A BIG MONTH IN THE COMMUNITY

June 12th, 2008 - 10:30am by cindy_gallowayOther posts by cindy_galloway

Hello Broncos Country,

Our apologies for not updating our blog recently.  We do have some exciting things to share!  The month of May was highlighted by the Grand Opening of the Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center, which as you all know, has been in the works for over a year.  The kids are absolutely in love with their new center, and it is wonderful to see it going to such good use so quickly.  A special thank you to the hard working staff we collaborate with at the Broncos Boys & Girls Club to make all these new visions reality:  Rich Barrows and Company (Guy, Meca, Dave, Amber, Karly, Julio . . .all of you are the best!!)

This past Monday was highlighted by the annual Mike Shanahan Golf Classic in partnership with the Phil Long Community Fund.  Many players hit the links with community members in the spirit of charity.  The tournament proceeds alternate between Denver and Colorado Springs (where Phil Long is headquartered) projects and this year’s proceeds will go to support a Phil Long designated project:  John Venezia Park.

Special thanks to  Kelly Woodward in our Community Development office who spearheaded the entire Shanahan Golf Classic.  Kudos!!

Have a great weekend in Broncos Country!!

Welcome to the Family

When you work in professional sports for a number of years you cannot help but develop a second family, besides the one at home which means so much to all of us, and is in fact the basis of our entire lives.

But that second family is in a building where you spend a huge percentage of your time, working with a unified group of individuals passionate about a singular goal.

Every team can’t win every year, but that’s the goal for every team, and that is the bond that creates the second family.

Over the years in the Denver Broncos family I have been fortunate to be a part of seasons that have been mostly good, and often great.

And there have been great people as part of the extended Broncos family; I can remember when the children of Mike and Peggy Shanahan were very young, and my own son and daughter working here as summer ball boy (son) and PR office typist (daughter).

Round up the Troops!

So, we need to rectify this.  CBS Sportsline is running one of those voter polls on mascots.  They have Miles pitted against “Raiders Fans”.  And the Raiders Fans are winning.  So go here and make things right.  Now, I know I shouldn’t care about these things, because like most polls, they are made by people that aren’t properly informed.  It’s basically a big team popularity contest.  The fact that Steely McBeam is beating Pat Patriot should tell that story.  But, I don’t want to be embarrassed either.  Some people out there might think that “Raider Fans” are better at mascot-ting than me, and we all know that’s not true.  So, in true election year fashion…get out the vote people!

Off-Season Moves

With Henry gone, we have:

Selvin Young
Michael Pittman
Ryan Torian
Andre Hall
Anthony Aldridge

Plenty of depth and ability in that crew. I like the group. What do you guys think? Thumbs up or thumbs down. I agree with Mike. Sometimes you have to cut your losses. We have the depth, and if we can keep healthy this year, we should make some progress on last season’s record.
