That Winning Feeling

December 28th, 2010 - 10:05am by mike_riceOther posts by

I don’t care how it happened, against whom it happened or any of the circumstances around the fact that it happened.

I am simply glad the Broncos experienced that winning feeling again.

After five straight losses and nine losses in the ten previous games, the Broncos just needed to win a game. And they did. Let me take a moment to exhale.

Ahhhhh. Nice. It’s good to remember what a Broncos’ win feels like. I had nearly forgotten what a Broncos win felt like, even if at least some of the players had not.

Making a Stand

December 27th, 2010 - 2:32pm by Eric DetweilerOther posts by

In their last two fourth quarters coming into Sunday’s game against Houston, the Broncos had been outscored 40-13. Denver reversed that trend in a 24-23 win by coming up with the contest’s final 14 points to complete the comeback.

A day later, Interim Head Coach Eric Studesville pointed to his defense’s ability to get off the field with key third-down stops as one of the big factors in helping to complete the come-from-behind win.

Houston went just 1-for-8 on third-down conversion attempts in the game with quarterback Matt Schaub tossing an incompletion on the Texans’ only fourth-quarter attempt. That play forced the punt that led to Tim Tebow’s go-ahead touchdown run.

Another Start, More Records

December 27th, 2010 - 10:51am by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

It has been awhile since Broncos Country has this much electricity running through it based on the play and potential of one single player.

But the power plant fueling Broncos fandom is on overload today due to the play, potential, charisma and electricity of quarterback Tim Tebow (journalistically, it is appropriate to state his position before his name in a story’s first reference, but I do not think there is a fan in America who does not know Tebow is a quarterback).

I shall leave it to others to argue and debate the growth and development which his potential will reach; as I said last week, no one can predict the future.

Broncos vs. Texans: Second Half Blog

December 26th, 2010 - 3:31pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

KICKOFF: After deferring the coin toss, the Broncos will receive to start the second half.

Q3 15:00: Perrish Cox takes a knee in the end zone for a touchback to start the half. Tim Tebow and the offense take over at their own 20-yard line. On first down, Tebow pitches to Lance Ball, who pushes a defender the final 5 yards of his 15-yard gain. Texans defensive tackle Shaun Cody is down after the play, but he walks to the sideline under his own power.

Q3 14:46: On the ensuing first down, Tebow fakes a handoff then fires deep down the middle of the field to a streaking Jabar Gaffney, who runs under the pass and hauls it in at the 15-yard line. On the next play, Tebow hands off to Correll Buckhalter, who finds a hole in the middle of the line and picks up 9 yards. On second-and-1, Denver calls its first timeout of the half.

Q3 12:58: Buckhalter takes a carry on the next play and bursts forward for the final 6 yards into the end zone. Steven Hauschka’s extra point is up and in, and the Broncos are on the board.

Broncos vs. Texans: First Half Blog

PLAYER INTRODUCTIONS: The offensive starters are being introduced, as they sprint through the tunnel one-by-one. Tim Tebow is the last player onto the field, and he runs to greet his teammates — Brian Dawkins is there first for an embrace — to a loud ovation.

COIN TOSS: The captains are at midfield for the coin toss — including Rod Smith. The Texans call heads — and it’s tails. The Broncos win the toss and defer to the second half. Denver will kick to Houston to start the game.

Q1 15:00: Steven Hauschka is in to kick off, with Steve Slaton deep to receive for the Texans. Slaton fields it a yard deep in the end zone and is tackled by Eric Decker at the 20-yard line. The starting defense is on the field, with Justin Bannan, Jamal Williams and Kevin Vickerson on the line. The linebackers are Robert Ayers and Mario Haggan on the outside with D.J. Williams and Wesley Woodyard lined up inside. In the secondary it’s Champ Bailey, Andre’ Goodman, Renaldo Hill and Brian Dawkins, back after missing the past three games with a knee injury.

Q1 14:48: Houston’s first play from scrimmage is a handoff to Arian Foster, who is dropped by D.J. Williams after a gain of a yard. On second down it’s Foster again, and Vickerson and Bailey are there to stop him for a loss of a yard. Now third-and-10, Matt Schaub lines up in the shotgun. He takes the snap, drops back and fires to Owen Daniels, who is stopped short of the first down. There’s a flag on the play, however — illegal formation on the Texans. The penalty is declined and the Texans have a fourth down. Matt Turk is in to punt to Eddie Royal, who waits at his own 29. He calls for a fair catch at the 40, where the offense will take over.

Broncos vs. Texans: Pregame Blog

December 26th, 2010 - 12:44pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

After three consecutive road games, the Broncos are finally back in the friendly confines of INVESCO Field at Mile High.

Hope everyone had a merry Christmas yesterday and spent time with family and friends. Now we get a full slate of NFL games to unwind from the holidays, including this afternoon’s Broncos-Texans tilt.

Tim Tebow is set to take his second start as a pro, and he’s already on the field throwing passes to Britt Davis.

Just got Houston’s inactives: Matt Leinart is listed as the third quarterback. CB Brice McCain, DT DeMario Pressley, G Shelley Smith, DE Jarvis Green, WR Andre Johnson, TE Anthony Hill and TE Garrett Graham will not play this afternoon. Jacoby Jones will start in Johnson’s place at receiver.

For the Broncos, Kyle Orton is the third quarterback. Laurence Maroney, Chevis Jackson, Darcel McBath, Stanley Daniels, Eric Olsen, Demaryius Thomas and Jeff Byers will not suit up.

12:45 p.m. MST: Britton Colquitt is out on the field in a full blue uniform alongside kicker Steven Hauschka. The rest of the players have made their way back through the tunnel. It’s a fairly warm and sunny day for Dec. 26 — it’s 52 degrees, according to Weather.com.

A New Swing on Things

December 26th, 2010 - 10:42am by cheerleadersOther posts by

The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders have been perfecting a new style of dance to incorporate into game day routines–swing!

For the past three weeks, each cheerleader has been working with a partner to learn two complex routines. In addition to adding a completely new dimension of grueling exercise to our practices, adding the dance partners has also added some zest to our regular schedules.

Clady Receives Ed Block Courage Award

December 24th, 2010 - 10:52am by Gabe HiattOther posts by

Ryan Clady stands six-and-a-half feet tall, weighs more than 320 pounds, and has an even bigger heart.

On Friday, Interim Head Coach Eric Studesville announced Clady as the recipient of this year’s Ed Block Courage Award for the Denver Broncos. All 32 NFL franchises recognize one player who exemplifies a commitment to sportsmanship and courage for the award selected by his teammates.

“It’s definitely an honor to get this award,” Clady said. “I worked hard during the offseason to get where I am now and I’m definitely blessed to be in the position I am.”

‘A Tremendous Relief’

December 23rd, 2010 - 3:44pm by Eric DetweilerOther posts by

A pair of knee injuries have forced Brian Dawkins to miss a total of five games in his 15th NFL season.

That meant five Sundays of watching as the Broncos took the field without him. Adding to that frustration, his team lost all five of those games.

Dawkins, who missed all three games on the team’s recently completed road trip, hopes to return to the field on Sunday against Houston at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The veteran safety wants to help his team complete a strong finish to an otherwise disappointing season.

“Sitting back and watching my guys out there going through what they’re going through and not being in it with them, it is a tough, tough pill to swallow,” Dawkins said. “So, being out there with them again is a relief for me — a tremendous relief.”

Mile High Momentum

December 22nd, 2010 - 3:54pm by Gabe HiattOther posts by

For the past three weeks, the Broncos have tread a rocky road full of pot holes. Consecutive business trips to Kansas City, Arizona and Oakland all added losses to the team’s record.

But they have the luxury of spending the holidays at home. The team finishes their schedule with a two-game home stand, including a matchup with the Houston Texans on the day after Christmas.

Mario Haggan hopes to find a little Mile High magic in front of the home crowd.

“It would be great to come home in front of our fans right after the holidays and have some holiday cheer on Sunday and go out and play a great game,” Haggan said.
