Award Winning Broncos

May 6th, 2008 - 8:13pm by domonique_foxworth

I went to the Denver Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year banquet that I went to on Friday. I was there with Champ and Boss Bailey, who came with his wife. It was my second year going, I went the year before. It’s always a great function because it is a big fundraiser. They raise tons and tons of money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

They honor somebody every year – last year they honored Pat Hamill, who is the Chairman of Oakwood Homes. He and I have become friends since then. This year, they honored Pat Bowlen, who is one of my favorite people in the world, he signs my checks. I guess I have to change my name to Pat to be honored by them.

It’s a great event to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club. One of the cool things about it is the entertainment is singing and dancing and poems written and performed by kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. It’s always impressive because the kids are really, really talented. Since I’m normally at the Boys and Girls Club once a week – the Broncos branch – I know a lot of the kids that won and I know a lot of the kids that performed. So, it’s very personal which is pretty cool.

They introduced myself, Champ and Boss which is kinda funny because they said, “We’re happy to have Domonique Foxworth here for another year and Champ Bailey and his brother.” We gave Boss a hard time about that the whole night because at least three of the people who got on stage referred to them as Champ Bailey and Champ Bailey’s brother which is hilarious. Boss thought it was funny too.

Toward the end of the night, some guy got on stage and actually said his name which kinda ruined our fun, but it was nice that he got some recognition outside of being Champ’s brother. I know what it feels like because I have an older brother, so growing up I was “Little Dion.” Everybody knew me as “Little Dion” until I got to high school and scored a lot of touchdowns. Then he was “Big Domonique” I guess. He was smaller than me by then, so he was “Little Dion.” Nobody ever called him that, but they should have. That was probably when I first started to be called by my name and not “Little Dion.”

It’s perfect timing for the week off from training because it coincides really well with my personal life. I’m heading to Washington, D.C. for a friend’s wedding. Rest time is very important. This is the same friend I talked about last week in the bachelor party thing I was responsible for. I took them to Vegas and we had a great time and did a lot of things. We gave the Bellagio a lot of our money. We had a cool experience.

We drove Indy cars which I don’t know if that will be smiled upon by the Broncos organization, but it was fun. I ended up getting my car up to about 150 m.p.h. around the Las Vegas Speedway. It was a good experience. I got a picture of it which is nice. It is not something I would ever want to do again. I am not a “need for speed” kind of guy. I like cars that look fast, but I don’t like to actually drive them fast. It does not excite me. I like to drive slow so you can see how nice my car is. The Indy Speedway was really cool and a lot of fun.

I also did a stop smoking ad. I’m not sure if it is airing yet, but it was for 1-800-QUIT-NOW, the Colorado Quit Line. I’ve found myself in a lot of commercials, but I take pride in the commercials I do being for good causes. The collegeincolorado.org commercials I do are extremely important to teens in Colorado and I think the stop smoking ad is also something that could be important to teens and young adults. I guess by the time you get old and continue to smoke, it’s difficult to stop. I take a lot of pride in doing public service announcements for these non-profits.

I am enjoying the NBA playoffs especially my ACC brethren — CP3 — Chris Paul, is having a heck of a playoffs. I’m a big fan. I like guards and the small guys because when I fantasize about being a decent basketball player, I’m always a guard. I like playing basketball, but my shot is just too inconsistent. I think I’m athletic enough and I guess I would say that I’m tall enough considering guys like Allen Iverson is in the league and a lot of guys who are around 6-feet, I could pull it off, but my shot is too inconsistent and I can’t handle the ball nearly as well. I’m pretty much just an athlete. I’m actually a football player, but when I play basketball, I’m just an athlete on the court. It does not make for a very good player. I’m a hustle man, I get all the rebounds and play good defense.

I’m kinda rooting for the New Orleans Hornets now that the Nuggets are out. I would like to see that young team make a run. I need to pick somebody other than the Los Angeles Lakers because Hamza (Abdullah), is one of my closest friends, is from Los Angeles and he loves the Lakers. I need to find somebody to cheer for and root against him. The last few years, he hasn’t had much to talk about so we’ve all been on him talking about how bad the Lakers are. Now, he is in heaven, so I’ve been kinda happy for him, but not too happy. CP3 is going to take him down.

I’m not a big hockey fan except for the Broncos hockey team. They had their season opener I went to and they won, I think the final was 8-4 (editor’s note — 8-6). A couple of my good friends scored some goals. Mike “Harry” Harrington and Kenny Chavez scored, Chris “Flip” Valenti played well in goal. That’s really the only hockey I watch, but I did watch the Avs in the playoffs just because I try to be a true Coloradoan. I try to cheer for and support all of the Colorado teams. The Rockies have been a little inconsistent, but they are a late-charge team and I’m sure they’ll be great like last year.

All ready!

Wow. What an honor this is to be the first one who posts on this blog. As always, Domonique, athletes such as yourself can impact youth in a way that average stiffs such as myself never can. I broadcast on the radio and write articles for midutahradio.com. Who cares? On the other hand, it’s so cool for these youth to have a Denver Bronco attend their functions. As a Broncos fan from afar, I always thought it would be awesome if John Elway, Shannon Sharpe or Steve Atwater could come to south central Utah and watch me in my time of triumph. Just keep doing what you’re doing. While I’m not affected by your charity being outside of Colorado, you still give me great joy when you make great plays for my beloved Broncos. As for the NBA playoffs, the Mavs and Suns are the teams I like, but since they’re both out, I’m pulling for my home-state Jazz as well as the Hornets. Seeing Deron Williams facing off against Chris Paul in the Western Conference Finals would rock. In the East, go Magic! As for Las Vegas, Caesar’s Palace and the Rio are the best, but the Belaggio’s pretty good. Hopefully, you give me some love for being the first to post this week, but that’s up to you. Thanks again, Domonique. We all love you!!!

Haha that’s funny “Champ Bailey’s Brother”. I also have an older brother (2 older brothers) my full bro Ant is 23 (6 years older than me) and known as Sivo so they all call me “little Sivo” which is funny because I am 6’0 235 and he is 5’8 186. Kinda like Champ and Boss. The Bellagio is amazing. I told you about it in my last post so no need to go on and on about the same thing…I just got done watching the Celtics beat the Cavs and I am shocked that Sugar Ray got held scoreless in 37 mins….WOW. CP3 is nasty but my favorite player(2) is Rondo and Ray Allen I also love Peirce. BTW My bro and I hate L.A. haha. But we love Hamza ( I get him into the Broncos because I don’t shut up about you guys so he grew to like you guys 2nd)Everyone is getting married. Ellis Hobbs just got married a couple of weeks ago…..Well talk to ya next time Pat Foxworth……….

  3. The_Gipper says:

i have to say that Foxworth is a great person. and it makes me proud to know that hes on the team i root for every sunday. i would love to see him playing opposite Champ Bailey in the starting lineup one day.
    keep it up Fox.

    All Ready!

  4. ncheel2 says:

Way to go Fox. Your volunteering and off field positive work just proves that you guys are human as we are and have sacrificed a lot to do good for others. The boys and girls clud is important to our community and many young people need the attention and extra help. I like that you take time to relax and get ready for the season, because many folks really don’t understand what it takes to maintain excellence on the field, being that it is a gruling year. Reality, is that you guys prepare and practice year-round, because if you don’t you may not make the team. We’re (most bronco fans) are just glad you are here and is a key player on the team. Can’t wait to see you start more games at the corner as you deserve, or will take you as a 3d corner and nickle, as that is tough to play also with such a small space. Thanks for being a bronx.

    Foxy,
I use to be called Marty’s Little Sister, since 1st grade till all of my brothers friends graduated high school. So I definently know how that is, I would try and get my friends to go up to my brother and call him Ashley’s Older Brother, but that didnt catch on.

I just saw your Quit Smoking Ad on TV last night!

Bummer on the Nuggets, and the AV’s. Rockies are struggling, pitching needs to improve for sure, because our guys are swinging the bat pretty well. Last nights game was exciting because the Rockies rallied in the 9th and scored 3 runs to go from 2-6 to 5-6.

    Always enjoy reading your blogs!

That’s so funny what happened to Boss! That actually happened to my mom one year when we went to San Diego. My cousin introduced us as “My cousin Matt, my little cousin Nicole and his sister.” :) I’m sure it happens fairly often.

I just finished my last day of my 2nd year in college today :) Its good to see a public figure and athlete so interested in pushing higher education.

Tell your boy Chris to light up San Antonio for us!! Have fun at the wedding!

  8. #80fan says:

Hopefully, the Cardinals will sweep the Rockies.

  9. matt203 says:

Im going for the hornets too because i hate the spurs. since the nuggets are out im going for any team thats not the spurs or the celtics. Thats hilarious about Boss. With the name thing i have an older brother and too and they always refer to me as Patrick’s bro or some thing like that. Take Care

All I have to say is, I’m a Broncos fan when it comes to football, but a Red Wings fan for sure when it comes to hockey. And I won’t lie, it was pretty fun for me watching that series…especially since one of my good friends like the Avs so he was of course trash talking before it began.

Not so much after it was over.

Another good blog, man. Always fun to hear about what’s going on, even in the offseason. Also, I don’t know what Boss’s real name is either. I know Champ’s, but not his brother’s. Ok, I just wanted to get in on the joke there. Good times.

  11. jmonk says:

boss’ real name is rodney i blieve.

Well, im stuck here at school. reading for my finals at the University of Oslo. And as always i go to my favorite teams web page, and to my great surprise, I see that D-Fox has posted a new blog. Well as few know, Oslo is the capital of Norway, (way up north) and Broncos have about 2 fans here. Cool story actually, i moved to east side of Oslo, and in a window right a cross the street of my apartment I see two Broncos helmets!! WHat are the chances? A BRONCO FAN ACROSS THE STREET??? Hm. so the other day i had to ring the door and find out. AND SURE enough, he is, has and will always be a Bronco fan. He is about 40 years older then me, but FINALLY I HAVE ANOTHER BRONCO FAN IN THIS COUNTRY…. its like 4th of july and may 17th at the same time (may 17th is our national day). Any ways what i really came here to say is this. D-Fox, i hope you never leave our team, and next year or the year after (depending on cash) that when i get to fly over for a game i get to see you on Invesco field doing what the Fox is supposed to do for the Broncos!!! Keep ut the good work, and you have AT LEAST TWO FANS IN NORWAY. (we talked about the Fox, and we both agreed Broncs need a guy like you, and Denver to).
Have fun, enjoy some good B-ball games. CP3 for MVP, Boston LOSE!!!!

    TOR OUT!!

  13. thorpebroncofan says:

    Fox,
It is great to see you are such a good influence for young people. Keep up the great work. I look forward to watching you this year and I think all the fans can agree we are glad to have you back. One of the things I love most about the Broncos is the teams high quantity of quality people.
I wanted to ask one favor. Will you please put Philip Rivers on his butt this year. :) Take care and we’ll be praying for your health and a successful season.
    Any word on B Marshall?

    Hey Fox,

It’s so good to read and hear about all the work that is going into the Boys and Girls Clubs. What a blessing you and everyone involved are to so many young people. I thank God for you.

Draft day was a blast! I’m very excited about our picks. I’m expecting a good season. So excited!

I hope this message finds you well. Sounds like you have a lot going on. Fun. Just take good care of yourself, ok? Leave them fast cars alone…..

I’m looking forward to seeing you and the rest of my Orange and Blue boys at the Fan Fair. Until then…

    All Ready!

I’m rootin for the Magic all the way, they have been my favorite team since Penny Hardaway. But it is great to see professional athletes give back to the communities in which they live. In my opinion football players over all other athletes are the most generous and down to earth. A lot of them grew up living the lives that a lot of us live today. I have never met anyone from our beloved Broncos but hope to one day. Meeting the team would be a dream come true. And one day I believe it will happen. But until then all I can do is hope.

  16. 1ARABIANKNIGHT says:

Indeed, THORPEBRONCOFAN, you WILL play MY GAME, as you say….
but first, I have to address my new fellow ‘fan-friends’.

I apologize early for wasting blogging space in retort to an “IDIOT”.

    Thankyou JoshSmith17,
for recognizing my point on our team needing a consistent “speedy” receiver, and you are right D. Jackson is a consistent receiver and should put up solid numbers, and just may surprise us all!

    Thankyou Broncomania56,
for concluding that our organization would be able to “coral” his ego and thus have an outstanding receiver, however of a big “If” it may be that we get him.

    To Broncosfrance,
you are right also that we do have a legitimate receiving corps and I’m happy to have them. I have also come to trust the scouting and recruitment of the Bronco’s, for they’ve proven to have a knack for spotting “hidden talent” in a lot of areas. They treat our organization like a Fortune 500 company and really run the “business of football”, good observation.

    To 07Elway,
I didn’t mean I felt “humiliation”, I meant that I am never “above myelf to apologize or accept an apology”… I meant rather, that as a Noble, I choose to (at least I try to lols)remain “HUMBLE” in all my thought’s and opinions, that was the “humility” I referenced to. For the record, we are Very Much so on Good Graces! ;)

Now, ……..To BRONCOSTHORPE, who feels (he or she) is “calling my bluff”
and that “I have spoken dishonorably” and as an [IDIOT]. =/ tisk, tisk, you spoke too soon =(

It seems I have to defend my honor once again, so by all means get a cup of coffee, boot your laptop, and get ready to do some “homework”, for I am now about to assist in your “education”… and anyone else’s for that matter.
Your assignment(s), should you have the “Honor, Courage, and Commitment” to complete it is:

Cut, Copy, and Paste this blog and take it to your nearest Armed Services Recruitment Depot Center, or call. Go to either a US Navy, or US Marine office where you will find a Petty Officer 1st Class (navy) or Staff Seargant (marines) overall in charge at that location.

“In 1775, the Marine Corps came alive”…that is one of the first phrases taught to us in our “elite training”. I am not a S.E.A.L. nor could I ever be…for I am not a good swimmer. But in fact, I am F.M.F. qualified. That stands for Fleet Marine Force, also I am E.S.W.S. That stands for Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist( or e-swass for short).

For those who do not know, throughout U. S. History, the Marine Corps does not like the Navy. In fact they hate us. Because they are known as the Department of the Navy, and not THE NAVY itself.

When in Fact: In 1775, it was the Marines (at that time they were called ‘merchant marines’ or ‘mercenary marines’) who were our “Militia” that help us defeat the British and became a Great Nation, not the Navy!!!!!!
(I assumed Broncosthorpe, that you stayed awake in American History classes).
The US Navy ‘adopted’ these mercenaries into our military, thus “The Department of the Navy”. A title they have always felt that undermined their true accolades. As a result, for some political reason, the Marines Highest Officer known as the Commandant, has never made decisions concerning national security as a part of The Joint Chiefs of Staff. Instead, a Navy Admiral represents the Navy and Marine Corps.

HERE IS MY DIRECT POINT AND DEFENSE TO YOUR STATEMENT.

Of the many recruiting jobs for the US Marine Corps, “MEDICAL” jobs are not one them. That means the Marines don’t have Doctors or hospitals.
These ‘MEDICAL POSITIONS” are provided to the Marines from our Navy.
I stated earlier, and still to this day, —Marines hate Navy—–

    EXCEPT

for US, that’s right …..your’s truly was a Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class, that is: HM3(SW/FMF)!!!!.

The “Elite Cross-Trained Medical Personell” (officer and enlisted) that have
“the Distinguished Honor above all other Navy personell”
to have ‘EARNED THE RESPECT’ of our Beloved Marines on “the front lines”
because we dress as they dress in “cammy’s” and receive an M-16 rifle, along with our standard 9mm, and crawl with them in the trenches. If you’ve ever watched any old war movies besides your favorite tv show “beavis and butthead”, you would have heard the prestigious term, “Corpsmen UP”, when a marine gets wounded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the record of anyone researching this, my unit was 3/4. We seized Bhagdad first, and my unit was “tracks” the unit that pulled the Infamous statue of Sadaam Hussein down!!!! (remember that one)

Now, run along and do your research like a good little beavis…..

WHO’S THE BUTTHEAD NOW, or as you say, IDIOT!!!!

and my men, young as they were, did receive inspiring talks. Because I had the heart not to forsake my belief in God Almighty when I quoted my ancestor David ben Jesse, in saying “Yea, though I walk through the Valley of Death, I will fear no Evil, for Thou art with me” aloud!!!
those words coming from little ol’ me, and not the chaplain was inspiring.
however, the credit and glory goes to God, not me.

so save your pathetic to-be apology and give it to my new friends, they deserve to hear it. I know the truth………I WAS THERE!!!!

    Fox
You don’t know me yet, but it’s nice to meet you anyway.
Forgive Me All if you’ve felt I’ve crashed your blog topic as my above statement is directly in response to a negative insult from Thorpebroncofan and him calling out my honor and integrity.
(please view the most recent statements on Jim’s blog, so this can make sense to anyone.)

for some reason the computer wouldn’t let me post it on Jim’s so I’ve
hunted down Mr. Thorpe to return an answer concerning my Service to Our Country

the above response was to our dialogue on Jim Saccomo’s blog, where i gained some new blogging friends about Jay Cutler’s diabetes condition.
for where Mr. Thorpebroncofan tried to “call my bluff”.

There is your answer……….now do your homework …Chump!!

1ARABIANKNIGHT Dude you have issues. I’m writing this from Iraq. So yep I’m going to call you out when you are stretching the truth and trying to use being in the miltary as a trump card for football converastions. I just want to talk football. Find another site for you to vent your miltary frustrations on.

    Hey Fox,
I completely agree with you about the NBA Playoffs and the NHL. I some of the AV’s games just to try to be a good colorado fan. I was really bummed the nuggets got bumped out but CP3 is the man and I love watching him I hope he manages to take the Hornets all the way but I still think a Lakers v. Celtics match-up would be pretty good!

And 1ARABIANKINGHT- shut up! There are hundreds of other sites that you vent on if you want to talk about the broncos go ahead otherwise shut the fu*k up!

  21. atwaters da man says:

    What’s up Fox,

So happy you stayed! I hope you guys use the 23rd power ranking by ESPN as fuel for this season. That to me is saying that they don’t respect what you guys do and what Coach has done this off-season. I wanted to say something to you with the utmost respect. I have seen your interviews, read your blogs, watched you play and think you are one of the smartest young players in the league. I think sometimes you are so smart that it gets in your way at times. The play that for some reason has made the highlight real over and over is the one against the Chargers where LT has a 12 yard run for a touchdown. You came up and where in position to make the tackle and it looked like you though for a second and in that second LT cut and you didn’t touch him. If you watch it again…if you would have not though and just went full speed ahead you would have leveled him. I think you are in the best position to make the biggest leap in your game in the entire league. You are blessed by being extremely smart. Trust your amazing athletic ability and take DMC’s head off in the first game against the Raiders. Thanks for your time and your blogs!

  22. ncheel2 says:

Atwaters da man, No one really knows the speed that players have on the field. I have seen many players, including Fox, that I thought were in position. They have made great plays-tackles, and sometimes not. These players are fast, and we as fans have no clue as to what could have happened. Even players who have played in the NFL in the past, the speed is much greater now, and they may not have made that play. What I remember on Fox as a highlight reel was the interception in 2005 against Philly, where he stole the ball in the 4Q from a receiver in the inzone, that Mcnabb was passing, and the pick solidfied a win for us. I’d rather have smarts and physical ability as Fox, Humza, and others have, as opposed to just physical ability because the game is much more strategic than in the past. You’ll make more plays and remain healthy with smarts and toughness. So I tend to concentrate on positives and not just one play. I think every player on the team has had a play they wish they could have did better in- the real deal is that we fans really don’t know what those plays are because we are not on the field and are not equipped or skilled to make these assesesments. At Miami where I went to college, we had the best players phisically, but at times they were not smart enough to handle tough situations unless we had a big lead. Hurricanes won games on speed most of the time. I’m glad players like Fox can think as well as rough you up, and he plays 3d corner, nickle, FS/SS also. That smartness kept us in some games. Even Myers who we let go was a smart guy, and many on the team wanted him to be tougher, he now plays in Houston with a $10mill contract. Fox day is coming and if the coaches don’t use him well, someone will get him to help build their team, while our team continues to go down.

I hear u ncheel2 Says:. Im not focusing on just that play I was really trying to give Fox a complement and can’t wait to see him play this year.
Fox I have been one of your biggest fans from day 1. I went to the AFC Championship agianst the Steelers with my boyz from Pittsburgh and was rock’n the 22 jersey. In ur rookie season I really thought u should have started. What really impressed me were the games in ur rookie season that they played u in Nickel on obvious running downs and u were like lightning in a bottle and got in on almost every tackle.
I have a couple more questions for you.
    1) Do you think Lynch should move back SS? (I think it seems like his more natural spot.)
    2) Is Champ doing work with his brother : ) on man to man TE pass coverage? (That could really make our D even more dominant! If we can shut down Gates, Tony G and now Z Miller without the double team… could get ugly!
    3) Do u think we can give some 3-4 looks this year? ( Call me crazy but Elvis and even Moss off the edge with D Robertson, Thomas and Alvin on the line is pretty soild with DJ and Champs Brother(lol). Also R Colvin is still a FA
    4) Are you putting on more wieght or are happy with what the wieght from last year?
    5) Is Josh Barrett Lynch’s shadow? ( I realy though he was going to go earlier. Way earlier¡ From my propective he has all the tools…I just hope he really takes advantage of the resources he has around him, such as yourself)
    6) Please keep us posted on which Rookies impress u early.
Thank you for your time Fox! Good luck with training camp!
If you ever come out to LA I own a couple of really hot clubs and will roll out the red carpet, bottles, dinner the whole 9 : )

PS: DT Rod Coleman would look good in the orange and blue

  24. atwaters da man says:

Watching the replay of the Min vs SD and Rivers is soft! We can return the favor this year! Go Broncos!!!
