Broncos-Vikings: Early Pregame Notes

December 30th, 2007 - 12:28pm by Andrew

Random thoughts for an early Sunday afternoon …

… Broncos are back for early pregame warmups in the blue pants, marking the fifth time this year that they’ve worn them. They’re 3-1 this year in the all-blue look and 6-4 all time. This will be just the second time they’ve worn the all-blue look for a daytime regular-season game …

… How does Bengals-Dolphins get a blimp? …

… Memo to Fox: We know that the Patriots defeated the Giants 38-35 last night, so how about using your Game Breaks for other games that are, you know, actually taking place right now? …

… The weather forecast for today here in INVESCO Field at Mile High includes winds that are gusting to 32 miles per hour, which could hinder the advantage the Broncos’ passing game possesses over the Vikings’ 32nd-ranked passing game. The day looks gorgeous, however, with brilliant sunny skies bathing the field in light …

American Idol premieres on Jan. 15, as Fox keeps reminding us. Whoop-de-do … I’ll just watch the two weeks of 320-pound guys with Freddie Mercury moustaches attempting to sing mid-1980s Madonna songs, then move on to something else. At least those two weeks of failed tryouts possess that carnival-freak quality …

… We’re having an extended discussion about satellite radio in the press box …

… Matt Prater just drilled a 65-yard field goal to the north end zonewith a good 10 yards to spare …

… Jason Elam warms up by punting, as always …

… Sam Paulescu drilled a 50-yard punt that bounced and went out of bounds … but then had a 35-yard punt that was low and a 40-yard punt that also was a low line drive. He proceeded to follow those by crushing a 55-yarder.

Why are the media concentrating on the New England Cheats?

Surely the NFL need to recognise that allowing and endorsing cheating by New England has led to a record that is unwarranted and brings ridicule on the whole game.

Why can nobody stand up against this cheating, or is it endemic throughout the whole of American “sport”?

Maybe it needs to be referred to the President?

Did you manage to catch any of City vs Liverpool? It was like watching paint dry, I don’t think either side would’ve scored even if they played until next year.

Maybe the Dolphins get a blimp because shooting from that high up is the only way they can get Bill Parcells’ entire ego into the shot.

I hope we keep Prater around! Sounds like under the tutelage of Elam he can seamlessly transition us into a new kicker era, and perhaps tie or break the record Elam already holds :) . Hey Mason, any idea who is going to handle kickoffs? Is it Prater, or Paulescu? Is Prater even active or is he on the practice squad?

It was good to see Hixon go into NY and come out fighting, he did great on his returns. It only goes to show me that our kickoff coverage needs help, especially playing in Mile High.

Saw the whole thing … to me, City’s plan was Sven’s response to the debacle at Stamford Bridge several weeks back. He didn’t have the horses to keep up with Chelski, but he ran them anyway … and our guys got run out of the building. Today, he turned it 180 degrees … which is the prudent thing to do, since the City back line can shut down just about anyone as long as Micah Richards controls his temper. This shows just how much City needs to use the transfer market to get some scoring help, because aside from Elano, no one seems bold enough to try anything some games.

It wasn’t an attractive game, but I’ll take the point … It’s treading water, but that can buoy us for the moment until we can add a striker or two … I’m more disappointed about the Blackburn result a few days ago; that was one we needed.

Looks like it’ll be Prater on kickoffs … I can’t imagine why he’d be active otherwise.
