Arizona Showdown

December 4th, 2008 - 3:56pm by Ryan Torain

It is snowing like crazy right now. Do I like it? Eh, it is what it is, to talk like a coach.

Anyway, this is a big week. The alma mater Arizona State and Arizona are locking up to close out the season.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get that channel and check the game out. It’s a huge rivalry. Both teams are kind of even talent-wise and in wins. It’s going to be an exciting game. If Arizona State wins, I think we’ll get a chance to go to a bowl game and end the season on that good note.

CLEARLY I’m rooting for A-State. Gotta keep representing the Sun Devils. I won’t be talking much to Spencer Larsen this week, and I always give him a little shoulder every time I walk by him. We joke about that Sun Devils – Wildcats rivalry. I haven’t seen him this week. I might have to give him a call and ask how much he wants to bet. I’m just kidding, but you know it’s all about the bragging rights.

The ASU basketball team is playing well right now, too. I haven’t been following the guys too much — I’ve been a little busy out here trying to get my knee right. But I see they only have one loss, and James Harden is playing like star right now. Arizona State is a great school with great athletes. It’s fun to watch James. I did get the chance to watch him a little bit last year. He’s a heck of a player. Be on the look out for him.

As for me right now, I just started coming back to the facility last week. It’s good to be back at Dove Valley, getting back around the guys, talking, joking. I’m keeping the rehab going.

I haven’t really been able to stay in my playbook like I was doing to pass the time the first time around during rehab. Obviously with the surgery, taking pain pills and all, it’s just not all clear right now. But my plan is to start getting back into the playbook next week.

I’m just trying to keep myself busy for now while I’m doing this rehab. I’ve got a Playstation 3, so I’ve been playing some Grand Theft Auto, Madden, Call of Duty. Just chillin’ and relaxing. I’m not the best at Call of Duty, but, you know, practice makes perfect.

So that’s what’s going for me right now. I figured I’d let you all in on what I’ve been up to now that I’m kind of forced to be away from football from here on out. Let me know what you all would like to hear about and I’ll get you all informed.

Until then, enjoy the snow.

Its good to hear things are going steady, cant wait to see you in training camp next year pushing ahead! I was very optimistic with how you ran. I remember watch your last play when you went down, I said “uh oh he fell wrong” and sure enough you got hurt. But I am sure you will be pumped up and working hard next year, cant wait to see what you can do! Keep busy in that book!

Hey Ryan I heard about this training that Polomalu went through to avoid injury in the offseason in California. Would you consider doing this to become stronger and more durable? Also what do you think of Peyton Hillis. He’s looked pretty good huh. Thats a big man!!! LOL!!!

    Ryan,

I enjoyed watching you play ball at ASU. My dad always thought Nance would be the man, but I saw your talent and rooted for you all the way. I’m also a Broncos fan so it’s doublely cool to get to root for you on Sunday’s too. Take care of that knee and get back in there next season. You make ASU proud.

I hope ASU pulls thru for you. Man, all you do is play video games?? Jk. But still, you must get pretty bored. Maybe you should write us more often. What are your plans for the offseason? I know there is still a month of football left for the regular season. Are you planning on staying in Denver most of the time to rehab? I’m excited for this week vs the Chiefs!! :) My best friend is taking her 3 year old son to the game for his birthday…so tell the guys to play hard out there for the little guy. lol. Talk to you next week!!

    Ryan,

Please don’t be angry with me but I’ve got to side with Spencer Larsen on this one. This is because I went on my LDS mission (yes I’m Mormon like Spencer) down to Tucson. In fact as I’m typing this I’m wearing my UofA basketball shorts, so I’ve got to say BEAR DOWN ARIZONA, BEAR DOWN RED & BLUE. With that said, James Harden is excellent, and he dominated the other big college in my mission, Texas-El Paso (yes, I was in El Paso too, I got around down there) by nailing like 16 of 21 shots on the night. The Sun Devils should be great come March Madness time. Good luck with rehab and we’ll see you in training camp next year!
