Broncos-Raiders Pregame: M. Bell, Scheffler Among Inactives

November 12th, 2006 - 1:11pm by Andrew

Both of the newest Broncos to the 53-man roster will play today, while Patrick Chukwurah, Ian Gold and Ebenezer Ekuban will sit out after being listed as doubtful throughout the week.

There are, however, some interesting developments among the inactive players. To wit:

Running back: Both Mike Bell and Cedric Cobbs are inactive, while Damien Nash — promoted from the practice squad this morning — is up and in uniform. Nash is the only full-time tailback up on the 45-man active roster besides first-teamer Tatum Bell.

Tight end: Tony Scheffler is inactive for the first time all year. In recent weeks, the Broncos have utilized Nate Jackson (at Cleveland) and Chad Mustard (at Pittsburgh) in more extensive roles; Mustard started last week against the Steelers as an extra tight end for blocking purposes.

The other inactives include wide receiver Quincy Morgan and offensive lineman Chris Kuper.

Nash and defensive tackle Antwon Burton, both of whom were promoted from the practice squad Sunday morning, will suit up for the first time as Broncos. The same will be true for Nate Webster; he dons a Broncos uniform for the first time in the regular season after being scratched for the first eight games.

Webster is scheduled to start for Gold; John Engelberger is listed as the starter at right defensive end in place of Ebenezer Ekuban.

Oakland also announced two switches on its offensive line: Corey Hulsey will start for inactive Barry Sims, while Chad Slaughter takes over at left tackle for the inactive Robert Gallery.

A smattering of players are warming up on the field as the sellout crowd begins to file into McAfee Coliseum. More to come throughout the afternoon.

this week i was really mad. I mean has shanahan lost his mind. Why would you take a practice squad guy and switch him with Mike Bell a running back who has proven to be able to be starter over Tatum Bell. Why would he do this. It really angerd me. And then also Nash did really bad and proved Shanahan wrong. Shanhan said that he put nash in becuase he practiced hard. Well he did not play hard at all. And why is Tatum still starter?
