The first sign of good news regarding Jarvis Moss’ left-knee MRI examination came when onlookers at Broncos practice first received a glimpse of him at the afternoon practice — standing upright, with only a wrapped bandage covering his knee.
As it turned out, not only was the MRI on Moss’ left knee negative, but the first-round pick left open the door for actually participating in Tuesday morning’s practice — something that would be a staggering sight to anyone who witnessed Moss’ tumble to the ground and heard his anguished yells halfway through Monday morning’s practices.
“Everything checked out,” Moss said. “It kind of scared me for a minute. I felt like it was something real serious, but I’m fine. I’m going to go rehab tonight, and hopefully I’m ready to go in the morning.”
Moss was nevertheless uncertain about his status until the MRI took place.
“I didn’t know,” he said. “I was just waiting for the results to come back. But right now I’m fine, and hopefully I’ll feel better in the morning.”
The injury itself was typical for someone at his position.
“It felt like my cleat got stuck in the ground,” Moss said. “I did a spin move and my cleat was stuck, and I twisted it and didn’t know what was going on. I’ll be in the training room all night, and hopefully I’ll be ready to go in the morning.”
Finally … after solving some behind-the-scenes tech issues, it’s back to the blog with the p.m. notes …
ATTENDANCE REPORT: In addition to the injured players who missed the morning session, sitting out the afternoon practice were running back Travis Henry, guard Ben Hamilton, safety John Lynch, cornerback Champ Bailey, safety Nick Ferguson, tackle Matt Lepsis, center Tom Nalen, tight end Stephen Alexander, defensive tackle Sam Adams and defensive end Ebenezer Ekuban. All of them practiced earlier that day … Adam Meadows and Brandon Stokley practiced in the afternoon session after not taking part during the morning work.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS: Punt team and two-point conversion work. One outstanding play in the two-point segment was made by cornerback Jeff Shoate, who secured a tipped pass in the back of the end zone. Returning punts were Domenik Hixon, Brian Clark and David Kircus.
WHO’S WHERE? The first-team offensive line was reconstituted with Hamilton, Lepsis and Nalen out. Meadows slid in at left tackle, while Chris Kuper took over for Hamilton and Chris Myers handled center responsibilities in Nalen’s absence. Montrae Holland remained at right guard; he took over those duties late in the morning practice after Kuper was pulled following three sacks at his expense. Erik Pears was the right tackle … D.D. Lewis and Nate Webster each saw first-team action at strongside linebacker … Adams’ absence meant that Jimmy Kennedy moved up to the first team at defensive tackle in the base package; the injury to Jarvis Moss and the absence of Ekuban pushed Elvis Dumervil onto the first team base unit at right defensive end … Curome Cox and Hamza Abdullah handled the balance of first-team work at safety.
STANDOUT PLAYS: Wesly Mallard intercepted Jay Cutler during team drills … And one has to mention running back Andre Hall, who showed his open-field speed after bursting through holes for several solid runs, although for the sake of fairness and accuracy in assessment, it must be noted that the practice took place without pads.

More Tuesday, with a morning session and a special-teams practice to follow. Until then, vaya con Dios.

Wow this is GREAT news!!! Thank you God!
I am so Happy, I can’t believe it now if we give engleberger the Denver Boot we will be set
Don’t expect that too soon as Engleberger has been doing REALLY well so far this camp. Unless something very surprising happens, I see him making the starting slot DE (in the base Defense). IMHO.

In My humble opinion and to use a Doug Moe phrase Engleberger is a stiff
who has one sack in 30 ballgames for the Broncos. He is light at 260 pounds and I have watched tape of him and on most plays he is a non factor, he made one good play last year when he knocked the ball out of Leinarts hand @ Arizona. The Broncos don’t need that, lets see Kenard Lang who is in the Doghouse or the rookie Crowder. Its is a sad state of affairs if Engleberger starts. Jonathon we may disagree but we have one thing in common, a passion for the Broncos. So Happy about Moss!
VT Hokie fan here with mixed emotions on Engleberger. Would love to have a Hokie on the roster but, we’ll be hurting if he is our starter.

Moved to Iowa and this is a great way to keep up with the Broncs. The combination of Bates as coordinater and a corner heavy defense should be great. I still think we will miss Al up the middle and in the locker room.
