11. windsorbronco says:

If Ryan Torain who coach Shanahan said reminds him of Terrel Davis, resembles him at all. Between him, Cutler and B-Marsh. We will have special team for years to come. I explained to my son what being a true Bronco fan was all about. Going through the bad times, which weren’t so bad compared to other teams. So that when they go good you appreciate them that much more then just jumping on the ban wagon. Go Broncos!!!

  12. Smith's biggest fan says:

I already have you on my fantasy team Ryan!!!! It’s awesome. i can’t wait to start you. I also have Cutler, Royal, D.J. Williams, Young, Hall, and Sheffler. I know, i got to many but i just can’t help it.

  13. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

We hope to have you soon, Ryan, and the Buccaneers are beatable although they’re a really good team. Hopefully, the defense makes some big plays.

  14. 2champ4pickSIX says:

Just come back healthy Ryan so you can step in and continue up from there. Don’t rush anything. You’re already there mentally, just get there physically. Doing it right will always work, doing it quick is never sure either way.

I have to ask though Smith’s biggest fan….. WTF fantasy league are you in? Or are you lying through your teeth to relate? I have never been in a fantasy league where you pick defensive players, YOU JUST PICK THE ENTIRE TEAMS DEFENSE! Just wondering while trying not to mock having filled your team with players from one team. How is your team doing, scoring, winning? J/W

  15. 77crush says:

    ryan,

your time is quickly approaching, though for you i’m sure it’s not quickly enough. glad to hear you are progressing on schedule.

    2champ4pickSIX,

i had dj williams in my yahoo fantasy football league team. you start three defensive players every week, and you get points for tackles, ints, forced fumbles, blah, blah, blah. the best players to have are the dbs who return kicks, you get points for return yardage too.

btw, i have cutler, marshall, and scheffler on my team and i’m in first place; i will admit i dropped dj after a couple game

  16. WGBronco says:

Elway needed Davis, Cutler needs Torain. SUPERBOWL BABY!!!!!

  17. john7jay6 says:

It always nice to catch up with family Ryan, even if it’s on a losing day. Hope you get better soon, you’ll be good for a long time in that denver backfield

  18. ericbball324 says:

Ryan, I drafted you on draft day man!! You can be a keeper in the league for 10 years! Keep up with the rest of your rehab and everyones looking to see you out on the field!

  19. baileythebronco says:

i drafted you too but i released you sorry ill re sign you i put you on waivers every other day about so no one can get you. WE need a dominate running back i have selvin young ill cut him for you when you get back :) . i like selvin but he’s second string matterial your first string material good luck dude

  20. baileythebronco says:

lets hope you are td good cause otherwise they might trade you if your clinton portis good or tatum bell good, lol. i hope that doesnt happen i shouldnt of posted this lol

  21. Orange_Nut says:

Ryan – You guys made me the proudest to be a Broncos fan as I have been in a long time. I can’t wait to see you out there in that backfield tearing it up with them. You have to print this out and give it to the team…

To the defense – You guys won this today. It was your heart, determination and guts that lead this team to victory.

D-Line: You were reminiscent of the old Orange Crush today… never let them move the line of scrimmage, made plays in the backfield and just wreaked havoc all day. This is a D-Line to be proud of.

Ekuban and Dumerville – you guys attacked all day. You never let up, even when you were tired, you dug deep and kept pushing. Even when they had open plays, you made them miss. I salute you!

D.J. Williams, Nate Webster and Boss Bailey – was there a play you weren’t involved in shutting down? You guys are sick… tackles in the backfield, knocking down passes, crushing their running attack… There are no three better.

Dre and Champ – shutdown corners, yeah… I said it… SHUTDOWN. They had nowhere to go with the ball. You guys are definitely the top CB tandem in the league.

Jack MF Williams – you shine kid. I know we’re only going to see more and more great plays by you. Keep wow’ing us.

Marquand Manual and Marland McCree – you stepped up today, made big plays all over the field. I hope to keep seeing more and more out of you guys. Great additions to the team.

Micheal Pittman – WELCOME TO THE BRONCOS!! You were a beast today. So many backs come in and out of here, it’s hard to know who will stay and who will go. You put your stamp on that backfield today, just crushing defenders. But that was 20% beast and 80% heart, I’m proud to have you as a Bronco!

Ryan Clady – They way you have jumped in a solidified that O-line is insane, and still a rookie? Nobody is getting past you, its REDICULOUS! I, for one, will be voting for you as Rookie of the Year.

Casey Weigman – you have come right in and become the staple of the O-line, your performance amazes me. You are truly the foundation of our stellar offensive line.

O-Line: Ryan Harris and crew, I’m still getting to know you guys but, without a doubt, if it weren’t for your play, this offense wouldn’t be half of what it is.

Jay Cutler – what can I say. There are no more “Elway” comparisons here. You are already outshining him. You should hear how proud your Broncos Nation is of you. You sir are “the man”, and I would not want to have ANY other quarterback leading this team… period!

B-Marsh – Do I even need to say it? The best WR in the NFL right now. I am so proud that you are on this team. You will lead us to victory. The clinic you put up on corners week in and week out is astounding.

Eddie Royal – I knew from the first time I saw your highlight film that you were going to be just sick! But I never knew this much. Your skill and your ethics (both on and off) are going to take you to the HOF. I’m stoked just to be able to see it happen.

Brandon Stokely – a work-horse, always reliable, always produce and always the showman… that high stepping down the sideline… just bananas!

Tony Scheffler and Nate Jackson – is there anything you guys can’t catch? Money.. just money. No better two in the league if you ask me.

And what’s even more crazy, all the 2’s (and in a lot of cases 3’s) are just as insanely talented. You guys have the skills and chemistry to take this team to the top. So many great guys I can’t even type them all. But just know your Broncos Nation, win or lose, stands behind THIS team 100%.

  22. Orange_Nut says:

Yo – how could I forget about Matt Prater. That dude is all leg. He is on his way to breaking records, currently leading the NFL in scoring, and just giving us one more IMPORTANT thing to be proud of as Broncos fans.

  23. Bronco*n*kansas says:

    Hi Ryan,

I am glad you got to see family and friends. You have to know one thing about the Chiefs, They may be on a downward trend now, but when they play the Broncos, they will get up for it. I have always said that the Broncos-chiefs series it the biggest rivalry. Many in KC think it is with Oakland, but It dont really compare to the Denver-kc games.

As for fantasy football, when yo get in there all you need to do is Keep running North and south. Gaining yards by either rushing or catching out of the backfield and helping the team. You will score for us that have you picked already. I look forward to the games you have the rest of the season. I figure between you and pittman and Michael Turner(My only offensive non-bronco) I will be set at RB. ALL I got to do is figure out how Im going to take my week 8 loss. That is unless I can convince you and the guys and the NFL that you play during the bye week. But I think you will better serve me if you have that rest and take the rest of the league by storm for weeks 8-17.

Now I wanted to address Mr. Bowlen ,Mr. Shanahan and the Broncos as a team and whole organization. I have been a Broncos fan for over 45 years. Ive seen the low years of the 60′s and early 70′s. I seen the superbowl teams of the 90′s. But I love what I see from the 2008 team and organization.

It was pointed out in a internet article that the team has taken on a TEAM attitude. Not a 53 member “im the best on this team” that other teams are having trouble with as I type. TO have four or five running backs working together, along with the five or six receivers. Tight ends blocking and catching the ball. It is a joy to see this concept of TEAM from the whole organization, from rookies to the aged vetrans.

Keep up the rehab Ryan and tell the guys we are behind them 110%.

Oh one more thing, you never said what BBQ you had.

    Keep on-keeping on!

  26. bronco_chick82 says:
