A.M. Blog: Day 4

July 28th, 2008 - 10:48am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by Gray Caldwell

More action from Dove Valley on Monday. The team may have been feeling the heat early, but as practice wore on the intensity heated up as well, and several big plays were made by both the offense and defense. It seemed to be the defense that shined the brightest on day four, however. Now for some quick hits.

ATTENDANCE REPORT: Montrae Holland did not take part in practice after participating in the jog-through yesterday afternoon…Peyton Hillis and Chad Mustard were on the out of pads list with a left hamstring and right hamstring, respectively…Boss Bailey, D.J. Williams and Selvin Young each came to practice about an hour after it started. Head Coach Mike Shanahan said he knew about the situation and said the players were excused. Williams explained that it was because of the NFL drug policy. “They didn’t allow us to come out until we gave them a sample … I weigh 7 pounds heavier than I usually do, I drank 10 to 12 waters.”

P.M. Blog: Day 2

July 26th, 2008 - 4:08pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by Gray Caldwell

Saturday afternoon’s practice was solely for special teams, so as a chunk of the team ran drills on the field, the rest of the players hit the weight room a little early. Here are a few quick hits from the session:

ATTENDANCE REPORT: Rookie Spencer Larsen, who would most likely have taken part in this afternoon’s special teams practice, was absent attending to a family emergency. Chad Mustard, out of pads for both of the first days of training camp, jogged on the opposite field during practice. Newly-signed Taylor Jacobs took part in his first practice of training camp.

POSTURING FOR POSITION: The players fielding punts were Anthony Alridge, Glenn Martinez, Marquay McDaniel and Eddie Royal. Rookie Bret Kern and second-year vet Sam Palescu continued to share the punting duties, though many of the “punts” were made by a JUGS machine — essentially wheels spinning really quickly that launch footballs.

P.M. Blog: Day One

July 25th, 2008 - 6:37pm by Jake GrilleyOther posts by Jake Grilley

The Broncos closed out day one of training camp with an afternoon jog through practice. Head Coach Mike Shanahan has decided against holding two-a-day practices and risking injury to his 80-man roster. Instead the team’s afternoon practices will be mostly geared toward seeing plays and getting mental reps rather than full speed football drills.

Some afternoon practices during camp will be these types of jog throughs and others exclusively scheduled for special teams.

The wind picked up and a few raindrops could be felt outside at the team’s practice facility as afternoon practice got underway. With a few small storm clouds in the distance the Broncos broke into offense and defense with each grouping on seperate fields.

Training Camp Is Here!

July 25th, 2008 - 9:03am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by Gray Caldwell

Finally, the day all of Broncos Country has been waiting for most likely since Draft Day is here.

Training Camp is upon us. Just a quick reminder — the first practice today begins at 11:15 a.m. followed by an afternoon practice beginning at 4:05 p.m.

Then on Saturday the schedule goes to what it will normally be for the rest of camp — morning practice at 8:30 a.m., afternoon at 3:40 p.m. since it is a special teams practice. Some days afternoon practice will begin at 3:50 p.m., in which case it is a 40-minute jog-through for the team to get accustomed to plays and their roles.

Just check DenverBroncos.com every day for the schedule, so you can plan ahead. We also have a training camp page here.

Gates open an hour early, so get here early because parking is first-come, first-serve.

The 2008 season is so close we can taste it.
