Broncos-Bears: Fourth-Quarter and Overtime Notes

November 25th, 2007 - 5:52pm by Andrew

5:50 P.M. CST: I can’t help but think of the words of Bill Murray, a noted Chicago sports fan, during one of the closing scenes of Tootsie after Dustin Hoffman’s character reveals himself after going in drag the entire movie: “That is one … nutty … hospital.” To paraphrase, this is one nutty game.

5:51 P.M. CST: Broncos continuing to move … now at the Denver 34.

5:52 P.M. CST: The security blanket is smothering the Bears … A great 41-yard reception by Tony Scheffler takes him to 68 yards on four catches … moves the Broncos to the Chicago 25.

5:53 P.M. CST: Timeout, Denver … 12:08 on the clock.

5:55 P.M. CST: Brandon Marshall still having some trouble with the footing … he slips while cutting upfield, but his seven-yard catch-and-run has the Broncos at the Chicago 14 for the first down.

5:57 P.M. CST: Unbelievable … both Mannings — Ricky Jr. and Danieal — were entangled with Scheffler as a Cutler pass came into the end zone … somehow, Scheffler makes the grab by using his body to snag the pass before the football hits the ground … touchdown, Broncos.

5:59 P.M. CST: Best news of all for the Broncos on the play? The fact that Lance Briggs kicked the football, good for an unsportsmanlike conduct foul that will allow Todd Sauerbrun to kick off from the Denver 45.

6 P.M. CST: Video boards here showing Devin Hester’s previous kickoff return to try and fire up the crowd.

6:02 P.M. CST: Hester standing in the back of the end zone … something tells me that unless this ball goes out of the end zone, No. 23 is running it back.

6:03 P.M. CST: And … Sauerbrun kicks it away from Hester and not to the end zone. Bears take over at their 28.

6:05 P.M. CST: Tim Crowder now has four sacks in three games … He slams into Rex Grossman as the quarterback steps forward and out of the pocket … Ian Gold recovers, and the exodus has begun with some spectators streaming down the aisles and to the exits.

6:06 P.M. CST: Well, that pitchout didn’t work … and Hall loses eight yards after getting the ball with Mark Anderson bearing down upon him … Hall is now back below 100 yards, at 96.

6:09 P.M. CST: After a three-and-out, the Broncos’ special-teams issues continue, as Todd Sauerbrun’s punt is blocked by Charles Tillman … Brandon McGowan is among a pack of Bears that eventually flag down the football back at the Denver 18 … The exodus in the stands stops, and the fans are on their feet.

6:11 P.M. CST: Bears now at the 4-yard-line after John Gilmore slips and falls after receiving a pass … Clock now under six minutes.

6:12 P.M. CST: Adrian Peterson was swarmed … but he powered through a high tide of Broncos, refusing to hit the ground and eventually moving the scrum into the end zone … touchdown, Bears … 5:17 left, and Denver’s lead is just 34-27.

6:16 P.M. CST: Broncos will take over at their 30.

6:18 P.M. CST: There’s one first down … Broncos now at their 42 … Clock about to go under four minutes.

6:19 P.M. CST: Not much room available on the ground right now … Broncos now have third-and-10 after both Andre Hall and Cecil Sapp can’t find much room … Bears have used two timeouts this series.

6:22 P.M. CST: Cutler playfaked to Cecil Sapp on third-and-10 … Jay Cutler was promptly sacked by Adewale Ogunleye … Clock continuing to run; Bears will conserve their remaining timeout … Denver calls timeout with 3:07 left; the Broncos are now out of timeouts.

6:24 P.M. CST: Hester had trouble fielding the punt … Chicago manages to recover with 2:58 left. Bears take over at their 35.

6:26 P.M. CST: Third-and-10 now … Grossman’s pass for Greg Olsen pass goes incomplete … Bears with one timeout and 2:42 left … They have to go for it, you’d reckon.

6:27 P.M. CST: Fourth down fails … but it doesn’t matter … illegal contact on Dre’ Bly for shoving Muhsin Muhammad … five yards and a first down … Bly was flagged for shoving Muhammad as he ran his route … potentially a killer penalty.

6:31 P.M. CST: Rashied Davis with the reception …2 1 yards and the Bears are at the 31 … Now inside the 20 after a pass to Muhammad … Clock is no longer a factor now … So the Bears run… Adrian Peterson runs to the 7-yard-line.

6:32 P.M. CST: Clock continuing to run … Bears now at the 3-yard-line … Chicago calls timeout with 36 seconds left … They are out of timeouts … Bears now in third-and-goal at the 3.

6:33 P.M. CST: Grossman for Bernard Berrian with Karl Paymah all over him … incomplete.

6:34 P.M. CST: Touchdown, bears … Berrian makes the grab in the right corner of the end zone … Berrian got the grab in front of Champ Bailey …. he got one knee down, but it looked as though his elbow was out of bounds. It’s being replayed.

6:37 P.M. CST: Touchdown. Soldier Field explodes. The Broncos have lost a 14-point lead in the final five minutes.

6:39 P.M. CST: Broncos get the ball at their 33 with 21 seconds left … They have no timeouts remaining.

6:40 P.M. CST: Cecil Sapp runs for 12 yards and a first down … Broncos spike it with four seconds remaining … False start … Ten-second clock runoff … overtime.

6:42 P.M. CST: Broncos call heads … and the toss comes up tails. Chicago will receive.

6:44 P.M. CST: A squibber — or “worm burner” as Dan Dierdorf repeatedly calls it — is returned by Devin Hester just four yards to the Chicago 24. Broncos desperately need a stop.

6:45 P.M. CST: Desmond Clark got behind the entire Denver defense … Chicago in field-goal range now with one play … at the Denver 37.

6:47 P.M. CST: Bears now at the Broncos 25, keeping it on the ground.

6:48 P.M. CST: Five-yard holding penalty on Alvin McKinley … Bears now at the Chicago 20 with a first down.

6:50 P.M. CST: Bears calling on Robbie Gould on second down … It will be a 39-yard attempt … it’s good; game over.

It would be nice if the defense and the special teams would play like they want to win.

    What the hell happened?

  2. broncoinexile says:

That’s what happens when you burn your third time out for stupidity.

  3. broncoinexile says:

brian, bly is the moron that kept the bears drive alive with his stupid penalty on FOURTH down.

That’s not even a rookie mistake.

  4. milehightd.com says:

I can’t believe that Jim Bates is still employed. How in the hell do you give up two touchdowns in less than 10 minutes with a 14 point lead?

  5. brianbronco24 says:

true…. but thats one mistake… bailey has been thrown on all this season….. its as if no one is afriad of the CHAMP anymore and he gets burned on deep passing routes…… even BLY has more interceptions than him….. he was a shut down corner…. now he looks like a wide open cornerback. Pass defense was over rated this season.

  6. broncoinexile says:

Luckily, grossman is not favre. Although our defense has done their best to make him look like it today.

Will the defense please step up and play like they want to win?

  7. elway1973 says:

    we’re finished

  8. broncoinexile says:

bates is a genius. I have never seen a defense like this.

At least not one where the coach kept his job on Monday.

  9. brianbronco24 says:

CALL IT A SEASON BOYS….. BRONCOS ARE DONE…..

  10. SaloRB says:

What a way to lose a game

  11. Crush53 says:

That is the most pathetic effort I’ve seen since…Detroit

  12. Vinci says:

I bet all those people that left the game early to get a jump on traffic are kicking themselves!

  13. West Coast says:

I swear to God we have to have the worst coaching staff I have ever seen. If I were Pat I would can all there asses and make them walk home. I am not even kiding. 21 special team points? Who was the Jackass that said we would go after Hester. I have to go outside and get some air beacuse I am going to lose it.

  14. broncoinexile says:

Andrew, does the organization expect us to buy the same BS this week?

We just tanked a game against a crappy team where we threw away a 14 point lead in 5 minutes. And the only reason it was just a 14 point lead is because of the play of our special (ed) teams.

I hate to agree with brianbronco, but this team plays like they just don’t care. The defense is pathetic, the coaching is questionable at best and there is no motivation to play well.

If this is how they dedicate the season to Darrent, he may not want it.

To get beat is one thing, to beat yourselves is worse; but to just go through the motions and get pushed around is sad.

  15. bert428 says:

What a surprise. The Defense can’t hold a 14 point lead with 5 minutes and the special teams is responsible for 21 point defecit. Keep the offense, Shanahan and Fire everybody else staring with all the cornerbacks and safeties.

  16. brianbronco24 says:

THIS GAME JUST DEFINES THEIR SEASON… THEIR BEST JUST ISNT GOOD ENOUGH. DENVER’S SUPPOSED “SHUT DOWN” CORNERS GET PASSED ON ALL DAY LONG. THEY MADE REX GROSSMAN LOOK LIKE PEYTON MANNING….. ONLY A HORIBLE DEFENSE IS CAPABLE OF THAT!!!!! AND THE ONLY REASON THAT MIKE SHANAHAN HASN’T FIRED BATES IS BECAUSE IF HE FIRES HIM….. THAN SHANAHAN’S HEAD WILL BE NEXT. I’VE BEEN A DENVER FAN FOR A LONG TIME AND I MUST SAY…. FOR THE SUPPOSED TALENT THAT THEY HAVE…. THEY ARE A SORRY EXCUSE FOR A FOOTBALL TEAM.

  17. broncosfromaway says:

How can the D sleep tonite? Come on, guys. 14 pts lead and against CHICAGO’s offense, you come out with a big L.

  18. maceano says:

WOW you wanna talk about a bad player! Lets mention Todd Sauerbrun who has to be one of the worst punters let alone football players ever. The guy has no leg and no athleticism at ALL!!! Its funny you hear all week how this guy is gonna kick the ball to hester and how he is unafraid. He really put a foot in his mouth didnt he! He is PATEHTIC Denver put a ton of effort into this game and TODD LOST THE GAME FOR US. HEY THANKS A LOT TODD SAUERBRUN!!! Your a real team player buddy!!! Yeah Right!

  19. bronx2729 says:

Is there someone I can write a letter to about the refs?

    Stole TD away from Hamzah
No call on assisting runnr into end zone
Penalty on Bly for carressing reciever on 4th down
taking away Stokely catch for first down
pass interference on Scheffler deep catch, no call

not one to be a sore loser to blame refs, but those were game changing and possibly season changing calls.

Sauerbrun and Shannahan kicking to Hester Ridiculous. ST’s attrocious.
Very dissappointing. Defense played great until last 2 drives…where did they go?

  20. WhidbeyBronco says:

    Nice @#$!ing special teams!
    Nice coaching! NNOOTT!!
Gawd we don’t look anything like Mike S’s Broncos.
I’ve supported him all year long and suppose I still will but he better get himself some staff he trusts cuz he CLEARLY can’t handle it all himself!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. West Coast says:

Please dont blame the refs for our average at best football team. Our football tean is average at best and our coaching staff has to be near the bottom of the barrel. do not even think about accusing me of not being a fan. I was a fan way before this coaching staff and I will be a fan way after there sorry asses leave. Now do you agree with me in bringing in Bill Cower?:

  22. dbroncfan says:

Well I have had it, Mike S. needs to go. It starts with the head coach just like in my job, and I don’t get paid the millions that they do. I have watched enough mike s. games that I called the plays and the outcome in the last 5 min. of the game and it turned out just like i thought. I AM NOW IN CAPS BECAUSE I AM SO MAD. IT IS MIKES JOB TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DON’T KICK TO HESTER, IT IS MIKES JOB TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN WE COME OUT AT THE HALF THAT WE ARE PREPARED AND WE RUN 3 RUN PLAYS AND THEN PUNT WICH LED TO DEVIN HESTERS TOUCHDOWN. THEN MIKE IS SUPPOSE TO MAKE SURE THAT HIS KICK RETURNER, GLEN LETS THE BALL GO OUT ON THE NEXT PLAY AND WE WOULD HAVE IT AT THE 40 INSTEDAD WE GOT A PENALTY, AND WE START FROM THE 8. THEN MIKE SHOULD KNOW THAT TOO MANY TEAMS IN THE NFL ARE GOOD WITH THE 2 MIN. OFFENSE AND SURE ENOUGH THEY SCORED TWO TOUCHDOWNS IN THAT TIME, WOW ALSO IF WE WOULD HAVE COME INTO THE GAME WITH A GAMEPLAN OF NOT KICKING TO DEVIN THEN HIS 2 TOUCHDOWNS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A FACTOR AND WE WOULD NOT BE PLAYING CATCH UP. I MEAN WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO FINISH GAMES AND WE DON’T WE GET CONSERVATIVE THAT IS PATHETIC TO GET PAID MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN THIS BUSINESS AND THE FANS HAVE TO PUT UP WITH IT. I JUST RIPPED UP MY SUPERBOWL SHIRT BECAUSE THIS IS HORRIBLE, PATHETIC, DISGUSTING, AND FLAT OUT EMBARRASING WE JUST DON’T WANT IT BAD ENOUGH, SO I AM SORRY TO SAY THAT MIKE NEEDS TO GO AND IT IS HIS FAULT FOR OUR LOSS AGAIN. THANKS MIKE. SORRY BUT BEING THE HEAD COACH YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE AND WE NEED SOME FRESH BLOOD I AM WILLING TO START OVER AGAIN. BUT I AM TIRED OF BUYING DENVER PRODUCT,TIRED OF CHEERING, TIRED OF STANDING UP FOR US WE NEED SOMETHING NEW LATER MIKE, YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE. I KNOW IT IS NOT ALL YOUR FAULT, BUT YOU ARE IN CHARGE AND LIKE IN MY BUSINESS IF I DON’T PERFORM THEN IT IS SEE YA LATER AS WELL. WELCOME TO BEING A HEAD COACH. NO MORE BLOGS FOR ME….

  23. WhidbeyBronco says:

Awwww I’m so pissed right now. Do I dare break it down to the poor coaching? No, I’m sure someone else will.
Well, …Bell? Kicking to Hester? Squib kicking from our 45? MORE WASTED TIME OUTS? The draw at the end of regulation instead of throwing down the field and hoping?
There are more coaching errors but…
The early whistle that kept us from scoring on the grossman fumble recovery?
The Stokely incompletion that wasn’t overturned for a first down.
    The Redzone field goals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The amazing catch in the enzone to tie the game… ouch.

    @#$%!

  24. heffery says:

What a Joke. Three things are very obvious after this game. 1. Mike Shanahan has lost his ability to put teams away. After the last turnover they do nothing but run the ball. Mike, it’s time to go. 2. Dre Bly has, is and will always be a loser. He comes from a losing team, and has brought that attitude and play with him, he has cost us two games. Cut him now. 3. The special teams coach, Todd Saurbraun, and any player on special teams should be cut, fired and sent packing right now. The Broncos win that game by 3 touchdowns if the special teams are just ordinary. We have, by far, the worst special teams in the NFL.

  25. dbroncfan says:

IT IS NOT THE CORNERBACKS, NOT THE OFFENSE, NOT EVEN THE DEFENSE, IT IS THE HEAD COACHES JOB TO MAKE SURE THAT HIS TEAM IS RUNNING THE PLAYS THAT WE ARE SUPPOSE TO EXECUTE, DEFENSE DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO DO EXCEPT IN OT BUT THAT IS TO BE EXPECTED THAT SOME PLAYS ARE GOING TO GO FOR THE OTHER TEAM, BUT WHEN YOU KICK TO DEVIN, OR NOT BEING AGRESSIVE AND SIT BACK ON A 14 PT. LEAD THAT IS UP TO THE COACHES BUT WHAT DO YOU EXPECT OUT OF A CRAPPY COACHING STAFF THAT IS WILLING TO KEEP DOING THE SAME THING OVER AGAIN. LOOK AT THE COACHES FOR NEW ENGLAN EVEN WITH SPY GATE, HE HAS SHOWN HOW TO REGROUP TOGETHER AS A TEAM AND WE CANT GET IT RIGHT. IT ALL STARTS WITH THE COACHES.

  26. broncoc says:

I can’t believe that we lost after a 14 point lead! We made Rex Grossman look like Tom Brady! Unbelieveable!! We suck!

  27. WhidbeyBronco says:

    Cower no.
    Keep Mike.
Kidnap Kubiak and bring him home.
Maybe Elway could come in and coordinate?
    Maybe we’ll get healthy?
    See ya next year.
But I can’t even say that yet cuz the Broncos like to wait to the very last possible moment before removing all hope and breaking my heart.

Here’s to the rest of a very painful season…
    ahh more booze please

    GO Mother@#$%ing Broncos!!

    never give up

  28. West Coast says:

dbroncfan….I have to agree. Kicking to Hester as many times as we did and then aferwards talking about how great he is makes me want to puke. I am so pissed right now I do not even know what to say. Not making the playoffs last year was not acceptable and we fired most of out coaches. We suck even more this year so whos ass are we going to can. Let me help you Mr. Bowlen…..Shanny, Bates and Scotty. Can there asses

  29. killa b's 24-32 says:

    today,
I was ashamed to be a broncos fan.

I don’t get why we even started to kick to Devinh Hester.

  30. buckeyebronco says:

I just want to throw up. To play so well and dominate a game and yet give it up on stupid mistakes is painful. This is a young team with a lot of promise, I hope this loss hurts and they learn from it.

  31. underdog8 says:

I know many of you are rightly criticizing the team for blowing a game they should’ve had in hand – both special teams and the defense really fell apart when they needed them most (and what happened to the pass rush that was so great in the first half??)

but I do wonder what Andrew thinks about that TD call that they reviewed and then allowed? Again, there are many other reasons they lost this game, and the Bears shouldn’t have even had a shot at the end, but that seemed like such an obvious overturn, I don’t understand why they kept it – was it a hometown call? Or did they see something I didn’t?

I was watching in a bar here in SF (with other Broncos fans, and Bears fans, and then a lot of drunken Niners fans, but never mind them)… so I couldn’t hear everything the ref said after the review, but I was so sure he was out of bounds I was shocked. He had one leg down, and then his butt hit out of bounds. He didn’t have possession of the ball when that other foot first nicked the grass (if it even did). What an awful, awful call.

But again, they should’nt have even gotten to that point – t hey had the game in hand, totally dominated the Bears, then they kicked to Hester once too much, and then the defense collapsed.

This would’ve been a key win, a huge win, instead it’s a sour loss. Winning at Chicago is not easy of course, but when your team dominates for so much of it you need to come away with a “W.”

    I’m a sad panda….

  32. WhidbeyBronco says:

Do u kow how many Rings Elway won before Shanny?
Do U know how many good teams have never won a ring?
Mike gave us two!! I Still remember the four losses. I still remember the two
    INCREDIBLY relieving wins.

    Thank you Mike S.!

That, in my eyes buys you a pass. Get your sh!t together now. Please? Or else?

    there goes another bottle
    nope still feel like sh!t

  33. TXBronxFan100 says:

Todd Sauerbrun is a complete idiot after the comments he made this week. The special teams were horrible. They were completely unprepared for Hester.

The broncos just can’t put it all togeather this year. They seem to get on a roll and then stumble and lose in a stupid way like today. Shanny was way too conservative calling plays in the second quarter when it seemed like we were happy to run three times and punt every possession. The D was actually pretty good until it counted and then they folded like a cheap lawn chair. Champ got beat for the game tying TD, so nothing went right late in the game.

They will win the division if they win the rest of their games, but I highly doubt they can do that.

  34. WhidbeyBronco says:

possession and a knee down in the endzone constitute a touchdown. What a great catch of a SORRY-ASS pass!

    glug glug
    nope not yet

  35. AustinBroncsFan says:

What a heart-breaker. Hope Sauerbrun gets a locker-room wedgie to learn respect for balls being returned!

Never giving up on them though… Season ain’t over.. (more heartache to come!)

  36. WhidbeyBronco says:

By the way… Great job Hall!! And Marshall? Amazing game!! Cutler? one full year & counting… really good & getting better and better. Sheffler? Great. Paymah? excellent. Sauerbrun? Idiot. (for your comments & your coaching …oh and your NICE TACKLING!!)

    Glug

  37. tjsokkerplayer says:

GO BEARS!!!!!!!! woooooooohoooooooooo, the bears are the best team ever, and the broncos stink!!!!!

  38. BearFanJBK says:

    Broncos Fans,

I’m a Bear fan living in Chicago and I can honestly say that I completely understand your frustration. The Bears are who we thought they were and you let us off the hook. The bears are a bad team and the Bronco’s gave them a gift today. From what I can tell your coach made some very questionable decisions, i.e. kicking to hester (are you out of your mind!).

    BearFanJBK

  39. AustinBroncsFan says:

Agree, WhidbeyBronco – Hall came outa nowhere and smoked! Marshall also had a great game and was fun to watch! He can give Sbrun the wedgie.

  40. underdog8 says:

Btw, just giving myself a perspective check as much as anyone else, but this seemed like the toughest game on their remaining schedule – along with the game at San Diego of course. If they can’t beat the Raiders next week they don’t deserve to make the playoffs . They can still do it, but they have to go 4-1 at least.

  41. WhidbeyBronco says:

bearfan: Ha U help a bit. Wow this game can be frustrating when u live and breathe with your team!
Good luck the rest of your also PAINFUL season. (And put Brian G back in as soon as poss.)

    glug
    dribble glug

  42. go cutler says:

im really lost for words i really believe the defense got tired at the end of the game are offense played a great game 34 pts. should be enough to beat any team on any givnen day. lets get ready to beat the raiders . the season is not over at all lets look ahead its easy to give up. but lets look forward . jays getting better i like the option thought the offensive line played good . i still believe go broncos!1!

  43. brianbronco24 says:

now coach shanny is going to do the post game review…. he’s going to stay calm… and he’s going to say (in a calm voice),”our special teams just didn’t get it done today, we had good field position but couldn’t get touchdowns in the redzone, there were a few punts that just got away from todd and our defense was just out of gas at the end. I’m not going to start playing for next season because i don’t believe in that. We offense wise… we had a great game…. but it ended up being a bad one because we lost. Now we’ll focus on the next game at hand.” WHAT THE HELL SHANNY? DO YOU EVER GET EMOTIONAL ABOUT ANYTHING? DO YOU NOW WHAT YOUR RECORD IS? YOU ARE 5 AND 6!!!! YOU HAVE TO WIN EVERY SINGLE GAME FROM HERE ON OUT… AND YOU’VE ALL BEEN SAYING LIKE YOUR’E PLAYING AS IF EVERY GAME IS A PLAYOFF GAME! WELL THIS IS EXACTLY HOW THE PLAYOFFS WOULD GO….. (BUT IT WOULD PROBABLY OLY BE WORSE)! IF YOU REALLY WANTED TO PLAY EVERYGAME LIKE A PLAYOFF GAME YOU WOULD FIRE THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATER. HE MAY NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BLOWN COVERAGE….. BUT HE IS RESPONSILE FOR THE PLACES HE PUTS THEM…. AND ALL THIS SEASON THE DEFENSE HAS JUST SIMPLY BEEN OUT OF POSITION! HOW DO YOU GO FROM 2ND BEST RUSH DEFENSE TO 32ND IN ONE YEAR?!!!!! IF SHANNY DOESN’T FIRE BATES…. THAN WE NEED A COACH WITH THE BALLS TO DO SO! YES I’M PISSED… ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER BRONCOS FANS OUT THERE! WE ARE DISSAPOINTED…. THIS TEAM HAS SO MUCH TALENT….. BUT LOOKS LIKE A PREP FOOTBALL TEAM MOST OF THE TIME(ON DEFENSE…. AND NOW ON SPECIAL TEAMS)! WE HAVE A PUNTER WHO TALKS TRASH….. AND CAN’T BACK IT UP! WE MADE REX GROSSMAN LOOK LIKE TOM BRADY…. AND WE SUPPOSEDLY HAVE TWO OF THE BEST CORNERS IN THE NFL????? SHANNY… THIS SEASON IS DONE.. FIRE BAITES AND WORK ON NEXT YEAR! HEY… WHAT’S THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN…. US NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS? LOOKS LIKE IT’S GOING TO HAPPEN ANYWAY…. SO ON WITH THE FIRING!!!! ANYONE AGREE WITH ME?

  44. tjsokkerplayer says:

naaaa, the Bears deserved to win that game no doubt about it, the bears defense let go a couple of plays to cutler, like they do with every qb. But in the end everyone can yell at the the broncos coahes for thinking they can stop Devin Hester and jinxing themselves, but we all know the better team won today!!!! AND THAT TEAM, TO RUB IT IN SOME MORE, LOL, IS THE CHICAGO BEARS!!!!!

    GO BEARS!!!!!!!!

  45. underdog8 says:

I’m sorry, but any team that is so dependent on a kick returner – who is clearly the gist of their offense, and has a formerly proud defense so easily beat (and yes I will criticize the Broncos defense for also gagging today) – but how can that team be called “superior”? I don’t even think knowledgeable Bears fans (two of whom I watched the game with today) would make that claim. At least Denver’s offense is balanced!

Now kudos to the Bears for coming back and their offense did show signs of life and came back, but I don’t know how anyone can watch that game and clearly think the Bears are the better team… Well, whatever, more power to you and good luck the rest of the season. Hope Benson isn’t hurt too badly.

Btw, no mention of the fact that the Broncos *third string* running back started the game and ran all over the place?

  46. orygunbronco says:

What a homecoming for Shanny:( And like or not folks, that was an exciting game to watch.Pretty easy to criticize bad decisions, they were in a must win situation,we move into second place in the division and live to fight another day.We had some amazing football players come up big tonight, and we keep getting a little better evry week.Keep the faith and hold on,the best is yet to come.

  47. BearFanJBK says:

    Guys,

The bears stink. Face it, your coaching staff cost you the game today. No doubt about it. Kicking to Hester, playing conservative with the lead. That typically adds up to a loss in this league. One thing that was obvious though is you guys have a nice young QB in the making. It could be worse, you could be stuck with Grossman.

    BearsFanJBK

  48. WhidbeyBronco says:

    glug

  49. 07elway says:

Well, I’m pretty much sick to my stomach. That ending was just awful and a royal pain to watch. I didn’t know our defense could just die like that. That was almost worse than our D against SD or Detroit. Champ Bailey – I love you, you play with heart but seriously you should have been all over that guy like dip on a chip, you know the guy that scored the game-tying TD. I’ll always have faith but that game tested it pretty good.

Now for a little chit chat with Saurbaun – what on earth were you thinking? That was some pretty testy coaching advice you gave out before the game and to actually go through with it – you’re officially declared NUTS!!!! and outside your little mind. I can’t believe you would actually kick the ball to that guy, that’s just too risky, enough to cost us the game. Let me ask you, was kicking the ball to him unafraid really worth it?? I think not.

And to agree with underdog8 about the first part of the last comment. If anyone were to look at the stats, or just watch the game over again except for the last 10 minutes, the Broncos dominated that game. Cutler’s rating flew through the sky after that one play TD scoring drive to Marshall. That alone spoke volumes about those 2 guys, the rest of our offense and about how the Bears have deteriorated. That was probably the best move Cutler’s made all year, let alone through his 16 game career. He’s improving beyond alot of people’s expectations, and he’s becoming the QB we expected him to be. Just hope he doesn’t get traded or anything like that after this season. We have to keep him – we’re doomed if we get stuck with Ramsey or whoever we have left. Cutler’s just starting to get into the groove of things in Denver, let him keep improving, we need him. We haven’t a QB like this since Elway, there I said it again and I’ll keep saying it.

Anyway, back to the Broncos dominating the game – well they did the whole way till the last dreadful 10 minutes. Why give those stinky Bears the chance to come back? We had that game, our defense just fell over, died and never came back. They better not do that when we go the ‘Black hole’ next Sunday – I’ll fall over and die. And they better not do it when KC goes to Denver, hopefully I’ll be at that game. Well, I’m sick from just thinking about the dreadful ending to a dominated game. Would love to know what in the world happened out there. So much for a welcome home for Shanny. I still love him, he’s been a great coach and we can surely pull through next week. Although San Diego winning definitely didn’t help, I’ve still got faith.

I would however like to make a suggestion to the benefit of our guys playing better… I would highly recommend having one of those “player-only” meeting before every game. If there’s any way our guys can grasp that concept, we’d be on fire. It seemed to work pretty well before the KC & Tennessee games, no reason why it wouldn’t work before any other games. With faith…

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!
