Broncos-Steelers: Third-Quarter Notes

October 21st, 2007 - 8:04pm by Andrew

8:04 P.M. MDT: Off we go … the second half. Glenn Martinez and Selvin Young back deep to field the kick.

8:05 P.M. MDT: Pittsburgh’s Aaron Smith will not return due to a left knee injury.

8:06 P.M. MDT: The first play of the half sees the Broncos gain 13 yards on a pass from Cutler to Brandon Marshall.

8:08 P.M. MDT: Broncos now in third-and-3 … great effort by Marshall to pick up the first down amidst a thicket of Steelers in the left flat … Broncos now four-of-six on third downs tonight.

8:08 P.M. MDT: Cutler looked for Tony Scheffler across the middle, but James Farrior inhabited the space between, leaping back for the interception. He returned it to the Denver 41.

8:10 P.M. MDT: Broncos run ‘D’ stout on the first two plays, going for two yards … third-and-8 … Roethlisberger runs for 10 yards out of the shotgun to the Denver 29.

8:11 P.M. MDT: Willie Parker scoots left for 16 and moves the Steelers into the red zone. Cue the towels.

8:13 P.M. MDT: Outstanding run defense by Nick Ferguson to come into the backfield and perfectly wrap up and tackle Parker. Now it’s third-and-10 from the 13.

8:14 P.M. MDT: R’berger in the shotgun … into the end zone … in traffic … touchdown, Steelers. Pittsburgh now six-of-nine on its third downs, two-of-two in the red zone and back within one score at 21-14. Both of its scores have come on short fields after Broncos miscues (kickoff out of bounds, interception).

8:21 P.M. MDT: Love the stoppages … timeout after a touchdown, kickoff, TV timeout. Broncos are now at the Steelers 48.

8:23 P.M. MDT: A sack, a run for a loss, and the Broncos are back on the dismal side of midfield at their 48-yard-line with third-and-14 … but Selvin Young gets them out of it with a 16-yard gain on the screen pass. Broncos stay alive and near scoring range.

8:25 P.M. MDT: Cutler sacked, loses the ball … Brandon Marshall manages to fall on it, but the Broncos lose 11 and are back at the Pittsburgh 47. Clark makes his second reception of the game one play later, but the Broncos still have third-and-14 forthcoming.

8:26 P.M. MDT: Third down, and the Broncos come up large again, as Cutler finds Brandon Stokley for 17 to the Steelers 23. Clock moving quickly; down to 1:15.

8:27 P.M. MDT: Cutler turns to Marshall working out of trips-left; Tony Scheffler makes a downfield block; Glenn Martinez has one back upfield, and the Broncos are at the 1.

8:28 P.M. MDT: Touchdown, on second-and-goal, as Scheffler scoots into the end zone and snares the short pass out of a Cutler rollout as the quarter ends. 28-14, Broncos.

14 point lead into the 4th – Let’s finish it!

Special teams have looked nice. Pittsburgh has averaged 30 yards per KO return coming in, we’ve held them under 20. Run defense has been good, Parker has broken a couple, but then again, he is Willie Parker. Pressure on QB excellent so far. You can tell they worked hard over the bye.

  7. dgilmer777_la says:

That was a bs spot of the ball, he did not get it

  8. rev79 says:

Cutler’s time to shine – Don’t Plummer this lead Young Guy!!!

Man I wish Bailey was in there to shut Hines down.

    Uh, ok, enough cover 2

  11. poorboywilly says:

I think even the person operating the “flag” display on the scoreboard knew that was a false start

    Go Cutler Go

I have an idea the officials did see the false start and purposely did not call it. Cheaters never win. I still think some officials of the NFL have ill will towards the Bronco’s. It happens every year! Most referees are honest, then there are those that are not! Bronco’s fought hard and I for one am very proud of them, Why do some of you criticize them? Your faith is waivering……Go be a fan elsewhere! SCAT!!!!!!!
